How many do you have? A kitchen disaster has meant dh was clearing out and removing cupboards today. I’ve had a sort through the tea towels before they all go back in (kitchen disaster is now under control) and we have got 25 - this sounds like absolutely loads and it’s probably 30 due to some probably waiting to be washed and some in the dryer.
Have you got more? Less?
If I’m wildly hoarding tea towels I’ll happily let some go but was curious as to how many you’ve all got lurking. Possibly no one will answer as let’s face it, who’s trawling their way to their kitchens now just to count tea towels…
PS, we also have a similar number of dishcloths…

I probably have way too many (20+) but when I find beauties like this, I can't resist!

Haha that’s actually a great tea towel @OliveHenry and I’m not one for a novelty household item usually!

Maybe 20 and all black

merrymelodies · 26/03/2025 04:57

I have around 10 but they sit at the bottom of the laundry basket because I can’t be bothered to iron them. IMO tea towels have to be pressed and neatly folded. 😅

windysocks · 26/03/2025 05:37

I have loads of- probably about 20. A couple of favourites- really old worn towelling ones that are great at drying, not so good stiff cotton ones that don't dry well. We go through about 3 a day, recently bought a new 3 pack of lovely towelling heart ones from Morrisons which are the perfect thickness. I hang it on a rail above the sink so no floor drips when you're looking for a t towel . Anyway after typing this I realise I should get out more! 🤣

PurBal · 26/03/2025 05:43

Not enough.

H0LLOW · 26/03/2025 05:51

I was hoping this might be a thread about how pointless those stiff cotton tea towels are because I’ve never understood the point of them! They don’t dry anything!!
we have those checkered towelling ones, probably about 10 of them. One colour for hands and one for drying stuff/surfaces etc

Bignanna · 26/03/2025 18:33

They make good window cleaning cloths!

TheeNotoriousPIG · 26/03/2025 18:59

I have about eight checked towelling ones (the kind that Joseph and the shepherds wear in the Nativity play), because they were on '4 for 3' offers at Dunelm. I had to buy two lots, because one of my dogs (as a puppy) kept chewing the corners and hiding them in her bed. That's probably why they've lived in a drawer ever since...

I'm another one who doesn't see the point in the aesthetically pleasing but stiff cotton tea towels. Tea towels dry things, but the pretty ones don't!

Sortalike · 26/03/2025 19:15

Not sure how many we've got (possibly 20?) but i do have a favourite tea towel. I get quite upset if I feel its not being used appropriately (looking at you DH....its not for cleaning your golf clubs!)

CarpetKnees · 26/03/2025 19:23

There's probably another 3 or 4 under the sink, but we have 3 we tend to use.

We have a dishwasher, so they don't get pounded with heavy use.

We have a hand towel in the kitchen we use to dry hands on, and oven gloves for getting things out of the oven, and a cloth for wiping down surfaces, so the tea towels are generally only used when unloading the dishwasher, when water has stayed on top of something.

MarioAndLuigiAreDoingWhatTheyCan · 26/03/2025 19:30

Probably 20-25 in the kitchen drawer. When they get too tatty they move to the basket of cleaning cloths to sacrifice for dirty jobs etc, there must be 10 in there.

Ironing them? Say what!? No.

LeroyJenkinssss · 26/03/2025 19:35

Around 4 or so. I feel like I’m failing in this…

Overtheatlantic · 26/03/2025 19:37

About 20 although I’ve recently splurged on 6 new blue gingham ones from JL, with a plan to use the rest for rags.

soupyspoon · 26/03/2025 19:44

More than you OP. I just sorted some out recently so that ones that look a bit raggedy are in another cupboard as mop ups or things that can go on the floor, or round things, or for messy stuff are still there but not clogging up the basket

Then I have ones that are stained but still good but dont want them in the actual kitchen

Then I have ones that still had the labels on them. Then there was loads with dog hair on them and even though we are furiously washing them, the hair just wont come off and Im paranoid about that when cooking for work colleagues that they'll have a cat or dog hair in their muffin or slice of cake or something

The dog died about 6 years ago.

ConcernedOfClapham · 26/03/2025 19:46

3, used in rotation every few days. Then washed. My mother has (always had) about 53, which spurred me on not to accumulate too many…

soupyspoon · 26/03/2025 19:47

I would love around 3 or 4 nicely folded and ironed in a draw

Instead I have one of those storage baskets with them stuffed in there like the stuffing in a rag doll.

SpringIsSpringing25 · 26/03/2025 19:51

YourWinter · 25/03/2025 22:07

I have a set of five towelling ones in regular use and one older one spare. And five old threadbare ones under the sink for mopping up horrors.

Actually there are seven that I never use because they were souvenirs from holidays, or the ones the primary school did with the kids’ handprints or drawings.

Those kids of mine are all in their 30s and their tea towels have been rolled up unused for over 25 years!

I took photos of those and then put them into the general use basket, they make me smile every time they get to the top & The now no longer little people were happy just having a digital image and me actually using the damn things!!

🤔

CakeFace1234 · 26/03/2025 19:54

Oh gosh I love tea towels. It's my affordable indulgence. I just counted - 27. It is hard to shut the drawer. I get through 1-2 a day and many of my 'oldies but goodies' are fading now. I buy Christmas ones every year, I've bought some nice ones recently from John Lewis with New York, Rome and Venice scenes, which I had planned to turn into aprons but didn't, a lovely seaside one from Whistlefish, my poshest one is from Oliver Bonas.

Yes, I put my iron up in the loft during some renovation work, it's still there (quite some years later) the only things I miss it for are the tea towels and pillowcases 🤣🤣. But I line dry everything and fold them firmly afterwards and make do with that for now! My place is very small and I really don't want to have the ironing board and iron back down from the loft simply for tea towels and pillowcases.

stayathomer · 26/03/2025 19:55

I have 5!! And two are Christmas themed😅

Roundaboot · 26/03/2025 19:55

Oh God, at least 30! About 10 naice ones, and then the rest in various stages of fading and having holes and stains. We don't have a dishwasher though so get through at least one a day.
We're also of the age (late 40s/early 50s) where it's become acceptable to give and receive tea towels as gifts so have gained a few that way.

NotOnlyMercutio · 26/03/2025 19:57

I reckon at least 30.
But most of them are well over 20 years old. Some DH had when he was a student, so 30 years old
They get used every day, washed and ironed weekly, and only thrown away once they are more hole than cloth!

Anjo2011 · 26/03/2025 19:57

I’ve got approx 10, use one or two a day.
