If you had to spend £500 a month on non essential extras, what would you choose?

Inspired by a friend of a friend who has a very niace lifestyle. I’m just day dreaming, but I’d choose

monthly car valet
weekly cleaner
mani and pedicure every two weeks
hair blow dry weekly

Anyone anything else? Not essentials or utilities etc. This is just extra stuff that would make your life so much easier and, well, nice!

Reflexology and massages

VerySkilledFirefighter · 15/03/2025 21:45

My last promotion gave me this and I splurged on:

Cleaner/gardener each fortnightly
Nails every three weeks
Hair appt every three months for cut and colour…
Monthly massage
A customised skin care routine that costs £150 every few months, plus £40 once a year for a check on appt with my dermatologist

I don’t have time for a blow dry every week, or some of the other things mentioned.

I tried some of the things that PPs have mentioned and they just weren’t for me - I was so excited at my last big promotion to get various subscription boxes etc, but it ended up so wasteful as most of the stuff didn’t get used. But I do have a lot of digital subscriptions (Apple Music, YouTube Premium, Audible, Kindle Unlimited, a few add on channels to Amazon Prime etc).

Serencwtch · 15/03/2025 21:52

I already do. I've got 2 horses 😂

I'm not well off either - I'm a supermarket duty manager not far off minimum wage.

Glitchymn1 · 15/03/2025 21:54

Yet another furry companion (screw the vet bills) … I’ll see myself out.

Dontsayyouloveme · 15/03/2025 21:57

Meal out once a week
facial every month
deep tissue massage a month
LVL every 2 months

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 15/03/2025 23:38

OMG what I wouldn’t do for a cleaner. I hate cleaning with a passion! And horse riding lessons. Anything else would go towards holidays.

We were meant to be £300 a month better off from August last year and I was going to get a cleaner but that same week DH got a letter saying his tax was going up… by £300 a month… thanks to the company car that he has to have 🙈.

Devianinc · 15/03/2025 23:52

Save it all up until you can buy something great that you really want. Stop buying cheap tat and just keep sockiing your money away.

DrCoconut · 16/03/2025 00:14

Cleaner, money for holidays, tickets to concerts etc, more meals out at nice places that cater for my dietary needs, clothes and shoes that are just nice to have rather than needed. Possibly a gym membership or personal trainer too.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 16/03/2025 00:18

For me it would be…
personal trainer
Eating out a bit more

That would probably eat up the £500 easily enough!

MedusaAndHerFavourites · 16/03/2025 07:11

Yoga classes
Theatre
Restaurants

CalicoPusscat · 16/03/2025 07:15

Spa gym and boat trips

DustyLee123 · 16/03/2025 07:16

Cleaner, chef and gardener

Steeleywheely · 16/03/2025 07:20

Cleaner definitely. I’d like someone to do a meal plan, I’d have it delivered and they come and prep once a week so it’s all done. I absolutely hate the weekly food shop and deciding what’s for tea. Of, I could just order Hello Fresh I suppose.

Who irons bedding???

My dry cleaner

ShriekingTrespasser · 16/03/2025 07:30

Monthly facial and massage.
Taking dc out for trips away

GameOfJones · 16/03/2025 07:30

Definitely a weekly cleaner. We do have a cleaner that comes every other week but I'd love for her to come weekly. She does a proper deep clean so we can just focus on giving things a quick wipe down and keeping on top of it in the meantime. That would cost us £180 a month.

I'd spend a decent amount of money on good quality ready meals from the farm shop or Cook for busy nights when I can't be bothered cooking.

Any extra I'd have a monthly babysitter and a date night with DH.

BreatheAndFocus · 16/03/2025 07:50

Gardener - that would be fabulous!
Car valeting
Wine club with monthly deliveries or similar and/or food prep
Cinema
Taxis
Memberships of leisure centre, National Trust, English Heritage, etc
Regular nice quality cosmetics and skincare
Sponsorship - children abroad, guide dogs, cats, etc
Regular donations to charities each month

Fizbosshoes · 16/03/2025 07:58

Stinkbomb · 15/03/2025 17:38

Who irons bedding???

I do!
That would probably be my luxury out of the list - to pay someone to do it (I wonder if they could make the bed as well...? 🤣)

RaininSummer · 16/03/2025 08:04

A gardener regularly, a cleaner, an occasional chauffeur. Gig ticket and then better food items and beautiful yarms for my crochet.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/03/2025 08:26

2chocolateoranges · 15/03/2025 17:02

People iron their bedding? I’ve never ironed bedding ……ever!

id pay for :
monthly valet
weekly cleaner
manicure monthly
a PT who comes to the house.

I iron pillowcases for guests, but that’s it.

Twinkletoes10 · 16/03/2025 08:36

I would buy some new gins to try (instead of whichever is cheapest!) and some different and new flavours for my soda stream.

I'd start getting my nails, brows and hair done monthly.

Travel somewhere new every month!

Buy some lovely new clothes each month

I'd also put away something for a new car & phone!

SomethingFun · 16/03/2025 08:50

A personal trainer at least weekly and anything left to go into a non invasive face procedure pot. I’d like a gardener but my garden is awful and needs completely redoing so it would be a waste trying to maintain it nicely at the moment.

Amotherlife · 16/03/2025 08:54

Nothing special. I already have spare money most months as we've now paid off our mortgage, our children have jobs, so we don't spend much on them and I've had a recent pay rise. It either goes towards holidays or savings, depending on how you look at things.

I dislike sitting for hours having my hair done so I'm happy to get a cut and blow dry every 3 months and full colour twice a year.

I've no interest in getting my nails done. I've just admire my daughters' nails that they pay for.

Massages are nice but I'm not bothered about having them regularly.

I already go to the theatre a few times a year, and could afford to go more often.

I'm against buying new clothes for the sake of it - I buy them if needed but otherwise it's a waste and contributing to global warming.

I have managed thus far without a cleaner or gardener - maybe I could go for one or both of those, but I actually like gardening. Just need to prioritise it more. I don't work full time, so I do have the time theoretically.

I belong to a relatively cheap gym where all classes are included in the subscription.

So if anyone wants to give me £500 extra a month, it'll just go into the pot.

I guess my main interest is travelling / visiting new places, so it might get spent on that.

dothehokeycokey · 16/03/2025 09:06

Massage a month
facial
gel polish
car valet
good meal out somewhere posh
food prep definitely

NiceProblems · 16/03/2025 11:30

weekend city breaks, visit somewhere new every month.
