Are you going to get the COVID vac for spring

Proudofthem · 07/04/2025 08:56

Just had a text message from the NHS saying I can book a COVID vac as I'm on a list for having cancer 5 years ago. I've not heard of any people I know getting COVID but I'm not saying it's not still around.
Are you having it.

I had mine last week. I’m immunosuppressed.

cakeandteaandcake · 07/04/2025 08:58

I go whenever they invite me.

AllotmentTime · 07/04/2025 08:59

Yep. Don't want long covid.

If I was given the chance I would (I’m not likely to be offered it). I had Covid last summer and it knocked me out for a week.

Longma · 07/04/2025 09:00

It’s definitely still around. People do catch it. Most people won’t be testing though, especially as the free tests for EV people, including most CV/ECV have stopped.

I get invited for the spring one but haven’t taken it up year or last. I tend to get the autumn one, along with the flu vaccine.

Ballgames · 07/04/2025 09:00

I won’t be offered one but my DP has.

He has a suppressed immune system but won’t have the jab anymore.

TheGriffle · 07/04/2025 09:01

I won’t be having any more after I had a bad reaction to the last one, full body hives, itching and pain (all reported on the yellow card scheme). It’s put me off and made me quite wary of them. I’ve never had a reaction like that to any other vaccine, or the first 2 I had had previously.

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 07/04/2025 09:05

If I get an invite then yup, I’ll be having mine. I got the last booster in October so don’t know if I’ll be offered in Spring as well.

I got covid really badly in 2020 which has led to long term effects (possibly why I have CKD now) and caught it a few other times and I really don’t want it again!

user2848502016 · 07/04/2025 09:05

No because I’m not on the free covid jab list so would have to pay , I would be having it if I was invited through the NHS though

squashyhat · 07/04/2025 09:41

Not this time. I'm immunosuppressed and have had them all so far, but the Autumn one caused a bad flare-up in my illness and my consultant suggested it wasn't worth having another one.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 07/04/2025 09:48

Had it last week. Slightly sore arm, no other ill effects.

Berlinlover · 07/04/2025 09:53

I believe the Covid vaccine is the cause of my metastatic cancer so I definitely won’t be getting another one.

Sonolanona · 07/04/2025 09:55

No. Both me and my DS2 are invited due to immune issues but the jabs have made us both quite unwell, more than catching Covid has. If a strain appears that is super deadly then I'll consider it.

luna2025 · 07/04/2025 10:47

have not decided yet.. probably will

MadamePeriwinkle · 07/04/2025 10:49

Friend of mine had it last week. I work in a school medical room and I have an elderly parent to support.

Thankfully I'm usually offered it and will definitely have it if I get the chance.

Olika · 07/04/2025 10:57

I get offered it due to my BMI but haven’t taken it since 2023 and not planning on taking it. I just don’t trust it being safe anymore.

Whoarethoseguys · 07/04/2025 10:59

If I was eligible yes I would certainly have it. I have just read an article that said there has been a recent surge in Covid cases. I won't be eligible for a jab until the autumn and I will definitely have it then

I'm so sorry to hear about your metastatic cancer. What makes you so certain it was the vaccine that caused it?

Why? Hundreds of millions of people have had it and there have been a handful of instances where it has adversely affected anyone. And those cases were mainly in the early days. It is as safe if not safer than any other medication.

Can I ask what makes you think this? Not being goady but genuinely interested - I have had breast cancer twice and have been invited for a booster, can't decide whether to have it.

I had breast cancer 4 years ago and I haven't been invited - maybe I should check with my GP.

Did you have chemo? I'm pretty sure that's what triggered my first invite.

No I had surgery and radiotherapy - that probably explains it. So sorry about you having it twice!

Mightymoog · 07/04/2025 14:33

gosh, more anecdotes about bad reactions,
Care now, you'll get called conspiracy theorists

TrickyD · 07/04/2025 14:49

I’m over 75 so was offered one and received it. All very convenient, done at our local pharmacy. The ‘jabber’ looked at my record and said this was my tenth.
I am the only one amongst our family and in-laws who never caught Covid.
Arm a bit sore next day, but well worth it.
