What song soothed your broken heart?

DebbieTheCat · 25/04/2025 15:49

And you know was written especially for you, as it resonated with your teenaged angst like nothing else?

Mine has to be Air Supply's All Out of Love 😂 💔

Just listening to the first line of the lyrics

I'm lying alone with my head on the phone
Thinking of you till it hurts..

Cracks me up now, but teenage me knew this song was all about my heartache!😆

Just remembered

Maisie Peters - Favourite ex!

DebbieTheCat · 26/04/2025 07:49

Surprised no one has said Whitney's I Will Always Love You yet.
I always think of that news article of someone playing this loud for weeks (months?) on end and their poor neighbour having to endure it 😅

Great thread
'Who needs a heart' tina turner
Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken

violetqueen6 · 26/04/2025 07:54

Also The Only Living Boy in New York
the music as much as the lyrics, although the perverse 'I've got nothing to do today but smile:
always gets me.

Long time dead- Shed Seven

You Say -Lauren Daigle

First is for wallowing, second for drying tears and getting up and out again (I am Christian and it was written as a worship song but works either way, they used it on Love Island so it's not overly so and works without religion)

Can’t believe no one’s said it yet… All Too Well, Taylor Swift was absolutely written about the guy that lovebombed me and then tried to pretend it never happened, whilst simultaneously occasionally reaching out to chat…and bullying me out of our mutual workplace!

You call me up again just to break me like a promise, so casually cruel in the name of being honest. I’m a crumpled up piece of paper lying here and I remember it all, all too well.

I spent hours in my car screaming along to it and the night I saw her sing it live in the o2 was the first time I really believed I’d get over it. In 2024 my lovely DH stood by my side in a Taylor Swift T shirt at Murrayfield and we screamed along together, with Taylor and it felt very full circle.

Also saw a country band live called Old Dominion. They’ve got a song called Break Up With Him. Hearing it at the gig was the prod the ditch the not great guy I lived with and actually feel positive about it!

Alanis Morisette 'You Oughta Know'

Sang that angrily in the car many a time after the ExH fucked off with another woman.

Dry your Eyes Mate by the Streets. My best friend banned me from listening to it when I broke up with my long term boyfriend aged about 23. Might put it on now and relive feeling young (and sad, but I’ll take that to feel young again!)

edited to shout out to @sissygirl23great minds!

Edited

Just done exactly the same and had a little cry!

Wish44 · 26/04/2025 08:22

A Case of You by Joni Mitchell.
After a couple of relationships/flings in my 20s with tortured artistic types.
"Go to him, stay with him if you can, but be prepared to bleed...." 😭

Oh Yes.

ifherbumwereabungalow · 26/04/2025 08:31

King of Wishful Thinking for my school crush, Sail This Ship Alone by the Beautiful South for pretty much anyone else. You Could Be Happy by Snow Patrol always makes me cry as well.

These are great tunes.
Heartbreak does produce some fab belters.
@lemmein I have not thought of that MilliVanilli song in years!

Not been able to hear it in the same way since finding out that it's what the Menendez brothers played at their parent's funeral (!)

I saw girls crying along to this song when I took my teen DD to see Taylor Swift last year and can totally see where you're coming from with this one.

Separate Lives Phil Collins

TheWatersofMarch · 26/04/2025 16:08

Ha ha Im showing my age!

DebbieTheCat · 26/04/2025 19:08

@Bluevelvetsofa Separate Lives reminds me of an ex, it was his heartbreak song.
I asked DH what was his and he said Against All Odds, but I reminded him of the time when we were on a break, and he got a bit tipsy with my brother, and they were both wallowing and drowning their sorrows, wailing along to Gabrielle's Out of Reach. He replied (smart arse) that he was singing to his pint glass 🍺 😆

Fever dream by Gillian Rossi -

Your 'come over' texts at midnight
Rolling out of bed for your lies
Putting glitter on my blind eyes
Loving you wasn't as it seemed
And finding good in bad and ugly
Deep down knowing you don't love me
I'd leave again before the morning
Loving you was a fever dream

It’ll be ok by Shaun Mendes

Illicit affairs by Taylor Swift

Love you, goodbye by One Direction

Love you from a distance by Ashley Kutcher

Walk away by Gigi Moss

Life goes on by Leann Rimes

Thinking of you by Natalie 2V

Is it just me by Emily Burns

I don’t love like I used to by Jaybenz

Out of reach by Gabrielle

Torn by Natalie Imbruglia

You made me by Kelsey Lamb

(Can you tell my heart is currently broken)

Freya Ridings, Lost without you

Standing on the platform, watching you go
It's like no other pain I've ever known
To love someone so much, to have no control
You said, "I want to see the world", and I said, "Go"
But I think I'm lost without you

Twiglets1 · 27/04/2025 05:50

Sinead O’Connor classic: Nothing compares 2U

PermanentTemporary · 27/04/2025 06:02

Not teenage angst but a few months after DH died, I was listening to Amy Lamé's late night show and she played Cranes in the Sky by Solange Knowles. It said everything I was feeling. I love that it's quite restrained, desolate.

DebbieTheCat · 27/04/2025 07:34

I’m sorry to hear that @Imbluedalale 💐 look after yourself x
