New rainbow/ brownies and guide badges

I just saw a lovely story on BBC breakfast about lots of new badges that are coming out this year. They were talking about the benefits of being part of the organisation. I said to my son, they should have something above Rangers for middle aged women and we have our own badges. I asked him what they would be 'navigating your mid-life crisis/ menopause badge he said. I love the idea of having that badge to sew on my coat. Got me thinking what other badges we should have??

Not sure about this op. I think of the young ones when I think of anyone over the age of 14 with badges on. A bit like stickers for young children.

Needmorelego · 30/04/2025 09:16

@Dogstar78 there are some badges you can get that are sort of aimed at adults.
Let me see if I can find the details.....

Needmorelego · 30/04/2025 09:19

@Dogstar78 Rebel Badges was what I was thinking of.

You can join the Trefoil Guild - the Guiding section for over 18s. They do badges - no quite the same way that the younger sections do, but still!

I am a GG leader and have a camping blanket with badges on. I love badges and I’m 40! Grin Was going to mention Rebel Badges too. Or join GG as a volunteer - whenever we do a badge in the unit I order one for myself too!

DiscoBeat · 30/04/2025 09:27

Gin badge. But you have to try 25.

LostMySocks · 30/04/2025 09:31

Younger women aged 16 up to 25 I think (maybe 30) can work towards the Queen's Guide Award.

The Trefoil Guild might be what you are looking for

nyancatdays · 30/04/2025 09:32

Email manager badge

Sourdough starter badge

Organising kids’ birthday parties badge (like the old Brownie Hostess badge but for proficiency in wrangling 20 kids at a party tea in the local community hall)

School run badge

Holiday packing badge

EBay/Vinted seller badge

Sleep hygiene badge

(Also yes to Menopause badge)

Oceanically · 30/04/2025 09:33

I know this is light-hearted, OP, but there have been a few posts recently where people seemed very set on being externally validated for normal life things/stages.

Also I suppose the 'navigating menopause' badge makes me wonder what failing the badge would involve? Presumably it needs to be possible to fail a Guide badge, otherwise actually getting one by successfully fulfilling whatever the requirements are would be meaningless -- so how would you 'fail' at menopause?

TroysMammy · 30/04/2025 09:37

I'd rather have the t-shirt than a badge.

My niece is in her 20s and still involved with the Guides. Her camping blanket is covered in badges.
Her Dad bought some spoof (some rude) ones and sewed them on. It took her ages to notice 😂

TeenToTwenties · 30/04/2025 10:32

Navigating GCSEs
Dealing with EHCPs (special gold badge as not everyone can get this)
Caring for Elderly parents
Teaching Driving
Going grey gracefully

Dogstar78 · 30/04/2025 16:48

I love those of you that leaned into this post. It is totally light hearted. A nice little meeting in a community hall, with a bit of running about, crafts, chatting and a cup of tea- lovely (extension meeting in the pub for those that fancy not quite going home just yet).

I might not sew my badges on. I might keep them in a little draw and look at them when I feel a bit rubbish.

Some badges maybe you get as default- like those long service ones. No 'pass' criteria- just showing up is enough or self-evaulated (we are grown ups).

@needmorelego that made me giggle
@nyancatdays and @teentotwenties You get the thinking up great badges badge.

It’s called the WI. Brownies for adults. No badges though.

nyancatdays · 30/04/2025 18:50

There’s also Pet Badge — though instead of writing a paragraph and drawing a picture of my guinea pig a la 1987, you’re required to pass at least four of the following tasks:

Pet catching: put cat in carrier

The Vet Visit, followed by a successful call to the pet insurer to get them to pay out for the expensive antibiotics

Vomit cleaning

Fox Poo removal
Or
Removal of mouse guts

Followed by extra credit for:
All nighter with poorly pet wrapped up in towel, plus £150 for emergency Sunday vet visit at which pet is perfectly sprightly

Could I get the pet badge for defrosting & feeding dead rats to a snake that isn't mine?

Don’t forget the coveted “single handed administration of tablets” badge, it’s the red one with a jagged open wound.

TheNightingalesStarling · 30/04/2025 18:57

I sometimes things there should be a badge for the parents for sewing the badges onto the kids uniform, especially onto little sleeves for the youngest children.

ClaudiaDark · 30/04/2025 19:00

Definitely an LTB badge (Left The Bastard) 😂

Yes! In two levels: Pill Administration (basic, where you have to demonstrate your “crush into meat paste” technique), and an Advanced award for particularly naughty pets, where you have to learn to use a pill gun and show your skill at painstakingly inserting steroid tablets into individual cat biscuits 😆

RuthW · 30/04/2025 20:38

We always say our WI group is Brownies for adults. Maybe we need to start badges.

InflagranteDelicto · 30/04/2025 20:56

As a division, we once had a weekend training & social event and we all did the Guide mixology badge. The campfire afterwards probably wasn't the safest idea but was fun🤣

Maybe not 'quite' the Guide badge .... ;-)
