Thread 17 - TalkLair: "Okay, first of all, what's with the outfit? Live in the now, okay? You look like DeBarge."

(Previous thread 16).

Spring is springing, daffodils blooming all over our LairGarden, which have not all been picked by a neighbour's kid...

In the TalkLair, the hearth is glowing, books by non-approved authors line the shelves, cosy rugs are down on the floors looking a bit stained by cat hairball regurgitation. The denizens of the lair are a welcoming bunch though, always eager for general chit-chat on all manner of topics. We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

Hello! I fell off the thread a while back (following the Sandie Peggie tribunal was a full-time job!) but now I've found you all.

Just to say, if anyone's following the Aggrieved thread (and if you're not, at least read the "manifesto" because it's FUCKING HILARIOUS), there was an entertaining incursion on the Thread of Evil in the old place. Starts at post 5206 if you want to check it out.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 25/04/2025 21:45

I know what you mean about full time job. I'd just recovered from Sandie Peggie when the Supreme Court threads started so I'm also a bit behind here.

I hope MrGonners retained his airy cubicle with a window - a jewel without price in the NHS. And I very much look forward to Francis pics.

Happy World Penguin Day.

Thanks all, for the support. MrG was discharged yesterday evening - probably opportunistically because I happened to be there at the time and they wanted to free up the bed. Fair enough, bearing in mind that there were people waiting for beds who are much more physically ill, plus he performs beautifully for the medics! He has a shitload of new meds + a brand new today, sparkling UTI (which may sort itself out given the quantities of antibiotics, but I know better than to be optimistic) and is utterly bonkers when dealing with me.

I got him on Skype with his younger son (in Canada) and they chatted for a few minutes. I eavesdropped, because you have to. Again, he performed well. But immediately after the call he had absolutely no idea what they'd talked about, even though it included an enthusiastic (for him, these days) response to his much-loved son saying he would come and visit very soon.

I actually wonder if I am so much his "safe space" that he might do better, cognitively, without me?

<on edit> TLDR ... just venting!

NoBinturongsHereMate · 25/04/2025 22:49

Ah, showtime. An infuriating phenomenon.

Britinme · 26/04/2025 03:44

So frustrating @Gonners. Sympathies.

I wish I hadn't gone and looked at the Old Place, because I feel like I need a shower. In boiling water. With carbolic soap. Followed by an acid rinse.

It's not just that weirdo turning up, but the instant sycophantic performative arse-kissing from the clever-clever you-know-who. Who I gathered had been missing for ages but reappeared specifically to virtue-signal and polish his knob halo, because of the SC ruling. Plus all the other virtue-signalling halo-polishing TRSOH bros. A circle-jerk of misogynistic creeps. I remembered why I left, a big part of it being that particular poster, and the dawning realisation that the women in the chat (both the disobedient ones and the good girls) were the equivalent of the dirty magazine and KY jelly for his posturing performative word-twisting pseudo-intellectual-masturbation. Grotesque.

I hope that weirdo stays there amongst his new-found pals; he'd fit right in.

Apologies and also respect for those of you still sticking at it.

(BTW should somebody warn the Aggrieved thread that the weirdo has boasted of collecting 17000 TERFS using his link?!)

I haven't looked and it sounds as though I'm missing nothing.

DeanElderberry · 26/04/2025 08:06

There is a very strong commitment to a culture of schoolyard-type mobbing dissidents. I know there are corners where people keep themselves to themselves and interact in a friendly manner, but the bully boys and their pick-mes police any general conversation and stamp on any signs of civility.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 26/04/2025 08:12

I haven't looked either and haven't been there since I logged out however long ago it was, but can just imagine the sort of pomposity going on.

moto748e · 26/04/2025 11:30

Same. Not really interested, and no wish to give it further bandwidth.

But I see also mention of the Old Place on the Sarah Jane Baker thread this morning. Is this about the same thing or something different? Just coincidence?

Britinme · 26/04/2025 13:37

DH still goes there but keeps to the Leaf Peeping thread and the Trumpocalypse threads mainly.

RasaSayangEh · 26/04/2025 18:26

Alarming events near our place this PM! Armed attacker shot multiple people with a crossbow. Some videos on social media indicate that the attacker stashed his collection of weapons (including some things that look like rifles) at a park less than a quarter of a mile from our house before setting out on his rampage - the footage shows various weapony looking things and their carrying cases strewn under a cherry tree that we walk past almost every day.

OP posts:
SqueakyDinosaur · 26/04/2025 20:29

Yikes! There's something going on round here as well (W London) but no idea what - loads of police cars both marked and unmarked with their blues and twos on...

Gonners · 26/04/2025 20:33

Shit, @RasaSayangEh ... I just saw that story on the BBC news homepage. I imagine you won't be walking that way tomorrow. That quantity of weaponry sounds like a madman. At least they've caught him.

weaselyeyes · 26/04/2025 20:36

God, that sounds terrifying!

RasaSayangEh · 26/04/2025 21:18

If Facebook is correct, beforehand the perp (supposedly a Tate-type incel) had actually posted his plans complete with photos of each of his weapons. Then just before he started his rampage, he posted a photo of the first location. We're all very creeped out because the most likely pedestrian route from his weapons cache to that location goes almost right past our street.

All this time in Leeds and you've never seen the Rhinos, Kuc? You're practically on their doorstep! 😄

Not interested in the rugby, sorry Grin but we go to the women's cricket in the same stadium fairly often.

OP posts:
moto748e · 26/04/2025 21:38

Well, I'm biased, obviously, but I think it's far and away the most exciting spectator sport, certainly much more so than rugby union or football. I've often thought about going to a Test match at Headingley or Old Trafford, but have never got round to it so far.

moto748e · 26/04/2025 21:40

But I remember Otley Road from coach trips to the stadium.

RasaSayangEh · 26/04/2025 22:23

The police helicopter has been buzzing overhead for the last 15 minutes and it is freaking me out. They arrested the guy earlier today, didn’t they?

moto748e · 27/04/2025 00:03

For sure; it's no joke when the TV news is on your own doorstep.

FagsMagsandBags · 27/04/2025 00:11

That sounds awful, @RasaSayangEh . I did a thanks for sharing reaction though I think they need a shocked face on that list.

FagsMagsandBags · 27/04/2025 00:23

I've sort of had a few nothing days but full of loveliness and Thursday was B and I nattering just how we like.

Today Snoop had found a wheelchair that was shite but got us to a scooter and wheelchair place nearby where they don't rent electric stuff. Bah! They have the perfect used one though so Snoop says crowd funding which she can't do, but hopefully B will start and I'll share. I can walk but not far snd a wee bit of independence would be great. I now only wear fabulous clothes out and great make up so I get compliments which I love. It was sunny, we were warm and laughing, my living funeral is next Sunday and all is going well. I forgot how good I am at project management. I was going to say this sort of thing but this is a very new sort of thing. I'm loving it!

Francis is not my cat any longer. He's truly settled in his new home and I am so grateful and happy for him.

I watched some of the funeral today, missed the beginning or would have watched it all. It was beautiful and the addition of prisoners, migrants, the poor, homeless, torture victims, made me happy and I hope the homily made certain/many world leaders uncomfortable even though they'll have forgotten it already. He left as he arrived and I hope the next Pope continues and also improves on his work.
