Signs of middle age

After many years of feeling that I was an imposter as an adult, I have suddenly jumped to feeling decidedly middle aged (and very happy being so).

The reason being, my sudden overwhelming obsession with gardening. I am spending all my free time either in the garden, or researching plants, watching gardening programmes and spending all my spare money on plants (even though I have run out of space for them).

I know that gardening is for anyone of any age, but for me it reminds me of my garden obsessed parents, therefore a middle-age hobby (for me).

What made you feel/accept the you were middle-aged?

People with little flaps for their iPhones. Like books. And who hold with one hand and stab the screen with a finger to type!!!

Making that grunty/groany noise whenever I sit down or stand up.

My children have banned me from making that groan 😊

44 and for a while now don't notice not being out on weekend evenings, love having nothing on.

Creaking bones just getting out of bed.

Gardening too. I actively look for ways to get out in the garden.
A younger colleague complaining about a birthday treat her mum had planned for her (a visit to a NT property & a garden centre) and all my colleagues commiserating with her about the crappy treat while I internally thought that sounded like a lovely day.

I'd take an uglier pair of comfy shoes over stylish uncomfortable ones

Love an elastic waist trouser

Growing interest in gardening. Starts with a tomato plant and goes forth from there

Like being at home with home comforts

Enjoying a potter in the garden. Thinking professionals look too young to do the job they're doing 😬

Some more. Travelling in comfort becomes important. Holding sub par public loos in contempt. Enjoying a tea room over a busy bar.

My offspring went to a gig on Saturday. I needed to Google them as had no idea who they were Blush

Taking all my supplements and medications away with me in a little tin.

Prescription sunglasses, varifocals and reading glasses are in constant rotation across my face.

Starting every other sentence with, “I was listening to a podcast the other day…”

Realising my elbows now have little wrinkly pouches, like scrotums.

That’s great! But you sound like you don’t think you’re middle aged?? Surely you must be at 46!

Age to me is a frame of mind, you don't have to blame things on "middle age" or decide life has to change or go down hill or you can't do things and if I follow my Dad and die at 51 I'm well beyond it
