This is bollocks. Totally inaccurate

Happy to review your sources for that. I'm looking it up again but finding similar to the previous graph.

Oatley Barista, Mighty Barista Oat or Cailifa Barista Oat - I only use it for coffee

My adult daughter is lactose intolerant and I get Waitrose own almond milk for her when she’s home because that’s her favourite.

Only on Mumsnet would you expect to find someone being aggressive about fucking milk Grin

Oat milk (not fussy about brands!)

I don’t mind soya milk but have been advised by GP to avoid it if possible as I’m BF a baby with CMPA and not sure if he’s reacting to soya as well as dairy, so have cut both out of my diet.

Never fancied a bar of Cadbury’s so much in my life!

Dorosomethingbeautiful · 01/05/2025 09:31

I use Bonsoy and it is really good. I buy it from Amazon

DuckieDodgyHedgyPiggy · 01/05/2025 09:37

It's hard to find ones without oils added. It's not that oil if cold pressed is a problem, but if it's heat-treated, as it is for these milks, then that's really bad for you. So I'm currently buying Oatly, but ironically it's the long-life version, which is just oats, salt and water, rather than the fridge one which has oils added. The Plenish one is the only other one I can find without oils but it separates in coffee.

MananaPenelope · 02/05/2025 06:37

I quite like them with oils. They’re slightly creamy, helps foaming and I read somewhere that it aids absorption of the added vitamins/minerals.

TranceNation · 02/05/2025 06:58

Swapped over to almond milk at the start of the year. It's noticeable how much longer almond milk lasts re expiry date compared to dairy milk, which is great for me as I don't really drink a lot of milk as a non tea or coffee drinker. I mainly only use it for smoothies and almond milk seems to work well in that regard for me.

MissMarplesNiece · 02/05/2025 07:14

Anyone here who likes oat milk ever tried making their own?

MananaPenelope · 02/05/2025 07:51

I think someone posted upthread @MissMarplesNiece, or maybe on another recent thread.

Not for me, I am time poor, I celebrate the acheivement of cooking something simple from scratch and eating fresh vegetables every day for dinner - that's as far as my ambition stretches in the food department 😂.

GreenFressia · 02/05/2025 07:55

Unsweetened Almond. Plenish is the most natural.

Not averse to Hemp, Oat or occasionally coconut. Coconut tends to have added vitamins.

MoneyBall1 · 02/05/2025 07:56

We use unsweetened organic soya milk - it’s v nice in tea. Not so nice in coffee so either I have it black or if I’m out, I’ll have oat milk

all these drinks are upf’s to stabilise them. Oat “milk” can be made a home though.

the chart given for emissions is misleading, it’s based on indoor reared American cows not the European style of farming nor the breeds we use. Emissions for a typical British dairy farm are far lower, similar to many of these substitutes, except oat which is very low if made in the U.K. from British oats. I’ve not noticed skin in this game as i personally don’t like any of them, black coffee and hate cereal!

User9088 · 02/05/2025 07:59

I use oatly barista - with dairy and soya allergic children this is good as it is well fortified. I know some people have mentioned fewer ingredients and UPFs but if you are using alternative milk for children you do need to think about fortified options or be very aware of other sources of calcium/iodine in their diet

MananaPenelope · 02/05/2025 08:08

@User9088 I remember Oatily (and Oatily Chocolate) first becoming widely available here when my severly allergic to dairy DC were small. What a godsend and properly fortified/balanced so one less thing to worry about.

Couldnotthinkofausername · 02/05/2025 08:13

We use supermarket brand almond milk. Oat milk tastes good and creamy because it's got oil in it especially the barista kind. We’re thinking of switching to soya for a bit of extra protein. My grandson is allergic to dairy and I have an intolerance but I switched to eating plant based for health reasons.
