How long would you keep this in the fridge?

chicken breast, roasted Sunday evening. Cooled quickly and put into fridge wrapped. We use it for salads at work - in insulated lunch boxes then salads immediately into fridge.
how many days would you use it for out of interest?

At least 5 days probably. Depends a bit how it looks, if it was whole roast then use half first than the untouched half would be absolutely fine later on. 1 breast that is cut at each day might start to look a bit dried out and discoloured after 3 days.
If you wanted it to last all week then you could keep 2 days fresh and freeze the rest in portion size bits, if you take in frozen to work it will thaw by lunchtime

Depends on how good your fridge is really. Our new fridge is significantly better at storing things than our old one but with chicken I'd throw it on the Thursday. I usually go by if I don't fancy it ,I don't eat it. So look at it and sniff it and make a decision.

If the expiry date was the day you cooked it, I'd want to eat it within a day or two.
If the expiry date was a week away I'd be happy to keep it in the fridge for a few days longer.

Thanks everyone! My DP is convinced it will do all week as pack up, I’m convinced there is a chance he will make himself ill! Fridge is brand new Samsung one and to be fair is fab.

Why though?

Any microorganisms in the raw meat are killed by the cooking. Spoilage after cooking is caused by completely different bacteria.

Honestly, we’ve roasted a chicken on a Sunday and finished eating it six days later. If your fridge is 5°C or under and you haven’t stored it beside raw meat, it should be fine. Trust yourself, if it looks, tastes and smells ok, it’s probably fine.

If things like this make you uneasy, remember you can always slice it up and freeze it on the day or day after cooking it. It can then be thawed and eaten as usual in a sandwich, salad etc or re cooked in another dish.

I cook a chicken every Sunday, pull it apart and keep it in an airtight tub.

I use it for lunches up to Thursday then make tea on Thursday night with the leftovers. If we've made a different tea on a Thursday DH will occasionally use the chicken for lunch on Friday and he's still alive!

I would say 4 days, but it does sound like you did brilliantly in terms of refrigerating it quickly, I might chance it today if looked and smelt ok. Probably would serve it to elderly or pregnant people.

Look at the use by dates on cooked chicken in the chiller cabinets in shops and see how long you can get, probably about 5 days from purchase or more, not that I even taken any notice of that

OH on the other hand, would not even eat left overs, wont eat anything that has already been opened or cooked and put in the fridge. Wasteful.

That's usually either vacuum packed or gas flushed though(aka, sealed in a protective atmosphere) that makes a huge difference to shelf life, hence why it always has a shelf life of x days, but says use withing x days of opening.

Not if it’s properly cooked. Cooking properly kills all the bacteria so it makes no difference.
