The Tories are very much in favour of a US trade deal

https://bsky.app/profile/bestforbritain.bsky.social/post/3lnmtd4ns3s2x

- Shad Trade Sec, Andrew Griffith: "I'd be very worried if [Reeves] comes back empty handed."

- AJ: "What, from this trip?"

- AG: "We could have even had a [US Trade] deal already."

- AJ: "The Tories had years to do a deal and didn't manage it."

- AG: "We actually came very close."

itsgettingweird · 25/04/2025 10:41

14 years to come close but Reeves is a failure if she doesn’t accept whatever agreement they offer in 14hours?!

He sounds just like one of our favourite posters. 😂

Farage is v pleased to be in the cover of The Economist. Could they have made him look more like overdone gammon steak?

(Deleted my account yesterday, as I let something get to me that I should have ignored. Hence another variation on my name).

Love that this was marked as sensitive content. And glad you're back with a new name.

Probably as close as getting a full set of lottery numbers, each one greater than the numbers that were drawn.

Or as close as ending up in Stockport when you wanted to visit Stockton.

Sensibly it wounds like EU trade is being prioritised

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c99p5nrr53mo

Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves, wearing a light blue suit jacket and orange scarf, speaks during a discussion entitled "Debate on the Global Economy: Growth and Resilience in an Uncertain World," during the 2025 annual IMF/World Bank Spring...

Rachel Reeves suggests UK trade with EU more important than US

The chancellor indicates that moving closer to the EU on trade is a bigger priority than the US.

Good I hope this remains the case & if a trade deal is done with America isn’t doesn’t involve in any way shape or form lowering standards I’d trust Labour far more on this than the conservatives.
As for Farage & his Fuckwit followers I can’t be bothered to dress it up he is a cunt & so are they.
Pandora hope you are ok💐

I would not be confident in them actually going to prison. A lifetime of disqualification of being a director, and perhaps several years of being unable to travel abroad or drive, I would support.

We need to have non-custodial punishments that reflect today's world.

Yes. Stupid and pointless law.

Even with really bad stuff - like deaths, not poo in rivers - the only people jailed under the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 (enacted following the Herald of Free Enterprise disaster) have been small business owners. Not the BPs or British Steels.

And what do we do with the ‘directors’ of nationalised industries, i.e. government ministers?

DuncinToffee · 25/04/2025 16:49

Maybe they won't receive prison sentences but at the moment the maximum punishment is a fine and the only 3 people that have ever been prosecuted didn't even receive one.

The EU is prepared to make major concessions in negotiations to allow thousands of young Europeans to live and work in the UK, potentially paving the way for a long-awaited reset with Brussels.

A scheme that would allow British and European 18- to 30-year-olds to travel and work freely has been seen as a key European demand in reaching a post-Brexit pact with the UK centring on defence, energy and migration.

It is understood that EU member states could now be willing to limit work visas to as little as 12 months, with quotas on numbers and restrictions on the sectors EU citizens could work in.

They are also open to a “one in, one out” style plan being considered by the home secretary.

EU sources said the scheme would be rebranded the “youth experience” programme in order to eliminate any suggestion that it was reopening immigration routes for EU citizens wanting to live and work in the UK.

Good. Benefits young people on both sides of the Channel.

BIWI · 25/04/2025 17:56

I’m very cheered by this; I think it’s a very positive development.

DuncinToffee · 25/04/2025 17:59

Me too, small step but a real benefit for young people in the UK, most of them were too young to vote in 2016

Going well in America. They're locking up the judges now...

Yes, scary. Can we call it facsism yet?

You can call anything fascism if you want.

The left generally call anyone they don’t like a fascist.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Starmer had been called a fascist by Corbynistas.

(BTW, if Trump isn’t a fascist he is at least a dangerous fool. HTH)

DuncinToffee · 25/04/2025 21:53

It helps that you think he is just a dangerous fool.

MaybeNotBob · 25/04/2025 22:02

Get away with what? And how would a different label for Trump stop “them”?

MaybeNotBob · 25/04/2025 22:29

Really? You can't see that?

Never mind, go back to your copy of Farage Weekly, and don't worry your little head about it...

I hate Farage. I’d spit on a ballot paper rather than vote for Reform.

MaybeNotBob · 25/04/2025 22:57

Well, that's something at least...
