Do people Really pay for people to Sort their cupboards?

I have been seeing posts on Facebook where people have paid for someone to come and tidy their cupboards.
Is this really a thing. I just can’t understand this it would literally take you a hour or two.
Also what is the point if you just mess it up again? If you ( or family) are the sort to just chuck everything in it will literally last a day.
someone has posted a picture on Facebook of their cutlery draw being arranged so the cutlery is on its side in rows. I mean why would you pay for this? Why would you post before and after pictures of your cupboards.i just don’t understand!

Yes!

WonkyDonkeyWonkeyDonkey · 09/03/2025 20:06

Of course they do. Some people can't do it and some people don't want to do it.

You could say that about anything.
Why pay for someone to cut your hair when it will just grow?

People put all sorts of nonsense on their social media. Like unpacking a new kettle. My nephew revised for his A levels to videos of other people revising.Confused

Partybaggage · 09/03/2025 20:07

Believe it or not, some people have disabilities which make tasks like this (sorting/tidying/decluttering) very difficult.

JoyousEagle · 09/03/2025 20:07

I think some people are time poor and cash rich, so the cost is probably relatively small to them, with a big benefit.

I think some other people get overwhelmed by clutter, don't know where to start, and just want someone to make it go away.

TartanMammy · 09/03/2025 20:09

The one that pops up on my Facebook I struggle to see the difference between the before and after photos. I have no idea who would pay for that particular service.

I love organising and I'd love to sort people's cupboards for a living. But I doubt it would pay enough.

Doggymummar · 09/03/2025 20:10

I'm just about to pay someone a lot of money to tidy my garden. I hate doing it so it's money well spent. I can do my own cupboards and that's a bit personal to my mind

Sheldonsheher · 09/03/2025 20:10

I can understand if they were a hoarder with mental health issues.

But this seems to people with slightly disorganised kitchen grocery cupboards or messy kids wardrobe. Probably cheaper to just bin all the food. Buy more as you need it. Also who cares what your kitchen groceries look like do they need to be colour coded and aligned perfectly?

People have had housekeepers and cleaners for centuries. What planet are you on?

Krop · 09/03/2025 20:16

I don't see why it's any different to people having a cleaner.

Nobody is being hurt in these scenarios so I don't really see the problem.

Because someone could have a problem with having too much stuff, and feeling overwhelmed without their house being literally stuffed to the brim.

People have cleaners and gardeners. How's this different? All are completely unnecessary right? Just do it yourself, it's easy.

HouseAshamed · 09/03/2025 20:19

It's literally a thing, @Sheldonsheher .

Patagonianpenguin · 09/03/2025 20:20

There's someone near me who does this and I have friends who have used the service. It's more like mari kondo-ing though than just tidying the cupboards. They have a lot of disposable income but not much time and are not people who donate as they go (also, lots of storage space) so they are happy to pay someone to come and tidy/organise/help them get rid of stiff. It is hard to get this stuff done yourself if you work in a full on job and have family etc, and of they pay a nanny/cleaner etc why not this. If it paid enough I would love this as a job - I love a clear out! A couple of times when we've had a skip for building work I'm in heaven.

Sheldonsheher · 09/03/2025 20:23

To me a cleaner and gardener is understandable, as they would come at intervals to do the jobs that need doing repeatedly.

. But a organiser coming once … what is the literal point if you are the sort of person who cannot organise it will be disorganised again pretty quickly. Also describing your self as a life organiser or some such grand title? Well I don’t understand how it is a thing!

Yes I am that person it’s always been a hobby but now I monetize it ! So much fun

Changingplace · 09/03/2025 20:26

I can totally understand people using this type of service, it’s an extension of having a cleaner really isn’t it?

What would you even call this type of service if you were looking for someone??

EmmasDilemmas · 09/03/2025 20:26

I’ve started paying a professional declutterer a couple of times a year to come in and do things like go though my kids wardrobes and sort out everything that’s outgrown. She’s brilliant. And yes; I can absolutely do it myself but I’m really time poor and having somebody else do it for me means I can use the time for something else. She is much quicker than I am too and it always looks super tidy and organised afterwards.

Zeitumschaltung · 09/03/2025 20:26

They aren’t selling organising services, they are selling the dream of being an effortlessly tidy and organised person

Diningtableornot · 09/03/2025 20:26

It makes a lot of sense for people with hoarding tendencies who can’t face the size of task. Otherwise it’s better to do your own every few months. Doesn’t take that long and is quite satisfying.

Is that what you’d search for locally? A professional decluttering service?

CandyCane457 · 09/03/2025 20:30

Yep, three years ago I paid for someone to tidy up my kitchen cupboards and arrange my wardrobe (a big, walk in one) in colour order and I love it- it’s much easier for me to maintain order in the lichen cupboards, and my wardrobe is still perfectly colour coordinated three years on!

Yes that’s what the person I book calls herself. She advertises on Facebook pages mostly for local parents. She gets a lot of great reviews and repeat business as far as I can tell.

Adviceaftercolonoscopy · 09/03/2025 20:32

I wouldn’t do that because despite that they are untidy, I know where everything in my cupboards is. --remembers the cleaner who tidied me cupboards, cue power cut and being unable to find the torch and candles! However:

Clean and tidy the fridge
Clean the oven
Catch and take the cats to the vet
Cook for a supper party
Put up the Christmas.trees and decorate the house
Supermarket deliveries

Yes.

Sheldonsheher · 09/03/2025 20:33

I am quite time poor but I am also obviously too tight to pay for this!

also I kind of don’t like the idea of someone rummaging through my cupboards.

KnewYearKnewMe · 09/03/2025 20:37

I've had it done twice, about 18 months apart. First time, 5 hours, second time, a Friday and a Monday, to sort out two rooms and reorganise.

To me, worth every penny.
I work long hours, I'm excellent at my job, but organising clothes and cupboards is not something I'm excellent at,

I found it very therapeutic and my upstairs made me very happy for months after.

Needs doing again now of course!

Sheldonsheher · 09/03/2025 20:42

How much do you pay? I saw somewhere it is £35 to £60 a hour. I mean why could you just not bin everything save the money. Buy new stuff if needed? I don’t really get attached to stuff so I’m quite good at throwing stuff out!
