Please can anyone help me fix this damn dishwasher!

Having a great day so obviously something had to go wrong and it's the damn dishwasher.

I went to put it on after dinner and it had a lot of water in the bottom which from googling has activated the flood switch (the eco setting is flashing when I switch it on, it's beeping at me and making a grinding noise).

I've mopped up all the water and cleaned all the filters and it's still making the noise and beeping.

So please before I have to call someone to dissect the damn thing which I can't really can't afford can anyone please suggest something I could do to try and fix the fucking thing.

When something similar happened to me it ended up being a block in one of the outlet pipes that had been incorrectly installed meaning food etc would gather and eventually block the water outlet. Could you take a picture of the pipework under your sink and highlight the pipe where the water leaves the dishwasher? Also is your sink draining ok?

I also put your post into copilot and it gave me this -

That sounds incredibly frustrating—appliances always seem to pick the worst possible moment to act up! Based on what you've described, the flood switch has likely been triggered due to water pooling in the base of the dishwasher. Here are a few things you can try before calling in a professional:

  1. *Tilt the Dishwasher – Unplug the machine and carefully tilt it backwards at a 45-degree angle*. This can help drain any trapped water from the base and reset the flood switch.
  2. *Check for Leaks* – If the flood switch keeps activating, there might be a leak inside. You may need to remove the side panels to inspect for loose hoses or cracks.
  3. *Inspect the Drain Pump* – The grinding noise could indicate an issue with the drain pump. Check for blockages or debris that might be preventing it from working properly.
  4. *Reset the Dishwasher – Some models allow a reset by unplugging the machine for 10–15 minutes*, then plugging it back in and trying again on an](https://www.justanswer.co.uk/appliance/fjneb-reset-fault-eco-light-flashing-fast.html).

If tilting the dishwasher clears the issue but it happens again soon, there’s likely a persistent leak that needs fixing. Hopefully, it’s just a one-off situation! Let me know how it goes—fingers crossed you won’t need to call in reinforcements.

Sink is draining fine and we've never had a problem in all the years it's been installed. I'll try to take a picture but if it's the pipes I'm screwed because I can't actually get to them on account of it being integrated...

Check the pipe that drains the dirty water out - ours has done this a couple of times. Someone returning cleaning products back under the sink had knocked the pipe so it had turned down. It needs to go up higher than the sink drain bit or itll just drain back into the dishwasher, im not explaining it well but like a toilet u-bend. Easily fixed! If not that, it’s probably the dishwasher pump.

DamnTheDishwasher · 25/04/2025 20:30

That's very well explained and I'll go and see if I can move the pipe but again frustrating because it's integrated and although it looks nicer it's obviously going to make it harder because I can't look behind it.

Ours is integrated - it’s the bit where it joins in with the sink plumbing you need to check. If it’s lower than it should be, the water from the sink will run back into the dishwasher. It was obvious with ours as we’d been washing paint brushes and the coloured water was the giveaway! Good luck!

Marmaladelade · 25/04/2025 20:50

You need to unplug it and disconnect the waste pipe from under the sink and drain it - be careful and get a bucket at the ready - as soon as you disconnect it even if it’s up hirer it will still spew out

i had this exact problem

do the above and it will be fine

DamnTheDishwasher · 25/04/2025 20:52

Do you have a picture of which pipe I need to disconnect please. That sounded very doable!

OP posts:
Marmaladelade · 25/04/2025 20:58

No I’m in bed!

but it’s the other end of the waste pipe coming from dishwasher - so just follow it - not the cold feed which is the skinnier pipe - it will be the other bigger concertina type one - it takes the waste away and joins to under your kitchen sink usually..

maybe google it

Bibbitybobbity70 · 25/04/2025 20:59

Ours has done this several times now & repair guy showed me how to sort it (he was about to stop doing DWs due to parts cost)
We have a bosch. Anyway imagine it's similar for most.
Where the water is gathering is the filter, take this out, have a feel about in the drain bit & should be a wee bit that pops out. Then switch on & run the machine, may take a few goes - he said to start it, let cycle start then after a few mins press to reset, which starts draining bit. Basically if anything like orange pips, sweetcorn, broken glass gets stuck in the filter it will spit it back out - that's what is causing the grinding noise, check after each time & see if anything has popped out.
I've d9ne this a few times & now needed to call anyone out again.

Edited to add - I didn't need to get involved with disconnected ting waste pipes or anything messy

You can unscrew the front panel and see the piping under it.

DamnTheDishwasher · 25/04/2025 21:02

Thanks Bibbitybobbity70 I wish it was but it's unfortunately not the filter as that's all been cleaned out.

Marmaladelad oh yes definitely don't get out of bed! I'll go have a look to see if the pipes match your description and see if I can undo it.

Have a search on YouTube with the make of the dishwasher as there’s bound to be a video showing you exactly what to do.

beetr00 · 25/04/2025 21:06

this is a very useful site for all domestic appliances @DamnTheDishwasher

PaperHatter · 25/04/2025 21:07

Youtube is your friend here, an integrated dishwasher is technically free standing with a decor door attached. There are usually a couple of screws holding the dishwasher to the cabinet sides.

We have replaced an integrated dishwasher and youtube helped us know how to get the damn thing out. Put your manufacturer in ie Bosch, AEG etc and flooded and have a look. I prefer visual stuff so youtube is great for any sort of DIY or repairs. Also how to remove integrated dishwasher <insert manufacturer> and that will help too.

DamnTheDishwasher · 25/04/2025 21:30

So unfortunately that didn't work. Some water came out not lots though, does that mean it's blocked do we think?

Also further info when I switch it on the grinding and beeping stops after about a minute but I can't select any programs it's just flashing on eco. I hadn't noticed they stopped as earlier I turned the dishwasher off as soon as I heard the noise.

I appreciate all the advice so far. I've tried googling and checking YouTube but they were sadly not as helpful at solving the problem as they were at telling me what the beeping, grinding and flashing eco button meant.

CalypsoCuthbertson · 25/04/2025 21:43

What’s the brand/model?

DamnTheDishwasher · 25/04/2025 21:46

It's a beko. Not sure of which model but they all look much of a muchness from the many videos I've seen this evening. 😆

CalypsoCuthbertson · 25/04/2025 21:57

Have you tried Lurgs? He’s good

Marmaladelade · 26/04/2025 10:41

Mines a Beko too.

what happened?

we are waiting with baited breath 😂

DamnTheDishwasher · 26/04/2025 11:45

Nothing happened unfortunately. 😕 It's still not working this morning. I've brought some bicarb and vinegar in the vain hope there is a blockage in the concertina pipe as not much water came out yesterday when I unscrewed it and repositioned it. Otherwise despite all the very helpful suggestions from you lovely lot I suspect I'm going to have to phone for help.

When my old one went on the blink I found this on here:

Hold power & program button down simultaneously for a few seconds until all the lights start flashing, then switch on and off

It fixed it temporarily. But eventually I did end up buying a new one as it stopped cleaning properly, and then kept having water at the bottom, and then stopped working!

BeachRide · 26/04/2025 12:02

Mine had a wooden lolly stick stuck in the pump. Somehow bypassed the filters 🤷‍♂️

Theunamedcat · 26/04/2025 12:05

Mine did this rocking fixed it
