Can I put anything in this corner?

Bit of a decorating one!
As title says, wondering what I can do with this empty space between the stairs and the bathroom. Anyone got any ideas?
I was thinking a very tall, thin floor vase with something like lavender in it would be nice, but I can’t seem to find the right thing?

I have posted an image but it’s under review

Something tall and thin might be easily knocked over and down the stairs though.

TurningToDetection · 08/04/2025 17:35

I'd reconsider whether you really want anything there. It's a tiny corner at in a very high traffic area so likely to get knocked if you carrying things - like trailing laundry and sheets.

I'm thinking putting something there would make it look tighter, smaller and more cluttered.

I can't see that you can put anything there that would be both improving visually and not detracting practically.

A not-very-deep bookcase or shelving unit, ideally wooden with cupboard doors?

ETA I may have dimensions wrong, as your pictures seem to be hung really low down, below the windowsill, so maybe the space is smaller than it seems. But a wooden unit of some sort might still work.

Ecocool · 08/04/2025 17:39

No. Take the candle out of the window though and put a small plant.

Toonicesometimes · 08/04/2025 17:41

I wouldn’t put anything there, it’s not really a corner it’s the top of the stairs, I think it would not enhance the area in anyway, and would just be an obstacle to avoid l, just my opinion

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/04/2025 17:41

If put floating shelves on the narrow wall

ShrubRose · 08/04/2025 17:42

It doesn't need much, imo. You might hang an attractive framed print at the top of the stairs if you could find or create something of the right size and style.

If you are set on putting something there, I'd go for some sort of interesting wall sticker that you can remove if you decide its naff or you get bored with it.

Comedy here but lots of variety and more adult ones on this site

Agree with making the wall more interesting with a decal or wallpaper

TianasBayou · 08/04/2025 17:46

changing the blind or adding a decorative film to the window would create interest without cluttering the floor space.

ohnowwhatcanitbe · 08/04/2025 17:51

I'd go for a small white wicker thingamajig in that corner.

MrsMoastyToasty · 08/04/2025 17:55

I wouldn't put anything there. It's effectively your fire escape.

Clawdy · 08/04/2025 17:58

I'd put a couple of favourite ornaments or figurines on the sill.

LimeQuoter · 08/04/2025 18:00

Would some kind of wicker chair and cushion fit, and a nice plant on the windowsill. Or an extra fancy laundry basket or slim unit with drawers (could be handy for facecloths, toilet roll etc. )

PTSDBarbiegirl · 08/04/2025 18:02

Nothing on floor but some nice things on the long wall on left of photo might be nice.

LimeQuoter · 08/04/2025 18:03

Or a skinny tall green plant, for a touch of colour. Or just a very nice plant on the windowsill

Keepingongoing · 09/04/2025 08:17

I have a similar space minus the window. For a while I had a small floor standing bookcase there, but I moved it because I realised it made the space feel smaller visually without giving much storage. What was very useful was the top of the bookcase, which I used as a shelf for things that were in transit - used cups, the occasional letter to post, etc

I would try hanging a mirror on your narrow wall, or a few pictures. Or a wall mounted shelf. Maybe hang a couple of plants either side of the window. I think plants sitting on the window might get knocked off.

Alternatively, if the space is bigger than appears in the photo, you can get floor standing units that fit into a corner.

1apenny2apenny · 09/04/2025 08:38

I would remove that candle or put a cream coloured one there. I would put a dangly plant on the left of the windowsill and a taller one on the right

WonderingWanda · 09/04/2025 08:40

I would just put something more interesting on the window sil.

inappropriateraspberry · 09/04/2025 08:43

Maybe a small bookshelf, but it’s an awkward spot and I’d leave it clear as it’s at the top of the stairs.

MyOtherProfile · 09/04/2025 08:45

My first thought was to paint a tree on the wall. Decals are a good idea though. Create a bit of interest without losing space in a small area.

ShiftySquirrel · 09/04/2025 08:46

I'd go for a small trailing plant on one side of the windowsill rather than anything in the corner.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 09/04/2025 08:46

Maybe two long thin pictures either side of the window and a plant on the windowsill? There isn't space to put anything safely on the floor in the corner imo.

The pictures on the stairs need to be higher up - they must be at waist height as you go up or down the stairs.

Shirtless · 09/04/2025 08:51

Nothing on the ground. I’d hang a trailing houseplant in a hanging pot from the ceiling in the corner where it will get light from the window, but only if it can be hung so that it doesn’t interfere with the blind or the light switch. If that doesn’t work, I’d put a row of small succulents on the sill.
