Gone. Cambs.

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 10/04/2025 20:55

I say it to rhyme with "one" just to mix things up

BCBird · 10/04/2025 20:56

madaboutpurple · 10/04/2025 20:58

Maitri108 · 10/04/2025 20:58

nocoolnamesleft · 10/04/2025 20:59

What's the fastest cake? S'gone!

Freyer · 10/04/2025 20:59

As the joke goes - “whats the fastest cake? SCONE”. Im from Devon but my dad (Cornish) says scone as in bone - but we both agree - jam first!

Buttonknot · 10/04/2025 20:59

Gone - London

AgnesX · 10/04/2025 21:00

Scone = gone in Scotland.

JaninaDuszejko · 10/04/2025 21:00

The thing you eat: scone rhymes with gone
The place where Kings were crowned: Scone rhymes with moon.

Scottish. And since the word comes from Scots then we have the final word.

CarpetKnees · 10/04/2025 21:00

Scone to rhyme with gone - or the joke doesn't work.

Midlands

BobnLen · 10/04/2025 21:00

EveryOtherNameTaken · 10/04/2025 21:00

That sounds interesting. I love learning about etiquette.

My go to is usually gone pronunciation but sometimes if I'm at work I'll change it ( cashier )

Scone rhymes with gone for me- Yorkshire person.

CarolinaInTheMorning · 10/04/2025 21:02

Gone. I'm American living in the US, where the almost universal pronunciation is hone/bone.. But I have lived in Scotland, so I learned how to pronounce it properly. 😀

Saltedcarameltiramisucheesecake · 10/04/2025 21:04

Definitely scone=gone. They don't last long in our house! (N. West)
Also, we just like them buttered, no cream or jam.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 10/04/2025 21:38

Scone like gone but ALWAYS cream first..!

Pandimoanymum · 10/04/2025 21:44
