So if you made a veggie cottage pie on Sunday gone…

…would you heat it up and eat it for lunch today?

Obviously been in the fridge (at the back - hence forgotten!).

Has quorn mince, onions, carrots, chopped tomatoes and a cauliflower and cheese topping if that makes any difference Grin

I would. As long as it’s thoroughly heated through.

AlisonDonut · 21/03/2025 08:54

I'd probably heat it but in a pan so that I could smell it as it cooked, and then add fresh gravy over the top. Like a big old mish mash.

faerietales · 21/03/2025 09:09

Nope.

I'd personally give it a sniff test, the bit if expect to be dubious first would be the cauliflower. If it was spud it would probably be alright

Robynroo · 21/03/2025 09:14

Nope

Coffeeishot · 21/03/2025 09:15

No just bin it.

LittleBigHead · 21/03/2025 09:17

Of course! But I’d re-cook it thoroughly.

People need to trust their skills a bit more - look and smell - does it look ok? Does it smell ok?

Endlessdogbowlsandbones · 21/03/2025 09:17

No. Usually go by the three day rule for reheating things. So if you made it on Sunday, I would reheat and eat up until Wednesday evening. Prefer to freeze to extend life of things after that, but freeze on first night ifyswim.

Edit: only exception to that would be rice which I only reheat next day (having cooled it down rapidly and reheated it thoroughly) but then bin after that.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 21/03/2025 09:54

I'm a fan of freezing and reheating but I wouldn't eat something that's been in the fridge for that long x

Mydogisamassivetwat · 21/03/2025 09:56

No. It’s 3 days max for me.

MidnightPatrol · 21/03/2025 09:57

No - and I think I’m pretty relaxed on food hygiene.

3 days is fine, 5 is not

FrenchandSaunders · 21/03/2025 09:57

Not sure about the quorn ... if it was just veggies then fine.

I agree people need to use their nose rather than ask on here.

Saying that, I wouldn’t and I do hate food waste and have an iron gut. But I wouldn’t eat soggy week old stinky cauliflower or anything with quorn in it. Ugh.

MumChp · 21/03/2025 10:01

No.

Fairyvocals · 21/03/2025 10:05

No. Three days is my limit.

DazzyRascale · 21/03/2025 12:25

Thanks all. Just got it out and it smells totally fine. Still pondering…

I would

MrsMitford3 · 21/03/2025 12:28

I would.
We are very cavalier about re-heating but it is because I have the nose of a bloodhound so I feel safe once it has passed the sniff test.

DH uses me to sniff various things he is hesitant about 😂

Coffeeishot · 21/03/2025 12:29

Cooked quorn is 48 hours according to the Internet, I wouldn't.

TomatoSandwiches · 21/03/2025 12:30

I wouldn't

BellissimoGecko · 21/03/2025 12:30

Nope.

But you can’t smell the bacteria that cause food poisoning… 😬🙄

MrsSkylerWhite · 21/03/2025 12:34

Give it a good sniff. If it smells fine, give it a good blast and enjoy.

Iloveanicegarden · 21/03/2025 12:35

Ready meals have a longish shelf life following extensive testing to look for spoilage. They are usually partially cooked to allow the consumer to complete cooking. Having said that I would be dubious about this cos cauliflower is one stinky ingredient

Cabbagefamily · 21/03/2025 12:39

I would.
