I'm 30 and falling apart

TooManyAnimals94 · 14/03/2025 22:15

I can't drink anymore without a stinking hangover.
I look at cake and put on weight.
Can't enjoy a nice meal out without indigestion.
Tired by 9pm.
Need to put make up on everyday or I look like an albino mole.

What the hell happened??

Welcome to being an adult!

MeganM3 · 14/03/2025 23:35

Are you getting much exercise? How is your general health? This sounds a bit premature to me.

Mademetoxic · 14/03/2025 23:40

I'm 33 and nothing like that ! It's your mindset :)

Mind you I do not drink, I get plenty of exercise and eat (fairly) healthy.

I think I look quite old now. Combination of stress and lifestyle and I have eye bags at present!

Need some cucumber slices :)

I'm older than you mind. Just start with the basics like more water, gentle walks, more vegetables

MuckFusk · 15/03/2025 02:02

Have you been ill at all?

MuckFusk · 15/03/2025 02:05

It actually is helpful. It's just your mindset. ;-)

I'm with you on that.

Welcome to the rest of your life!

TooManyAnimals94 · 15/03/2025 07:09

I think it is a bit of a mindset at the moment. I feel like I've had some kind of cold ALL winter. I'm sick of all my clothes and I just feel fat an frumpy.

Went from a very active, outdoor job to a much more sedentary one last year and it's really not helped.

I exercise but not as much as I could!
Started intermittent fasting and definitely feeling some benefit but I just hate having to think about all this stuff!

I used to eat what I want, stay up as late as I want and feel fine!

Also single parent to a 3 year old so finding time to look after me is a bit of a challenge.

Get your vitamin levels checked.
I get like this when I allow anaemia to take hold and need b12 shots.

Orangesinthebag · 15/03/2025 07:46

Get more exercise, drink water & eat well because that will definitely make you feel better.

But also just enjoy being 30! You're still so young.

That’s the problem! It’s not that you are thirty … it’s that you have a three year old! And they’re exhausting!!
…. it does get better … but you have to look after you as much as you look after the three year old!

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 15/03/2025 12:28

It’s called getting older 🤣

I have to put way more effort into my appearance as I get older including regular exercise and a largely unprocessed food diet.

alexdgr8 · 15/03/2025 12:29

I think not drinking alcohol would help you.
Give it a try.
Good luck.

britnay · 15/03/2025 12:39

I would suggest getting a blood test. Mostly looking at iron levels, b-vit levels, and thyroid hormone levels.

Jk987 · 15/03/2025 12:39

Albino mole made me chuckle. You've got your sense of humour still!

I don't believe ill health, aches and pains are inevitable as you get older. You're still in your youth anyway!

Some lifestyle changes might be needed which could give dramatic improvements. Exercise, vitamins doing more things you enjoy. Do you need to switch jobs? Spend more time with friends? All is not lost, you can turn this around!

glittereyelash · 15/03/2025 13:44

Yeah this aging business is garbage. You just need to make some changes and it will slowly get easier. Having a three year old will be a huge part of your exhaustion. I had to overhaul my diet, stop getting takeaways, start taking vitamins, exercise more regularly and make sure I was getting enough sleep. Still don't have the energy I had in my 20s but I resemble a functioning human.

Totally agree with this and if they're anywhere near the NHS acceptable levels assume they're probably still a bit low.

WorthyBlueHare · 15/03/2025 15:47

Might want to see a GP, get some tests, thyroid etc. but also just check your lifestyle. You need sleep, water, vegetables, skincare, exercise, downtime… are you getting enough? Sometimes it is the extra pressure in the thirties causing these symptoms.

BrickSnail · 15/03/2025 19:04

It's definitely the 3 year old. I have one and I'm absolutely frazzled

Cerialkiller · 15/03/2025 19:13

Agree with this. Once I crawled out of the hole of baby raising I looked in the mirror and realised I had aged about 10years and felt it too. My skin and hair were wreaked and I was 20lb heavier.

Slowly getting myself back together. Skin treatment, new hair cut, started dyeing my hair, losing the weight is hard. Done of it is just normal aging though.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 15/03/2025 19:45

I think that it is the side-effects of adulting. Wait until you start doing things like admiring tea towels and Bags for Life, or looking forward to going to bed and realise that it is 7.30. Then you remember that your primary school-self used to whine about being forced to go to bed so early.

I do like the phrase 'albino mole', though!

Octopus45 · 15/03/2025 19:54

Sounds as if you’re in the thick of it with a child. Can recommend the following:

Magnesium and Vitamin D (with K2) supplements.
Intermittent fasting
Youtube workouts (Get Fit with Rick)
Lots of water
Walking
No recommendations on the make up front. I too look like an Albino mole without make up. I am now 50, but was the same at 30. Also maybe get your bloods done to check thyroid, hormones, iron, vitamin D

thislifer · 15/03/2025 20:16

It’s the being a single parent of a small child that does it…nothing like boring responsibilities and stress to age you before your time. But you’ll get a chance at a second youth once they get to late teens if you can hang on that long….

Lyney · 16/03/2025 08:33

I was in a state about 5 years ago. Exhausted and very pale. I didn’t look well. I wasn’t looking after myself in terms of diet but also side effects of medication were preventing me from absorbing nutrients and my thyroid became underactive. I started researching supplements / vitamins and having vitamin D and B12 injections privately. Got my thyroid back to normal and feel great now. People keep commenting on how well I look. Like a previous commentator said, get some vitamin tests - GP should do that / improve your diet / try to find time to exercise. Look at British Supplements website. It’s a minefield knowing what to take but these were recommended to me by a medical professional
