Dd after advice from her GP came to a&e at 3.15pm.
She has numbness in legs and now arms.
Feels as though water is running down her legs. It isn't really
Saw someone at 4.20pm to take BP etc.
Told she is to have a scan.
We don't know if its a CT or MRI.
The wait when we came was 2hours 50mins
Now it's 7 hours 40 mins.
Two people have discharged themselves.
10 are in wheelchairs. 5 are waiting for a bed.
Of course I don't know what other people have wrong with them.
But some go into triage room and out again and then in again.

There is no one to ask. Maybe just catch a nurse when they call someone in.
How long should I leave before asking if the scan will be soon.

If you leave, you’ll be in the same situation tomorrow. Are they open 24 hours ?

helpfulperson · 14/04/2025 21:29

Is there not anyone on the reception desk? I don't think it is unreasonable to go and ask at this stage. It is not likely that you have fallen off the radar but it is not impossible.

Ineffable23 · 14/04/2025 21:30

I would go and ask at reception for that I think.

Has her condition worsened - initially just legs but now arms too? I'd go and speak to reception again and let them know.

MrsDThaskala · 14/04/2025 21:31

It’s been 7 hours? Please find someone to ask

Absolutely this

BlondeMummyto1 · 14/04/2025 21:33

No harm in asking reception incase they’ve missed her by accident.

Don’t leave though. You’ve waited this long.. Keep at it or you’ll face the same problem another time.

pilates · 14/04/2025 21:33

Yes definitely go and ask and tell them she is getting worse. I had this once where they said they called me twice and they definitely hadn’t.

groovylady · 14/04/2025 21:36

Tell them her condition is worsening

luxurything · 14/04/2025 21:58

Does she have any back pain? That water running feeling down legs happened to me

snapdragonx · 14/04/2025 21:59

Has she been able to pass urine or have bowel movements? Has her temperature been taken and any pain?

Cadenza12 · 14/04/2025 22:01

You have to ask. People do get overlooked.

violetqueen6 · 14/04/2025 22:05

Yes , do ask . If you can find someone.
Reception may be some distance away , in a separate room so I can understand how there may be no one around

amiadoormat · 14/04/2025 22:05

Are you at a children’s a&e? Sorry you didn’t say if she was an adult daughter or not? Children’s a&e I found quicker . My daughter presented at a&e with similar symptoms - but she was 3 so children’s a&e so shorter wait times. Took a few days to get a diagnoses though and that was after several a&e trips and me being incredibly persistent that my child wasn’t making the symptoms up. What she was eventually diagnosed with ended up being incredibly serious

Pinkdreams · 14/04/2025 22:07

Do you know how many times I’ve been in situations and think I’m being polite by not pestering them, only hours later to be informed they forgot or the information wasn’t communicated to them, go ask

Dymaxion · 14/04/2025 22:09

Absolutely no harm in asking if they know when she might be having her scan, also if the arm numbness is new, let them know.

Waffle19 · 14/04/2025 22:11

I have never found that receptionist staff mind being asked, as long as you’re doing it politely and not doing it every half hour! Hope your DD is ok and you get seen soon.

Lovemycat2023 · 14/04/2025 22:11

Agree with others you should ask at reception as you may have been missed. I assume you haven’t been for any scans yet?

TomatoSandwiches · 14/04/2025 22:14

There's absolutely nothing wrong with asking politely op, people get forgotten about all the time. I hope you get seen very soon.

Zippidydoodah · 14/04/2025 22:17

I would definitely tell them if her condition is worsening. Best wishes 💐

TheAutumnCrow · 14/04/2025 22:19

You're in Majors? This doesn't sound right at all. There should be staff to talk to in Majors and some sense of urgency.

As pp have said, find someone and politely tell them this is serious and you've been left without a clue as to what's going on.

Nextdoortomeis · 14/04/2025 22:22

Dd is an adult.
We have been told it could be 8 hours after checking in. Which will be after midnight

Man in a wheelchair has been here since 2am.

This sounds normal for the last few weeks at my hospital. I’d definitely ask and tell them if her symptoms have changed but sadly this is a normal wait some days

GanninHyem · 14/04/2025 22:50

Took 6hrs for a friend's child to be seen after he had a seizure so... sorry it sounds about right. NHS is fooked.

MrsDThaskala · 15/04/2025 07:34

Hope you’ve been seen and your DD is okay?
