Why are people wearing those ridiculous Cliff Richard glasses?

I know I’m old and stop press people like different things etc etc but I’ve just seen Gwyneth Paltrow in a pair and honestly they just don’t do anyone any favours. Some fashions should not come back!

I am not a fan of aviators personally but they are better than the hideous cheap looking Deirdre Barlow/Timmy Mallet type specs I see so many women wearing these days

Agree with the pp, only hot people can pull them off. Google Cate Blanchett pink glasses- they look great on her! I'd look awful

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 27/03/2025 18:22

They aren't as bad as those really thick plastic framed monstrosities in vile "edgy" colours. Prue Leith style. Yuk.

One of my favourite pieces of graffiti ever

Are you a style icon yourself? If not, live and let live.
There are plenty of people who wear (to me) ridiculous 'fashion' that is inappropriate for their age/size, etc. But I just laugh inwardly and walk on.
I'm sure others think I look daft in some of my clothes

RockStarMartini · 27/03/2025 21:31

@TheCountofMountingCrispBags yes I’m style personified me. Models and celebrities always on the phone asking me what they should be wearing.

Same reason they wear ugly Uggs, pulled up sports socks and those vile quilted granny-style puffa coats.

Following trends even when the trend is ugly as fcuk.

i don’t think I’ve seen a granny style puffa coat

the “young ones” I work with all have that Deirdre Barlow look - thin metal frames on oversize specs, oversize cardigans, high waisted trousers

Pigeonqueen · 27/03/2025 22:00

I don’t think anyone would wear something they view as ugly, just other people see it as ugly. I remember my Mum being absolutely horrified by me wearing pretty maxi skirts with huge doc martens in my teens. She thought it looked absolutely hideous. I thought it looked amazing. Style is subjective.
