Do you believe mainstream media?

I don’t. I used to and I miss being in that safe bubble. I still have a look to see what is being reported, but I’m no longer in that place where I just assume what I’m being fed is correct without doing my own research.

For societies to function successfully majority of the people need to believe and think similar.
Often, the actual truth is not more important than the fact that people collaborate and somewhat trust each other.

Did people really land on the moon? Either way - it doesn’t change your life. Having half people disbelieve it and argue with the other, because they are smarter than ‘mainstream media’, does create mistrust and with time hostility.

We are just bizarre animals with all these social constructs (made up stuff) who have managed to build civilisations only because these ideas have bonded us. Turning against the commonly accepted is counterproductive and makes you feel less safe and less happy.

If you're quoting Ben Shapiro as a source on media propaganda, surely you're having a laugh?

And Jason Stanley, from above, is now fleeing the US, leaving Yale for Toronto due to the American political situation (brought about, in part, due to Ben Shapiro and his ilk).

its easy to discredit a person so instead whoever an author is i prefer to study what they write instead, do you all remember Michael burry and how people thought his idea was omg ?

Michael Burry who figured out he could make a lot of money? What does that have to do with mainstream media being reliable?

And Ben Shapiro discredits himself almost every time he opens his mouth. He's a liar, and his views on women and muslims are particularly foul. He's become very wealthy off of convincing people to distrust mainstream media.

Your replies seem a bit, dare I say, AI generated @Flytrap01

so you try to discredit what i say by Ai well played well played, all those summarys i copyed from amazon directly to show what books are available to read, i figured id use the books to make my points.

so go amazon

ps i used the mike burry example to prove that when people try to discredit a person instead its better to read what they say and focus on the different points they make and research them rather than oh its x person rambling etc

'I certainly don't trust the BBC' is value laden - why, what don't you trust? Just curious.

I think I have a radar for completely made up news, as in AI generated.

But asides from that I think a huge thing is what's not reported in the news. I suppose I find the news very 'status quo'.

We live in a hall of mirrors now . Lies are everywhere and the truth is often behind a pay wall?
The newspapers can be compared with one another for bias and there is the Press Complaints Commission. But what can you do about the torrent of garbage and misinformation that pours from John Campbell, Russell Brand, Joe Rogan et al. Who do you complain to? I have a family member who fell victim to this stuff during lockdown. Chemtrails, fluoride , Soros, WEF, the Reset, the Plandemic. A far from exhaustive list of their fears and obsessions. I hate these grifting bastards with a passion now.

Ps I'm currently reading Voodoo Histories by David Aaronovitch , all about conspiracy theories through history. Highly recommended!

An interesting view but I’m not sure it works that well, if you look at dominant thinking and what’s changed the people who wanted to change it were at some point on the outside of that.

eg slavery could be an example where it took people questioning the dominant view. The commonly accepted became unacceptable.

I do think we get comfortable with a narrative, perhaps right now it’s consumerism and high movement of goods and people. This seems to be under pressure at may or may not change.
