Why do mumsnetters inform of “name change”

I’ve seen so many threads where the OP says they've changed their username to avoid being "outed."
Ironically, I worked out who one of them was because she mentioned it — if she hadn’t said anything, I would have just assumed she was still using her old username.
What’s the reason in announcing to everyone that you've changed it? Genuine question by the way.

I dont take issue with name changing. I don’t say that I have named changed in my post- that is what I was curious about, why so many inform others they have done so at the start of their message.

This is the reason I assumed people did it.

Probably so some can’t look through their old posts and cross reference.

There's this reason too. I did this for something that could have been identifiable.

So people don't think you're a troll, a random pervert, or a journalist. But also so it can't be linked to all your other posts which might lead to people getting so much info they could identify who you are if they know you.

I also need to read up on penis beaker, not sure how I missed that either …
