If you had to spend £500 a month on non essential extras, what would you choose?

Inspired by a friend of a friend who has a very niace lifestyle. I’m just day dreaming, but I’d choose

monthly car valet
weekly cleaner
mani and pedicure every two weeks
hair blow dry weekly

Anyone anything else? Not essentials or utilities etc. This is just extra stuff that would make your life so much easier and, well, nice!

Fun fitness classes
A car, which I’d pay for monthly.
Meals out monthly
I’d like to be able to afford a particular trip that DH would like.

Kittkats · 15/03/2025 18:22

I’d put most towards holidays or weekends away.
Then little treats: nice moisturiser, new cushions and throws for the lounge, hair dye, a good book, my favourite perfume, occasionally a new top or whatever, nice bubble bath. At the moment I only get things like that on birthdays/ Christmas/ Mother’s Day.

Probably divide it up to 5 Animal Rescue charities

As if!

Ritzybitzy · 15/03/2025 18:45

Clothes. Eying a load of stuff on me+em so would probably blow it on that.

I do the other stuff people list already as really I have more disposable income than that anyway.

stayathomer · 15/03/2025 18:48

Hair is falling apart (and out sadly) at the mo so I’d have to get to a hairdressers, after that cleaner and after reading the dog poo thread this morning a person to clean out my bins, then car valet. I think they’d be once offs though, I don’t think I could ever justify doing any regularly! Oh, plus I’d send the kids to some random classes to see if they’d like them!

A few hours each month of

Singing lessons
A stylist / wardrobe organiser
A house organiser
A personal trainer

Basically hire people who can make up for my lack of skills and motivation

Plus a bottle of my favourite wine each month

Singing lessons are a good shout.

I would love a cleaner, ideally twice weekly, but I struggle to trust a stranger in my home unsupervised, and struggle to trust they'd do a better or equally good job as I can. I hate it, but I'm very good at it. I keep saying I'll get someone in when I'm older!

minnienono · 15/03/2025 20:13

I have 3 weekly nails, 6 weekly pedicures already but I would like a cleaner and an at home valet service. We already eat the it etc whenever we want Blush

Kittkats · 15/03/2025 20:14

Also: gym membership and buying a couple of extra days annual leave from work!

Iambouddicca · 15/03/2025 20:14

A horse

elastamum · 15/03/2025 20:17

My horse. But I already do this, they are stupidly expensive.

evtheria · 15/03/2025 20:20

A cleaner, once a week for 2-3hrs

Ballet class, 2x weekly (would be £80pm)

Maybe some sort of skincare appointment monthly...? Never had one but sure there's a facial to suit me!

Standing order to my local cat rescue

Apple One subscription

If I lived in London I'd definitely go to the theatre or a music gig (could be small, indie ones!) each month.

ladygindiva · 15/03/2025 20:23

More theatre trips, more general days out to kids events etc. For sure.

Tomatotater · 15/03/2025 20:26

Definitely cleaner weekly at least.
I'd also join a really posh gym that has a lovely jacuzzi and a treatment room for massages. And a meal service.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 15/03/2025 20:41

A cleaner would be very nice and worth their weight in gold if they could deal with my house for me! I have a messy job, a garden that turns into a mud pit in the autumn and winter, dogs (one likes to dig, as a bonus) and my house is an absolute dust magnet. As I live rurally, I also get the outside trying to move in. Mice in the walls, anyone? Bonus points to the one that didn't manage to electrocute itself in my fuse-box...

I would also appreciate a handy-person to do jobs around the house for me, like the painting that I have no motivation to do when I'm off work, or electrical jobs that I have no experience with.

If I lived less rurally, I would go back to regular theatre and trips to the pictures.

tillyandmilly · 15/03/2025 20:45

Lease a really nice upmarket car instead of the basic car lease we have! Also to be able to eat out at a nice restaurant once a month! One can only dream of having that much extra per month! Sigh…..

Scutterbug · 15/03/2025 20:47

Weight loss jabs and a cleaner. Any left maybe a gardener.

ladymammalade · 15/03/2025 20:50

Cleaner, gardener and personal trainer. Wouldn’t have thought of car valet but if there’s any money left I’ll have one of those as well.

Mossstitch · 15/03/2025 21:14

Definitely a cleaner.......I hate cleaning!!!
Outside of car cleaned.
Membership to private swimming pool as local council one closed years back and still waiting for the new one they promised🙄

Lentilweaver · 15/03/2025 21:16

Would spend all of it on travel and the theatre.

Moier · 15/03/2025 21:27

I already do.
Well more.. l have a carer/ cleaner.
Gardener.
Hair every month.
Massage weekly.
Therapist ( psychiatric practitioner) weekly.
Facial weekly.
Manicure and pedicure weekly.
Pool man comes every 3 days to maintain my pool.
Every 6 weeks l fly abroad.. either to my villa in the Canaries or somewhere else for the sun.
All paid for by me.
New wheelchair coming next week .
Can't wait for it.

MarchHare339 · 15/03/2025 21:31

Cleaner
personal trainer
massage, acupuncture
facials
car valet
someone to do all the cooking!!! (Wouldn’t be enough money for that though)

LSGXX · 15/03/2025 21:34

One really fab family (six of us) treat day out, once a month. Eg train tickets to London, see an exhibition, lunch in a nice restaurant.
