So I’m a 67 yr old woman

As the sun was shining this afternoon I picked a couple of plants up whilst out shopping today.
I made a brew and took myself outside to plant them.
last year I enjoyed doing the garden, would just go out and tinker about tidying it up mainly flower beds as dp woukd cut the grass.

so now to today, It was a chore ! My knees were burning feeling with bending down I had to sit on the grass. The soil is full of cement balls/stones and twigs from last year when we cut hedge down due to next door neighbour damaging about 2 foot of hedge and neighbour put fence in for the damaged hedge.
It felt so so much like hard work, hard soil(winter also) obviously I had to finish what I started and dp helped move the rubbish etc
but I’ve come in and Im literally too tired to make a tea and just feel completely scattered and really feel down. I know people say you should be grateful for your good health and what you have (I do have bad feet and it’s uncomfortable to walk) but I feel so defeated and deflated
I come to realise
In my head I think I can do. But
my body isn’t as capable

anyone else come to this conclusion?

I’m late 50s and I hear you!

I now go to a weights class 2x a week run by a lovely PT who has definitely tapped into the older 60+ market.

Classes are cheap, good fun and less than an hour. I started as my NY resolution and it’s sticking so far. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Since the weather has picked up and I’m now back in the garden, I’ve had nowhere near the same kind of niggles as I usually have.

Instead of gym membership, I have a monthly subscription to a local physio practice and I see someone 2x a month. That keeps a lot of niggles at bay.

Meanwhile I have neighbours in their late 30s who are delightful… but their energy levels are (to me) amazing. I have to remind myself that I was like that too at their age.

I should say though that I know at least four people who defy their age, all older than me. A 75 year old who goes hillwalking and cycles long distances. A 66 year old who does the same, and is very active and fit. Two other friends in their mid sixties who cycle 40 miles a day, walk a lot and are always having adventures. I feel a little hacked off sometimes as I’ve always walked and eaten healthily. It’s just not enough clearly.

You my love need to start weight training! It's not too late, you won't regret it xx

I think I should start this. My friend is 15 years older than me, in her mid 70s, and has been doing it for around 15 years . She is strong and fit, and keeps a beautiful garden.

Just start with lighter weights gradually going heavier, it's called progressive overload.
And always warm up.
