Help! Is anyone else addicted to Vinted?! (Light-hearted)

Was carrying so much extra weight for so many years and had lost interest in clothes which I had loved in the past. Now thanks to WLI I am enjoying clothes again... But am enjoying them too much! Have rediscovered lovely clothes in my wardrobe and have recently discovered Vinted. Started off well, selling larger clothes...and then I started buying. And buying. And buying!!!

So many bargains, paying a fraction of the cost of buying from the shop. I cannot stop!!!

Anyone else?!!

💯 does anyone know of a 12 step program?

SilenceInside · 20/03/2025 15:39

I've recently started selling on Vinted, having sold lots on eBay in the past. The Vinted process is a lot simpler, there are less options because it's not an auction. I have found it overall better than eBay for selling, and I have also started to buy.... a dangerous habit!

MissyB1 · 20/03/2025 15:40

Searchingforthelight · 20/03/2025 15:38

Did you resell them then?
I guess footwear is riskier than clothes sizing...

I'm horribly lazy about selling, they are going to the charity shop.

I could have written your post, I've went from size 18 to 10/12 and I'm addicted to clothes 🤣 charity shops too, I can actually get the nice stuff now and there's so many nice things.
I justified it by selling all my bigger stuff, but it's got beyond that now!

How much have you lost? I've lost 5 stone on Mounjaro in the past year, at my goal weight and loving life.

Oh this so good to read! I'm on week 5 of Mounjaro and I have 5 stone to lose. I also used to love clothes. I've spent the last decade in jeans and hoodies, I'm very much looking forward to being able to wear nice stuff again.

Totally!
I started by selling.... And then they buying started... And the 'but it's too good a bargain to leave it' ...

I find the selling is easier than eBay, but a house of clutter while waiting for things to sell is something else to think of ..

Oh you'll be just thrilled with the clothes very soon!
I started 5 months ago... It's changed my life so much, and clothes are a joy again

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 20/03/2025 15:50

Bloody place is my achilles 🤦.
I've been away from it for a few months but downloaded the app again on Tuesday night and am already nearly £80 down. Admittedly 90% were bnwt items bought as gifts but still...

That's marvellous, such items cost a fortune new

Good to hear there are more of us Vint-addicts!!

Such bargains to get a stack of items for the cost of one in the shops!

Great for quality. Thanks to Vinted all my clothes are now natural fabrics : wool, silk, cashmere. No polyester or plastic fabrics in sight! And they all fit better due to better tailoring especially from clothes which were so better made a few years or even decades ago.
I can’t bear all the current mass market high street made in China low quality now.

How are you finding these? I’m trying my best, but feel like my life is messaging people to ask for a picture of the care tag, and invariably everything listed as silk is actually satin polyester or listed as wool is just wool-like acrylic!

And a mega endorphin rush. Some fools have to run a marathon to achieve the same thing!

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 20/03/2025 16:13

I sell quite a bit but don’t really buy because I never seem to find the amazing bargains that others do.

Definitelylivedin · 20/03/2025 16:33

I pretty much buy everything off Vinted these days. I'm very care about brands though. I only buy good brands that I could never afford new. And I'm careful about checking photos and reviews.

I limit myself by setting a budget each month and putting that in a separate account.

i search by brand a lot - brands that I know sell 100% cotton, wool etc. And most sellers tend to include a photo of the label. But if not yes I do take the time to ask for it, to be sure! Quite a few are described as silk but actually just “silky” polyester. I like the hunt though. Had some lovely second hand cashmere and a gorgeous 100% wool jacket. Lots of silk t shirts too (try searching for Reiss)

PuppyMonkey · 20/03/2025 16:54

The “recommended for you” bit is lethal for me. It knows me so well. Grin

maltravers · 20/03/2025 17:08

It’s good for the environment to buy second hand rather than new - keep up the good work! 😇

ItisIbeserk · 20/03/2025 17:10

I have sold a lot of stuff on there and have had to stop buying things as it was getting out of control. I'm like a kid in a sweet shop.

I only buy things that show the care label for material, or are from a brand I trust to use decent material.

Summerhillsquare · 20/03/2025 17:41

Total addict. I find I wear my new things 2 or 3 times and if I'm not completely loving them, I resell. So it's my own personal dress agency but cheaper!

FeatherChops · 20/03/2025 18:34

Yes I buy a lot from there. I identify what I want and then go looking and pick it up on vinted for a fraction of the cost. And I was (I’m embarrassed to say) someone who wouldn’t previously shop second hand. No idea why

I’ve also lost some weight and am now a size 8 so needed to replace my entire wardrobe.

recent successes …

Whistles Agnes suede jacket . It’s a current collection item and is £295. I got it for £38 on vinted

cos wool coat - was £230 - got it on vinted for £15

comme de garçon Play converse - they’re £120. Got them for £12

Whistles denim dress. £75. Got it for a tenner

FeatherChops · 20/03/2025 18:39

Oh and how could I forget my recent jewellery! A 1913 pink tourmaline 18 ct gold ring for £150. And an 1860 18ct gold snake ring with diamonds and sapphire. That was pricier at £350 but it’s worth £££.

I collect antique jewellery so spend a lot of time searching for what I’m after and I’m careful to buy from 5 star sellers

Normallynumb · 20/03/2025 18:40

I love Vinted! I check daily for my favourite brand. Last week I replaced a top that went to the charity shop by mistake. Actually better condition than the one I lost!
I wait for tops to come up that I’ve wanted from the website but can’t afford
They always do.
i try to stick to “ one in, one out” now.

Moveoverdarlin · 20/03/2025 18:43

GordyMatthewson · 20/03/2025 14:49

I was slightly addicted. But then I had a bad run - incorrect sizes or right size but didn't fit or poor quality or labelled "new" but definitely not. It was really useful for weening me off Vinted 😅

I’m exactly the same. When I first discovered it I was buying and selling like mad. Then a few bad experiences which put me off.

I try and do the same but it seems to work out more like ten in, one out 🤦.
I love Next stuff but even though they are high street they are also really expensive these days so it's epic being able to buy their stuff in great quality but for a fraction of the RRP.
