Swearing - the C word

Somethingthecatdraggedin7 · 04/03/2025 12:25

Do you use it? Is it misogynistic?
I had always avoided it but in recent times (awful things happening) have found it quite satisfying when other swear words don’t seem quite enough.
I do carefully police my use to a very small audience though either just when on my own ranting about various woes or iniquities to my cat, who is an excellent listener, or one close friend who is very feisty and loves a good swear as a stress buster.

I don't use it. It's not allowed in my house. Which is hypercritical as I do swear.

I know I'm in a minority in finding it degrading. I can't explain why, I just do.

ChaoticGremlin · 04/03/2025 12:32

It's my favourite swear word but we don't swear in the house and I barely swear anyway.

Alwaystired2023 · 04/03/2025 12:33

Yeah I use it in the same way as any other swear words it doesn't upset me

Isitafaultykitten · 04/03/2025 12:34

I've never really seen it as any worse than any other swearword. You obviously need to pick your audience, but I don't see an issue with it.

SallyWD · 04/03/2025 12:39

I don't use it. I'm not really a sweary person. I might jokingly say bloody this or that but I'm not someone who goes around f'ing and blinding. I rarely say "fuck" or "fucking". I don't say cunt because to me it sounds like the most harsh swear word. I don't see it as exceptionally misogynistic but it just sounds harsh and aggressive.

caramac04 · 04/03/2025 12:41

I’m on the fence. I don’t use it and don’t like to hear it used excessively.
However, if you look at the history of the word it wasn’t a degrading term.
I will try and find a link.

KittenPause · 04/03/2025 12:49

I don't use it

But I would use it if the situation called for it

Huckyfell · 04/03/2025 12:52

I would only use it whilst driving by myself and an ignorant driver winds me up

1983Louise · 04/03/2025 13:06

I don't use it, my favourite is bollocks, I think it sums up every situation perfectly..........

LastNightMyPJsSavedMyLife · 04/03/2025 13:20

I use it but not around sensitive ears (co workers) I find Bitch a worse word but people are happy to say it freely. My favourite is twat.

CarolinaInTheMorning · 04/03/2025 13:27

I would never use it. But I'm American. In the US, it is only used against women and it is deeply misogynistic. It's right up there with the "N" word on the offensiveness scale. In fact, I can count the number of times I have heard it spoken aloud on one hand with fingers left over.

beguilingeyes · 04/03/2025 13:27

I do use it, ususally when I'm alone. It's just such a satisfying word to say.
Also, I've got one. What am I supposed to call it?

bellinisurge · 04/03/2025 13:32

I don't use it. And I'm VERY sweary. Feels misogynistic to me

Ditto.

It's the one swear word I have never used and never will.

Would give my boys hell if they did in my hearing.

I don't know why I find it so offensive but I do

If you think about it though, it shouldn't be. Why is the slang word for female genitalia considered the worst of all swears when the likes of Dick and Cock are mild? Are men's bits less offensive than women's?

curious79 · 04/03/2025 13:43

everything else has become softened, minimised. There are just times when someone is a total c* and it's the only word that will do

LavenderBlue19 · 04/03/2025 13:43

I use it, but really only with my DP. We are quite sweary but never when our child is around and with a view to the company we're in.

I don't personally find it any worse than any other swear word but am aware others don't like it, so don't use it.

Pastit12 · 04/03/2025 13:47

No I swear like a trooper sometimes but it is one word I really can’t stand don’t know if that makes me a hypocrite or not. I just really hate anybody using it.

TheFormidableMrsC · 04/03/2025 13:59

It is a word that my friends and I use privately between ourselves, never in public, nor in front of the children, to describe our array of awful ex husbands. Because they are cunts.

IAmNeverThePerson · 04/03/2025 14:01

I am very sweary but don’t use it. I really don’t like it

SweetBaklava · 04/03/2025 14:03

I am sweary but I never use that word, I hate it.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 04/03/2025 15:12

Hate it.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 04/03/2025 15:31

It has been reclaimed by young women. They use it liberally. And good for them.

JoyousEagle · 04/03/2025 15:51

I use it reasonably often - not in situations where I might offend, I wouldn't say it at work, or in a shop where people might hear for example.

When I used to live with my best friend, we used it all the time.
