Is there a type of healthy yogurt that’s not like yogurt?

I’ve never liked yogurt, the taste or the way it coats your mouth. But I’m trying to lose weight and on researching healthy snacks pretty much everything I’ve read recommends yogurt, or greek yogurt at least! Is greek yogurt like ordinary yogurt or is it different?

Lidl do a 5% greek yoghurt which is much cheaper than Fage.

I tried to find a plant based yoghurt and think they are all disgusting.

piefacedClique · 25/04/2025 19:25

I love the marks and Spencer or fage Greek yogurts. I add a tea spoon of Bon maman black cherry jam to flavour it without it tasting synthetic. Super filling x

Aizen · 25/04/2025 19:27

The Aldi greek ones are good, well I like them! Plain 5% (or is it 10%) with added berries, milled flax and chia seeds. That is so filling and lasts me for hours. Honestly and I'm a hungry bugger!

As for cottage cheese, well I like the taste of it but not the texture or the look, curds, ugh. So I blend it in my little veg chopper/blender thing and it comes out smooth as silk. I add things to it and eat from the tub, or use as a dip for veg sticks etc.

I love Longley Farm cottage cheese, only the full fat stuff, I also love full fat proper Greek yoghurt, which you can then also strain into labneh

Unfortunately they seem to give me heartburn these days, I really miss it

Tbh I have no idea why you'd want to eat yoghurt if you don't like it. Eating yoghurt doesn't make you lose weight, unless you're replacing, for example, 4 tubs of ice cream a week with a load of yoghurt!

MarkingBad · 25/04/2025 19:34

I don't mind greek yoghurt but it has a bit of an aftertaste. I prefer Skyr but my favourite, like PP is plain fromage frais, it doesn't have the after taste most yoghurts do and it's nice and thick

MissScott88 · 25/04/2025 19:39

Aldi fat free honey flavor Greek yogurt. 10 cal jelly pots are also good for a low calorie treat. I sometimes chop fruit, add a jelly pot and some fat free yogurt to a bowl and it feels like I'm eating something more decadent.

I have Greek yogurt every day, but I can’t stand Fage. It’s far too sweet and has a really odd texture to me.

OP have you tried unflavoured Kefir? It takes 3 months of daily drinking for it to improve the numbers of healthy gut bacteria, I swear it’s the reason I dropped the last of my weight.

Chia seeds in yogurt (or a smoothie) are healthy and very filling, so they are good to add in as a snack.

Yes I was addicted to kefir before Fage!! It was a polish brand & I loved the tang! But I do this with everything & have it non stop till am then sick of it. Then Skyr & now Fage. I do love Greek yoghurt - had in Crete as a kid with honey & I remember how delicious it was so think it’s a formative kind of taste I’ll always love.

LucyMonth · 25/04/2025 19:47

Make some yogurt bark OP! All the benefits of yogurt (low calories, high protein) with none of the texture issues!

I love the tang of kefir too

@HugelyExpensiveCrystalDuck totally agree

Gilead · 25/04/2025 19:54

Greek yoghurt in a blender with your choice of frozen fruit, (do not defrost) blitz for your desired consistency and you have a lovely bowl of ice cream, nothing like yoghurt!

LucyMonth · 25/04/2025 19:57

I fucked up my yogurt bark link 😭😭😭

Here’s a photo.

I second yogurt ice cream and also Greek yogurt in smoothies.

I think a sure fire way to fail is to try to eat something you hate! Just don’t do it.
You can have cheese instead of yogurt. You can have fruit for something healthy and sweet.
I eat low carb but I hate avocado so I just don’t eat it!

I’ll give Skyr a go, I might just have to try and force my feelings about yogurt down 😅 I haven’t tried cottage cheese, my mum used to eat it and just the look of it put me off!

What is it about yoghurt that you don’t like. Skyr to me is like sour yoghurt

tartyflette · 25/04/2025 19:17

I prefer fromage frais (but not the 0 % stuff, bit chalky) the normal stuff is lower in fat and calories than cream.
And it’s only slightly tangy, I actually prefer it on strawberries etc as i find normal cream masks the taste of the fruit somewhat.

But it’s basically a soft cheese. It has none of the probiotics that yoghurt has and generally a lot more sugar. It’s lukewarm dessert. The OP is looking for foods to eat that aid weight loss

HarryVanderspeigle · 25/04/2025 20:53

Coconut yoghurt is lovely, assume you like the taste of coconut

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 25/04/2025 22:36

So an update! I tried the skyr with frozen cherries, raspberries and strawberries, I left it for ages so the berries defrosted and I mixed it up until the yogurt turned completely pink 😅 it wasn’t bad actually! I licked the spoon before I mixed it and thought I’d made an expensive mistake but mixed up with berries it was a huge improvement! Still tangy but I didn’t mind it mixed with the fruit and the juice kept it from clinging to everything in my mouth.

Yaay!! That’s really encouraging! I sometimes sprinkle a little stevia in mine but keep the tartness of the fruit as well (stevia from the stevia leaf) is meant to be least offensive of the artificial sweeteners I believe & has virtually no calories.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 25/04/2025 23:23

The Aldi or Lidl Greek yogurt with honey is delicious Really smooth and creamy
I I have some with Jordans no added sugar nutty granola.. Then I add extra raw almonds and possibly half a banana or a handful of frozen berries.
Eat anytime. I often have it for lunch
Life Is too short to force yourself to eat something you don’t like though so it really doesn’t matter

Depends on the product you buy. If it's the normal, plain fromage frais is as healthy as greek yoghurt, low in calories, fats, and sugars, and sometimes higher in calcium and protien than a lot of greek yoghurts

Not all yoghurts contain probiotics.

lovemetomybones · 26/04/2025 08:52

I am like you I hated the stuff but the more I forced myself to eat it the more I liked it! They say you need to eat something 20 times to like it

piefacedClique · 26/04/2025 09:00

I agree with @lovemetomybones . I struggled through the first but now eat it for breakfast or lunch most days. Surprisingly filling too if you add a bit of heathy granola on the side x

getahhtmapub · 26/04/2025 09:24

Why try to eat yoghurt if you don’t like it? It doesn’t make you lose weight. Eat something different you do like!
