Is it Easter or Christmas at this point?

I assumed Easter was just for chocolate. Apparently social media thinks otherwise! Glad my kids don’t have phones yet because I definitely don’t want them seeing massive “Easter hauls.” Anyone else noticed this?

Yes, especially on TT

It’s CRAZY

Iwiicit · 21/04/2025 03:19

Mine got one egg each, same as I did. Haven't heard any complaints. Wouldn't care if I did.

DoYaKnowTheFiveLamps · 21/04/2025 03:20

My kids got an egg, a terrys chocolate orange, a big dairy milk bar, and an easter outfit and didn’t complain once

It was like a mini Christmas here I suppose since DC got gifts as well as easter eggs.

FeelYourWorriesDisappear · 21/04/2025 04:26

It’s for whatever you want it to be. If people want to give lots of gifts, they can. Just teach your children that people are different and do things differently.

Soundsfamiliardoesntit · 21/04/2025 04:34

This is news to me.
I thought Easter was a time when you gave chocolate eggs.
More fool the people who turn it into yet another retail-fest and put more financial pressure on themselves.
What good does it do to turn children into materialistic brats.

You thought wrong then. Lots of people give other gifts other than chocolate eggs and some give nothing.

We’re not under any financial pressure, not everyone is. Others may be but they plan ahead and save to give gifts if they want to because it brings them joy. Our children have always been fortunate to have lots of things and they’re not brats. They’re older teens/young adults now and they’re really lovely people, certainly less judgemental that many others on here. 😉

YouAreAToy · 21/04/2025 04:55

Did you really not realise that people give different things? Or did you just want to start another thread to criticise and judge how others do things? 🙄

" Judgemental": one of MN's buzz words.

Why teach children materialism is a source of joy?
That is so sad.

FeelYourWorriesDisappear · 21/04/2025 05:15

@Soundsfamiliardoesntit

lol.

We get joy from many non material things, like being outside with nature and animals. We actually run an animal rescue centre. We also like some ‘material’ things, like most people. We’re not sad at all. 😁

Why?

StarTwirl · 21/04/2025 05:45

One large chocolate egg each unless DC are Easter egg hunting then it’s lots of little ones too. Never done toys unless it’s been a soft toy in a large Kinder Egg. Oh and of course an Easter egg in a cup I love those. We still have those mugs in varying sizes and designs

and a delicious lamb roast which we look forward to every year with family

Blobbitymacblob · 21/04/2025 05:54

Strictly chocolate eggs here too, but I am finding the Easter basket concept from the US fascinating. There was a long thread of my Facebook feed about considering alternatives to “Easter basket grass” which turned out to be strips of luminous green plastic, a bit like tinsel (to pad out a large basket of other plastic tat). It actually made me wonder if Trump’s tariffs on Chinese goods might yet turn out to be what saves the planet.

Glitchymn1 · 21/04/2025 05:55

For some people it’s not about chocolate either. Some people don’t celebrate it at all.

Same here. We have family and friends visiting from my home country so we made the most of it. Lovely food and lots of gifts. We haven't seen them for a few years so it was lovely to celebrate together.

Why not? It’s fun. It’s things I would’ve bought them over spring/summer anyway plus a few Easter themed things like books, puzzles and stickers.

In your previous post you say your children have been taught that material gifts are a source of "joy".

That is totally different from getting pleasure from some material things.

No, since I don’t really do SM, but can’t say I’m surprised. It’s gone the way of Christmas, where too many people seem to think a child is deprived if there isn’t a huge pile of presents - just from the parents.

YorkieTheRabbit · 21/04/2025 09:05

I always used to buy books instead of Easter eggs for my niece and nephew and friends children. The parents were glad as they used to get loads of chocolate.

Apparently Americans do Easter baskets as they don't sell large chocolate Easter eggs in the shops like we do so they need some other container to hold all the Easter treats together.

MidnightPatrol · 21/04/2025 09:21

I was quite surprised by a thread here the other day where people said they were buying multiple chocolate eggs for their children.

If anything my Easter problem is too many people giving my children eggs, which I then need to limit their consumption of. Or ‘help them with’.

RandomWordsThrownTogether · 21/04/2025 09:24

We asked anyone coming on Easter for no chocolate - people brought books, comics and easter activity kits, older kid got cash in lieu of an egg - nothing that cost more than a tenner so not quite christmas. People I didn’t think would get the kids anything randomly dropped off eggs so we’re still swimming in chocolate! We’ve ended up holding back our Easter eggs for next week and are secretly squirrelling away bits from the toddler! It’s just a lot of sugar for small kids so mini gifts are much better imo

I’ve read and re read that persons post and they didn’t say that at all. They said,

BlondeMummyto1 · 21/04/2025 09:33

Everyone I have seen post online had a very low key easter.

drspouse · 21/04/2025 09:34

My DCs are hopeful of cash from Granny (I fear Granny has forgotten the expectation she set up last year).
Other than that, no, it's chocolate all the way.
