Older boys hurt my children .

Myboyz910 · 29/04/2025 18:43

My children are in year 4 and 5 . One has judt turned 10 the other coming up 9. They are small for their age in height and frame.

So we were in the park. I was sitting at the eating area and the boys went off to play. They were not far but I couldn't see them because of the angle. A short while after they came back to me sobbing. Telling me older boys from the local secondary school. Had been slamming them on the floor. Pulling them around hitting them and stopping the leaving the play area . As ds was telling me 2 boys from the same school came up to me and Comfirned to me what my 2 were saying . They gave me the boys names and form group.

I have phoned the school. And I'm waiting for a call back. But im really thinking they probably won't do anything. The school is in a rough area and i just feel nothing will be done.

I know a mum who's child gos to the school she knows the boys and she said they are trouble makers.

My boys don't have any marks on them. But they are really shaken up and keep crying. Poor ds keeps saying his legs are shakey when he walks. I think that's due to the upset.

I think this is a great email from @HiddenInCubeOfCheese but I would add in the detail of what you told the school verbally and how the head responded e.g.

Dear [name of headteacher]

Thank you for your time on our earlier call where I told you that my two children age 10 and 8 were assaulted in [name of the park] yesterday afternoon at [time] by two boys who attend your school. I also told you that children that attend your school who witnessed the assault reported to me that the boys who carried out the assault are called [names]. I also gave you a description of all the boys involved in the incident. You said that you did not recognise these names and that you would not be able to follow up on the incident.

Unfortunately, I do not find your answers satisfactory. I maintain those boys can indeed be identified and this is indeed a serious matter. What they did meets the threshold for assault and battery and the perpetrators are well above the age of criminal responsibility. I do not believe you have taken proportionate action in this case.

I do advise that I have a crime reference number for the incident and it should be treated as such by the school.

If you consider our telephone call the end of the matter, please let me know, at your earliest opportunity: your formal complaints policy and procedure; contact details for your governors; and, any relevant officer at OFSTED I should contact.

Kind regards,
[name]

Thank you . I litterly copied and past what @HiddenInCubeOfCheese said. I didn't describe them. Only their names. I'm glad I have done it in writing now though.

I feel more angry than yesterday because even a head is trying to dismiss what happend even though the children are much smaller /younger than them.

Do not mention Ofsted in your email. All Ofsted would say is follow the school complaints procedures and would redirect you back to the school. The school know that so mentioning just seems like you're ill informed if that makes sense. Ask them for their complaints policy. Use Chat gtp to refine your email if needed. Ask your child's school if they can also contact the senior school as they are likely to know each other.

Could It cause any issues if I copy and made the reply I just got? There's no names or anything.

What’s a children’s panel ?

Maybe it’s a a Scottish thing but when a child is involved in criminal acts their case can be sent to a children’s panel who can make legal decisions. It’s really more about correcting behaviour/ helping than punishment. Early intervention heads off later criminality type stuff.

Can recommend ongoing support though too and spaces in something like a mentoring programme where an adult spends time volunteering with that child a few hours a week. My friend did this; the young lady was a prolific shoplifter. The idea being that giving someone a positive role models who can take them out and encourage good decision making. Obviously won’t work for everyone but every child steered off a path to prison will save hundreds of thousands of public money in the long term.

I wouldn't have thought so, it's not confidential info.

Myboyz910 · 30/04/2025 16:45

This is the reply I got :

Many thanks for your email and raising your concerns.

As I mentioned on the phone; we take all incidents of poor behaviour and community concerns very seriously and we will investigate this further; we have already begun this. As discussed, we need to check the names given are accurate to ensure we identify the right students.

Once we have investigated we will decide next steps. I may not be able to inform you of our actions, but if needed we will take further action and involve parents.

You have also contacted the Police, who may also be in touch with us and again inform of us of their actions. We will liaise with the Police and offer assistance.

Thank you again for your time and please be in touch if you need further clarification on our next steps.

I have now managed to get the name of the child who gave me the names of the other children. I also found out the boys are a simlar size to my 2 boys. Thry must be stronger though by the fact that picked them up.

I do wish I had said on my email about her saying there's Not an S at the school and saying another child telling me the name of the children is not good enough.

Apprently one of the children were taken out of the class and spoken to. And he walked back in smirking. Obviously I don't really know if it was about the situation.

You can still get that bit in there that she initially said she didn’t think those names were pupils.

jist hit reply and say something like:

”[name]

Thank you for your reply. I’m glad that you are pursuing identification given you initially said you said XYZ names were not known to you as pupils at your school. However, it seems as if you have reneged and now indeed do think that a fellow pupil at your school identifying the offenders to me IS good enough.

Please can you update me if and when you sanction these offenders.

Kind regards,

MushMonster · 30/04/2025 17:08

The school will do something, particularly if it is not the first time.
Report it to the police.
I hope they are ok OP.

HiddenInCubeOfCheese · 30/04/2025 17:08

OP, I know you said earlier you were a little apprehensive of your spelling and grammar and things, but…honestly, if that’s a copy and paste from the head, she can’t punctuate for shit.

Besides, even if you were illiterate, right is right and justice is justice. This isn’t a court based on sophistry and purple prose. Momma Bear comin’ out!

Sidebeforeself · 30/04/2025 17:11

I dont think thats a good response @HiddenInCubeOfCheese . It’s too “official speak”. I think now you need to be blunt OP.Something along the lines of “thanks for getting back to me. Im still not happy with your response and I need to know what steps you will take next to ensure the boys who attacked my children will be dealt with. This is an important safeguarding issue not just for my children but for others too.

HiddenInCubeOfCheese · 30/04/2025 17:13

@Sidebeforeself - I just don’t think OP can demand anything. Her kids aren’t at this school. She’s got no recourse other than that the police can provide.

Sidebeforeself · 30/04/2025 17:16

She’s not demanding.Just making the point that she isn’t being fobbed off.

HiddenInCubeOfCheese · 30/04/2025 17:17

There’s snag in that the OP knows their names so the head can’t actually give her that much info. It’d be a major ethical (at least) breach by the head

Sidebeforeself · 30/04/2025 17:21

It doesn’t have to be detailed info . But more than “we may do xyz” as in the first response.

Sidebeforeself · 30/04/2025 17:22

Anyway, I’ll bow out now. Good luck OP and I hope your boys are OK.

SheridansPortSalut · 30/04/2025 17:24

If someone did that to you you'd call the police. This is no different.

RedHelenB · 30/04/2025 17:33

Would they recognise the older children though? Did you go to the playground to see what they looked like?

Yeah genuinely I'm not bothered about my spelling grammar. It is what it is 🤣. And I do emails dd school abd other places. But I was just thinking as its a complaint I'm making they might see how i write then think I'm a Bit dumb and take advantage

I'm wondering if I should just tell the police what the head said verbally.

Myboyz910 · 01/05/2025 21:14

Small update: police came and spoke to both ds . Younger ds done most of the talking. The police officer said because of their age they can't do a statement. So they may need taken to a comfy type room. She mentioned talking to CID that seems very odd. I'm gonna ask adult ds about that part when she spoke to the boys she recorded it. Can't see why she can't just use that.

She said she going to contact the school police officer

Misstabithabean · 02/05/2025 11:49

Sounds like they are taking it seriously, which is the important thing.

Myboyz910 · 02/05/2025 13:26

The school contacted me saying they have spoken to several students and parents. And said a member of staff will be at the park
