CalypsoCuthbertson · 03/05/2025 18:43

Have you tried a black mould remover? Cilit Bang type thing.

BrendaSmall · 03/05/2025 18:43

Mould and mildrew remover
spray it and get some toilet paper and put on top of it quite thickly and then spray again till paper is very wet
lea it for a few hours, I usually leave overnight after we’ve had our shower and then scrub it in the morning ( after removing paper!)
unfortunately it may not come off the silicone but it will the grout

Toothbrush n bleach

This for the grout works great.

For the sealant, just remove it and replace, costs a couple £ and takes 10 minutes

This - take the mastic out and redo it

Listerine mouthwash.

NinaNina83 · 03/05/2025 18:44

Bleach will do the work 👍

JadeSeahorse · 03/05/2025 18:48

HG mould remover!

Best thing I have ever found.

MrsPlantagenet · 03/05/2025 18:50

You need Bactdet and Halophen. This removes the mould and crucially, the spores.

tedibear · 03/05/2025 18:59

I regularly use a mould remove spray but it doesn’t get it off silicone. Magic mould from must have ideas works on the silicone. It’s quite expensive but gets it off without having to replace it.

Fordian · 03/05/2025 19:00

I’d say ‘you can’t’. If it’s silicone, as it appears, the best way is removal and replace. It’s much easier than you think. Use a scalpel, being careful not to damage the bath (lay the blade parallel to it). Once you’ve loosened a bit, like an elastic band, you can often peel it off in rubbery strips. Be thorough, wipe the area with white spirit, allow to dry, reseal with new silicone. Put it on like a thin line of toothpaste, then run a clean fingertip along the strip to ‘contour’ and push it in to make the seal. Wipe up excess on the bath and tiles, as you go. Be aware dry silicone won’t stick to wet silicon, so you may have to do the entire length and width of the bath, but honestly, especially with ‘modern’ silicones which you appear to have (grey ‘brick’ tiles 😉), it won’t be difficult.

Allow the new silicone 24/48 hours to dry, then, just like new.

Honestly, once mold has embedded its tendrils into silicon, no amount of chemical will shift it. It’ll cost you £15 in material, and 2 hours of your time.

Have you tried HG mould remover? The stuff is like magic!

Zippedydodah · 03/05/2025 19:13

The Dettol Mould and Mildew Remover stuff is simply magical! Contains bleach and works quickly.

I second this after trying every other method known.

Brilliant stuff

FiveBarGate · 03/05/2025 19:17

Mould and mildew remover.

Spray and leave overnight, preferably with the window open.

jessycake · 03/05/2025 19:33

I would just replace the sealant

strawlight · 03/05/2025 19:41

Another vote for HG mould spray, I don’t know why it’s so much better than anything else but it really is magic stuff!

SirChenjins · 03/05/2025 19:45

HG Mould Remover spray - best stuff ever,

mathanxiety · 03/05/2025 19:51

Cut an old white t-shirt into long strips about 2 inches wide. Soak the strips in neat bleach and squeeze out a bit. Lay the strips bunched into ropes against the caulking. Push firmly into place. Leave overnight. You will see a reduction in the mould in the morning. Wear rubber gloves for this.

For the grouting, dip an old toothbrush in a little dish of bleach and scrub. Rubber gloves are essential again.

Your best bet for the caulking is to hack it off and reseal, though. Even if the bleach works well, you'll be left with gray caulking.

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 03/05/2025 19:57

Echoing other posts. For the grout HG Mould Remover is fantastic. For the rubbery sealant type stuff round the edges once that goes black you can’t remove the mould, it’s kind of impregnated in it. So yes, remove and redo. You can buy little blade tools for getting a neat line with it if you haven’t done it before.

Hackman · 03/05/2025 20:08

Don't waste money on products... Cover all mould areas in bleach straight from the bottle, cover with strips of toilet roll and leave for at least 12 hours... Bleach will kill mould but it needs time.

mentalblank · 03/05/2025 20:10

Another vote for HG Mould Remover - life-changing... I've found that it can somehow remove mould in/under sealant too if you squirt enough on.

Laneyrain · 03/05/2025 20:20

Thanks everyone! Ill def try the HG mould remover first and if it doesn't work ill reseal. Is the best way to prevent this happening to the new sealant using HG mould remover regularly? Or should I be doing something after bath/shower each time?

Listerine was invented as a floor cleaner, USA revamped it as a mouthwash. Contains Ethanol and does remove mould. I was dubious but brushed some on before I went to bed. In the morning the mould was gone and hasn't returned. Haven't confessed to DH that I used some of his Listerine. But it's put me off mouthwash somewhat 😁
