Vinted is getting worse!

Honestly I despair at times with Vinted. The other day, I listed a couple of nice dresses, a JellyCat and some jewellery, and straight away people are just offering the most ridiculous amounts - it's like the lowest that they can offer. Some people are even messaging me begging me to accept £5 for a £15 dress, claiming its all they can afford. One woman argued with me at a price of a necklace saying it's so expensive for something so small. Normally I ignore, but I did retaliate and state "well don't buy it then".

Over the last couple of days, the amount of fakes too is shocking. I have reported some and Vinted come back saying they aren't breaching any community standards, all because they post a pic of a fake designer bag, but list it as EGO (that's the most common brand they are listed as).

Ready to give up on it. You don't go into River Island or whatever shop and say "I know the price is £XX, but would you accept 75% less?" then continue to ask!

Rant over!

I am not listing anything else on Vinted it's full of bargain hunters and vultures to be honest. I get double on eBay selling than I do on V and the people are nicer.

Edited

Any tips on Ebay please or where I can find tips?

LoafofSellotape · 12/05/2025 23:20

Vinted encourages buyers to offer up to 40% less.

What sellers don't seem to realise ( as multiple threads like these show) is that once the insurance and postage is added it bumps it right up and it's a risk buying the item as it might not fit /it's crap/ it smells etc.

Saying that,I buy a lot but I'm selective but very rarely pay full price.

Azuresky68 · 12/05/2025 23:24

I am intrigued about the amount of items some people list..some are listing more than a thousand items...how can people have so many clothes? I am clueless, as you can probably tell!!

I purposely list much higher than I expect to sell so am sometimes pleasantly surprised when it sells full price, I expect lowball offers and I choose whether or not to go with it depending on variables.
i also put in low offers as a buyer and see what works. Sometimes it really works in my favour, other times it doesn’t.
i don’t use eBay anymore because I find sellers fees too complicated, even though I can make more there, Vinted is a much more simple process for me

yummyscummymummy01 · 13/05/2025 14:30

Still love Vinted. It's a market place so I think making and getting offers is entirely expected. I think the biggest issue is that's there's so much on there getting your items seen can be tricky.

LittleLlama · 13/05/2025 14:39

I still love Vinted but buy more than I sell. I have noticed a lot of people tend to put in offers and now price accordingly. The worst is when someone makes an offer, you accept and then they don’t buy it (which of course can’t happen on eBay).

madaboutpurple · 13/05/2025 15:13

I am the same as Crispynoodle I just pay the requested amount and leave good feedback about the seller. I would never ask for less. I think the prices are fair enough. I have only been sent laundered clothes so I have no complaint.

Annoyingly it can happen on eBay too , happened
to me twice with 2 different buyers just recently !
I’m not sure what the repercussions are for the buyer ( if any ) but I did report them both for non payment

bittertwisted · 13/05/2025 18:59

I just use it to sell cheap but bulk, which otherwise is languishing in the Vinted pile of doom. EBay for anything of value
amazes me how many people seem to get round the rules. When I was new I put stock photos on (allowed on eBay) and my listings were immediately removed!

BreadInCaptivity · 13/05/2025 19:04

Ive listed some nice stuff on Vinted and not had a problem.

Like a pp I just state upfront that I won’t accept offers (apart from my bundle discount) as I have posted the price I’m willing to sell at. Seems to do the trick.

The few that do put in an offer I just swiftly decline with no response.

Disscombobulated · 13/05/2025 19:28

I am often get offers, but if I don’t want to accept I don’t. I always get great feedback. I only sell, don’t buy.

Mynewnameis · 13/05/2025 19:30

I've bought stuff recently that's been listed as a different colour, no returns.
Other things shrunk to sizes smaller
Two separate things were mouldy.

I don't ever make offers, I pay full price

It goes both ways. Some sellers are shit

I agree. Some sellers are either deluded or have very ‘interesting’ standards. I look at the photos very very carefully and see if they match the description closely. If a decent description is missing and/or there are very few photos (or they’re bad quality), I move on to something else. If the photos match the description, I check the seller’s feedback. Only then do I consider buying.

My bug bear is sellers who choose ‘new without tags’ when it’s clearly not a new item and/or describe something as “only worn once” when it looks like it’s taken quite a beating. Not sure if they think buyers are stupid or if the sellers themselves are the stupid ones. Or the sellers who price things higher than the cost of buying brand new direct from the brand. Just bonkers.

Saying that, I’ve found 80% of sellers are good and some of them are truly lovely. But avoiding the bad ones feels like hard work at times.

UnashamedLabelHo · 13/05/2025 19:38

I don’t make offers ever - I only buy things I’m familiar with in terms of sizing and if the reviews are good, I assume I’m going to get something clean and as described and I usually just buy casual clothes anyway. If I can get a good as new cotton shirt for £8.50 plus postage, it would be cheeky to try to beat someone down.

PassingStranger · 08/08/2025 13:12

That's part of it.
You get that at car boots, and when buying houses also.
You don't have to accept but it's life.

ByJustJoker · 19/04/2026 20:17

yeah realistically people shouldnt sell fakes on vinted and it goes against policy. But if they are selling them under the brand EGO, they are admitting it’s a fake, and they aren’t being unfair. If people choose to buy fakes to save money, that’s their choice. If that bothers you, it rlly shouldn’t x

MrsEmmelineLucas · 19/04/2026 20:20

Overthebow · 08/04/2025 20:45

I just use Vinted as a way to shift loads of clothes that I’d just end up throwing away otherwise. I keep the money in there and then buy the next lot of kids clothes with it. I sell things very cheap.

Don't throw them away! Give them to charity!

MidnightMeltdown · 19/04/2026 22:04

SnoozingFox · 08/04/2025 20:45

That's not a Vinted problem. That's a people problem. You cannot blame VInted for the cheeky fuckers on their platfotm.

I think it is a Vinted problem because they shouldn’t allow people to make stupid offers. It’s basically just spamming the sellers.

I prefer eBay because you can turn the best offer option off, or set it to automatically reject offers below a certain amount.
