Strange Anxiety Symptoms

Kwb1234 · 25/03/2025 13:53

Hello, I have recently seen a neurologist who thinks my symptoms maybe from anxiety (no emg done). I am struggling at the moment to accept this as my symptoms are near enough unheard of. Could someone comment if you have the symptoms below:
Muscle twitching all over including face tongue 24/7
Internal tremors

Wake up feeling like my body is vibrating or trembling
Feel like i slur sometimes and i forget a word in a sentence when speaking or say the wrong word
Sometimes feel like my tongue is cold on certain spot
Base of skull feels tight constantly
Does anyone have these symptoms related to anxiety?

I get the internal tremors and the feeling of vibration. I also wake up with the awful feeling of doom nearly every morning. Horrible symptoms but can be put down to the surge of cortisol in the body as you wake up. Mine tends to go once I'm up and doing things.

I know that anxiety can have many weird and wonderful physical symptoms but I don't know more than a neurologist so I don't really know what to say.

Yes I have the same feeling of doom in my stomach most mornings..it also alleviates for me as the morning goes on. I just accept it now and continue on with my day.

I have GAD and I have much the same as you, OP, bar the tongue thing.

I know anxiety can throw up many weird and wonderful symptoms, and I have heard of many people getting those you describe, and have experienced them myself!

I wouldn't override a neurologist, but if you're open to it, you may like to look into the work of Dr John Sarno which address things like this. His book 'The MindBody Prescription' is an accessible classic on the subject.

Kwb1234 · 25/03/2025 14:05

Im really finding it hard to accept. I do have GAD but have done since a child and never had all these symptoms. Its been going on since August last year im not sure how to elevate all these symptoms they are driving me crazy and constantly making me google! Which obviously makes me worse LOL

I have muscle twitching. Legs, arms, eyes. Sometimes my words get muddled more than slurred. I have a lot of tension headaches.

LaPetitePouleRousse · 25/03/2025 14:10

And I also get the 'doomy morning cortisol' described above! It's normal and correct for the body to produce cortisol to wake us in the morning, but with anxiety our body can either overdo it, or make us more sensitive to the effects.

The best thing for me is to GENTLY guide myself to light activity and distraction, read something positive or try a meditation (though sometimes too jangly for meditation - a walk with music is great if you can manage it). I delay my coffee for about an hour or so after waking too. Breathe deeply, accept it, and trust it isn't harmful and will pass.🙂

@Kwb1234 whe they said anxiety, did they mention FND - Functional Neurological Disorder?

@Iwanttoputmytreeup apologies if my last message sent to you it isnt showing on my phone. He didnt say..is this what you have? A gp did once say it could be but said she wasnt medically trained neurology and to wait for neurologys input. My discharge letter says that he wonders if my symptoms are due to anxiety..no emg etc was done x

I've had things like my body going completely numb and feeling like I'm going to float away. It's definitely mental as I can almost conjure up the sensation now by focusing on it. It's like an almost panic attack or fainting. With mine there is quite a specific stress situation causing it. Plus I'm menopausal, so, yeah.

Kwb1234 · 25/03/2025 15:02

@BarneyRonsonits hard!

@Kwb1234
No I don't have it but know people who do - it is a neurological condition that produces a range of symptoms, potentially inc those you have described, but there is no physical issue to be found in blood tests and scans etc. As it happens it is National FND today. Have a look at FND Hope website as it explains it well - often described as a software problem within your body rather than the hardware such as your brain, nerves etc. Can be the bodies way of 'coping' with stresses and psychological issues

How long have you had these symptoms- I had almost identical post covid and post vaccine - intense for about 8 months and gradually faded- - I also had very sore dry eyes and a feeling like my forehead was ‘burned’ . the back of the head/ base of skull headaches were awful - I had to take beta blockers for a while which sorted them out. I saw a neurologist too as was convinced I had MS or motor neurone ( I’m 63 now- (was 61 at the time) and she said she had seen many similar cases at the time - particularly the vibrations thing - it felt like someone had stuck a Duracell battery in my lower legs and in one finger - a lot of it for me was one sided too

Do you know what made your symptoms go away, did you do or take anything to see them off?

Crikeyalmighty · 25/03/2025 15:37

For me there were certain things - low dosesbeta blockers started the decline in headaches although do make you feel odd at first , my vit D was below normal, so vit D spray every day , magnesium spray on my lower legs helped a lot with the internal buzzing in my legs and the weird c frequent pins and needles in feet, a daily multi vit, at least 2l of water a day, and 20 minutes on bed every day for months just doing deep breathing from stomach plus neck stretches and a bit of tai chi - the weird spacey /feinting feeling that came on occasionally for 5 minutes a time, the neuro told me to focus on a point about 5 metres away and just stare at it solid for a minute whilst listening to breathing- that strangely helped too . It did all gradually fade but several things never fully righted- still get sore eyes a lot and a bit of arthritis in neck at times - the rest though vastly improved- I’ve also eaten better, and lost 2 stone, although still overweight by a couple of stone. The neuro certainly thought it was a post viral issue that had sent my nervous system nuts- but whether covid or vaccine- who knows- in my case started 2 weeks after 4th vaccine and a week after I had Covid for 2nd time.

Kwb1234 · 25/03/2025 15:52

@CrikeyalmightyI havent had the vaccines but started around august last year! Driving me mad 🫠

I get exactly this. I didn’t realise it was anxiety. I get a weird pressure in my head too, not pain, more like someone is squeezing my head. It’s bloody awful.
sometimes when I’m in bed it feels like the washing machine is on full spin and making the house shake. It’s really weird. And the sense of doom first thing is horrendous. It does make me get out of bed sooner though!!

Kwb1234 · 25/03/2025 16:03

@Iwanttoputmytreeupinteresting..I will have a look hoping it isnt this 🫠x

I get muscle twitches, burning tongue, internal tremors, feel like my head/sinus area is being squeezed, reflux, tachycardia, ectopic beats, pins and needles. Probably more that I can't remember. Have been thoroughly checked out and know that its anxiety.

Crikeyalmighty · 25/03/2025 16:40

@Kwb1234 had you had Covid though within a few months before it started out of interest that you know of or a bad virus that could have been Covid but you didn’t test?

Crikeyalmighty · 25/03/2025 16:43

@Iwanttoputmytreeup that was the other thing the neuro suggested to me - we considered Fibro too but in all honesty couldn’t say I had pain - ( apart from neck and back of head) it was far more about very unpleasant sensations.

Fairyvocals · 25/03/2025 16:50

How old are you? I had the internal tremors and the constant feeling of doom (plus various other fun symptoms) and SSRIs didn’t touch the sides. HRT, however, has helped massively.

Kwb1234 · 25/03/2025 17:31

@Fairyvocalsi am 27.. they tried beta blockers with me but it drops my bp too low x
