My neighbour noticed I was sitting in the garden throwing the ball for DDog and asked if I’d like a glass of rosé!
Cheers!
Anyone else got a fantastic neighbour?

I wish I had a neighbour like yours, that’s the dream.
Mine are awful both sides.

murasaki · 25/04/2025 16:16

I was hanging washing out at the same time as one of mine yesterday, and she gave me some cat treats for mine, unopened bag, as hers didn't like them. We're good with parcels for each other and get on well, frequently lend tools etc.

murasaki · 25/04/2025 16:19

I mistakenly got sent a dog chew bone thing in an online shop and gave it to her for her daughter's dog. We're not in each other's pockets by any means, but it works.

I was out in the field and came back to some freshly baked ginger cake and scones in the kitchen from my neighbour today

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 25/04/2025 16:21

Mine broke into my garden to poke cat food through our cat flap after DM, who was cat-sitting, lost her keys and couldn’t get back in to feed him while we were away.

CostaDelZamboni · 25/04/2025 16:21

My neighbour speaks little English but when she has a BBQ the plates and skewers passed over the fence cross all barriers

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 25/04/2025 16:22

Oh, and another one climbed in through an upstairs window after my DM, who was babysitting, locked herself out and toddler DD and baby DS, in.

Hmmm, I’m seeing a pattern here…

BarnacleBeasley · 25/04/2025 16:23

Mine used to let me go in their house when they were out and rummage in their spice drawer if I ran out of anything while I was cooking.

When my DS was 7 he decided he wanted to be a detective. He made a flyer for his detective agency offering to solve crimes and put it in next door's letterbox.

The next day we got a long, hand written letter with his first 'case' - a cat has brought a mouse into their house but which cat? They included detailed personality profiles of their 3 cats and their movements on the day. It was 2 sides of A4 long.

DS was beyond thrilled. He pored over all the details before writing them a letter back outlining who he believed the culprit was.

It was such a sweet thing for them to do.

Haha, yes, the neighbour is an asset, the mother a bit of a well meaning liability!

Wallabyone · 25/04/2025 16:25

Ah, these are lovely!

LadyContrary · 25/04/2025 16:25

Sorry posted on a wrong thread!

But OP, you do have the best neighbours ever!

That is adorable. What lovely people.

My next door neighbours were cooking on a barbeque one t-time when I pulled up from work. "Fancy a sausage sandwich?, they asked. I was hungry and it was delicious. Not only that, they cooked a sausage for my dog too. I bought them some booze as a thank you. Unfortunately, they've moved since.

I think “well meaning liability” is what I’ll have put on DM’s gravestone! 😆

I was chatting to a neighbour in the street, we’d ended up sitting on the grass verge by her house. Her husband brought us out a beer each. I don’t even like beer, but fuck me, did I enjoy that beer.

honestly, my entire street is lovely. We are very lucky and get on well and look out for each other.

DinoLil · 25/04/2025 16:29

My neighbour is 91 and amazing. We sit on our shared wall and chat for an hour or so most days. We make each other cocktails, share cakes, meals and takeaways. She's just awesome.

I love this!

Ours are so lovely, they were so kind when DH was ill. They are friendly and interested without being nosey. We went on holiday for a month and they texted us when we were away asking if we needed any shopping for when we got back. I asked for bread and milk but they presented us with a bag of treats, like biscuits and strawberries, as well as the milk and bread and refused to take any money. Their children are lovely and we always bring them something from holiday and remember their birthdays.
The other side keep themselves private but they are very nice people. Considering some stories you hear, we feel very lucky.

I’ve had some really fab neighbours over the years!
One set were a couple who I’d put in their late 40’s. Not long after we moved in, their young adult children flew the nest. I think the woman was really struggling with empty nest syndrome. We were already chatty and I considered her a friend, but after her kids left she really enjoyed hanging out with me and my very young kids in our garden. She was great with them! She helped me assemble the swing set I’d got, helped me make a veggie garden and taught me everything she knew about growing vegetables and taking care of plants. She really was the loveliest neighbour!
My most recent neighbour before we left the U.K. was also lovely! We were chatty when we bumped into each other and then when she had her baby, I knocked round with some flowers and cake.
When she returned the tin, there was cookies in it. And that just began a big back and forth of baked treats between our houses which went on until I moved out.

SlugsWon · 25/04/2025 16:34

I am surrounded by lovely neighbours (and am also quite lovely myself 😁)

Most recent examples - neighbor to the left (marine biologist) had a surplus of hand dived scallops he had collected from a nearby beach, and gave me some. Delicious. Neighbor to the right overhead me say we were out of oat milk, gave me some!

A fence panel came down in a storm, neighbor to the right just calmly fixed it and refused any help as we did it last time.

I put a post on our street's WhatsApp group asking to borrow some yeast at 9.30 pm, a knock at the door and a neighbour with yeast about 2 mins later!

We don't lock doors, have neighbours kids in and out playing with my DC, share garden surplus and generally get along really nicely without feeling obligated to be bezzie mates. It's great, I often forget how lucky I am!

MoistVonL · 25/04/2025 16:36

I love my neighbours. It's great, we'll have a glassd of wine together or let each other use the washing lines when one of us has a lot to gewt washed, and swap seedlings and garden produce.

I feed the cat for one neighbour and return the tennis and foot balls for another, and it's all just lovely. I share eggs from the hens, we get given lovely food at Eid - it's a very friendly community.

BarnacleBeasley · 25/04/2025 16:39

These are all so lovely! And I've thought of another one: I once asked my neighbour if I could borrow his ladder to clean my gutter. Except I still wasn't tall enough to reach, so he cleaned all my gutters for me, and then our other neighbour came outside so went next door and cleaned her gutters too. Then his wife pointed out that he could clean their gutters while he was at it.

murasaki · 25/04/2025 16:39

Last summer, one on my street WhatsApp group had had his tomato and chilli plants grow out of control, so we could all drop by his and collect some produce. They were so much nicer than shop bought.

A few years ago a friend gave Mum and I a carbon monoxide alarm. We.put it in the pantry on the shelf and forgot about it. A few months later, one evening, Mum was watching Police Interceptors. She thought a siren was going for a long time. She muted the TV and followed tbe noise to the cm alarm. The batteries were running low. She came into me with the alarm screaming. The screw was warped so I couldn't get the front off.
I grabbed the alarm and in my pyjamas dressing gown and slippers I ran with the alarm at arms length next door.
Mr NDN heard me coming, rushed into the kitchen and flung the door open.
I threw the alarm at him yelled MAKE IT STOP!! "" and fled into the sitting room with Mrs NDN. Mr NDN had to muffle the alarm with a tea towel while he got the front off!!
Another time we came home from a family wedding at 10pm. Wilf took his hearing aids out and decided to lock the door and have a bath. He fell asleep and of course we couldn't wake him up. Mum and I were going frantic banging on the door. In the end we rang next door. Mr NDN was then coming through the door with his crowbar when Wilf woke up and opened the door.. Wilf is now forbidden to lock the door when he baths at home!!
We love our neighbours very much!
