(Previous thread 16).

Spring is springing, daffodils blooming all over our LairGarden, which have not all been picked by a neighbour's kid...

In the TalkLair, the hearth is glowing, books by non-approved authors line the shelves, cosy rugs are down on the floors looking a bit stained by cat hairball regurgitation. The denizens of the lair are a welcoming bunch though, always eager for general chit-chat on all manner of topics. We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

Monday is sloths. Ooh! Tomorrow!

I remember Fawaz and tethys and met up with them a few times. He's a bear of a man! They're good people. Tasselhoff of course, but never met him and I remember your old name and 10Smith and you getting together. It was all rather lovely!

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 06/04/2025 08:25

@Britinme I remember 10Smith, we used to chat regularly at one point. Good bloke. Met Fawaz several times and like him a lot. We're about 12 hours apart in age.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 06/04/2025 08:29

Looking at harmonica man, he's not doing the flat footed squat but is on his toes a bit. With that and his straight back, I can only think that he's done a huge amount of Chi Kung.

Monday is sloths. Ooh! Tomorrow!

For you, @FagsMagsandBags

Monday Sloths! This is very exciting indeed! I am expecting many sloth photos...

Re: squatting, DDs tell me that none of their school friends except the Asian ones can do a full squat in during PE exercises. Once, DDs got mildly told off by a PE teacher for squatting too deeply because "it will damage" their joints or something. They said "yes miss" and then carried on. I imagine that almost all small children, being more flexible, would be able to squat. But it is clearly a flexibility that is lost quite quickly, by early teens at the latest, unless regularly done.

Wot-i-reckon is that the Asian squat toilet ensures very regular practice Grin but DDs have no trouble squatting despite not having grown up with these. DD2 struggles a bit more with squatting because of her left foot - don't know if anyone remembers but she was born with a club foot which was corrected over several years - so she has reduced dorsiflexion on that ankle.

I've always been able to squat. As a child I used to play with that Russian dancing where you squat and kick your legs out in front of you. I was obsessed with it for some reason. In the olden days I had a boyfriend who told me that men can't squat and when I told Mr Veg, who had been in the merchant navy, he said 'He's never seen the dockers in India if he thinks men can't squat'. When we got to Asia, everyone squatted quite comfortably.

Gonners · 06/04/2025 08:54

I just read @RasaSayangEh's "Monday Sloths!" and now have an earworm of The Scaffold's song, 2 Day's Monday. It's greatly improved by changing the first lines to "Monday's sloths" rather than "washing day".

NoBinturongsHereMate · 06/04/2025 10:17

Cossack squatting is up on the toes. Quite a different type of squat - and one I can do easily (not the kicking bit, just the starting point).

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 06/04/2025 10:24

I can't remember now whether my feet were flat or up on the toes, but I had great fun with the 'dance'.

moto748e · 06/04/2025 11:22

Remember tass well, who always seemed a decent bloke, and his rather unfortunate departure from MN, but not the other two. France in June could be real hot, depending on where.

Britinme · 06/04/2025 13:30

We’re staying in the Dordogne for a week and meeting up with Tasselhoff on the way north to the Loire valley.

artant · 06/04/2025 14:05

I also remember Tass but not the other two. Tass’s environmentally friendly additions to his house in France sounded great.

Britinme · 06/04/2025 18:53

If anybody wants to pm me their old GUT usernames I'm happy to pass greetings on.

FagsMagsandBags · 06/04/2025 21:13

Thank you, @Britinme . I think I will.

I am currently having an annoying sleep thing. I keep waking up talking to myself and generally "self-splaining" which is deeply annoying. I'm a bit shattered now but have to stay awake for about another hour to keep my slow release morphine "right".

I spent time with Impedimenta today, I don't know if that's still her other place name and must ask her at some point. We were friends for decades before GU. Currently we're all in a marvel about the weather which might be dreadfully British but the weather currently is quite remarkable and it would be easy to think we were midway through May and miles away from blustery April and yet here we are! Oh and definitely not complaining! I had snow on my birthday one upon an April of years past. This false spring is a gift we all deserve to enjoy.

FagsMagsandBags · 07/04/2025 00:26

I made it! I had a bit of the fear that 60 would evade me but it didn't and here I am, 60 years old and awaiting my sloth experience! This is in all probability my last birthday and it's going to be a bloody good one!

NoBinturongsHereMate · 07/04/2025 00:45

Happy Sloth Day!

And turning 60 day, as well.

I'm hoping for a full report on the sloths, including smell. I've been pretty close to some, but separated by glass so missed the olfactory side of the experience.

moto748e · 07/04/2025 01:16

Happy Sloth Day, FMG!

Britinme · 07/04/2025 03:32

I’m looking forward to hearing about the sloths in glorious detail!

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 07/04/2025 07:26

Happy Sloth Day, Fags, take lots of pictures!

DeanElderberry · 07/04/2025 07:39

Happy sloth day

DeanElderberry · 07/04/2025 07:41

VERY Happy sloth day!

weaselyeyes · 07/04/2025 09:33

Happy birthday slothing, FMG! Hope you have a splendid sloth-full day

Gonners · 07/04/2025 10:13

Happy Slothful Birthday, @FagsMagsandBags!

FagsMagsandBags · 07/04/2025 10:24

Thank you all! I got card from my upstair's neighbours that says "Capy Birthday" because it will be a capybara's turn to get fed by me on Thursday.

And it's another beautiful day out there!

FagsMagsandBags · 07/04/2025 10:46

Currently listening to a spotify playlist sent my a friend - it's the 1980s and we're in the sixth form common room! - and deciding what fun to have with my face today as I prepare to get ready to meet the Sloths!
