Swearing - the C word

Do you use it? Is it misogynistic?
I had always avoided it but in recent times (awful things happening) have found it quite satisfying when other swear words don’t seem quite enough.
I do carefully police my use to a very small audience though either just when on my own ranting about various woes or iniquities to my cat, who is an excellent listener, or one close friend who is very feisty and loves a good swear as a stress buster.

Ugly horrible misogynistic word. Would never ever use it and would think less of anyone that did.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/03/2025 07:02

I never use it. To me, it is misogynistic so I can’t understand why women who’d probably call themselves feminists, will use it. A term of extreme abuse that means female genitalia?

InWalksBarberalla · 05/03/2025 07:13

Not everyone considers it a term of extreme abuse though. Around here it's used between mates, just like dickhead is.

LovelyJubly12 · 05/03/2025 07:17

Since it describes female genitalia of course it’s misogynistic. I never use it and feel offended by it if Inhear it. I use a lot of other swear words though. I can’t understand why any woman would use it.

CurlewKate · 05/03/2025 07:30

Using "pearl clutching" to describe a measured valid opinion is not really a good look.

Natsku · 05/03/2025 07:35

I use it, there are some particularly good Finnish swears that incorporate it. Use it in English too. Obviously none of this around my children.

CurlewKate · 05/03/2025 08:33

And the faux wide eyed ingenuous "But it's exactly the same as dick or bollocks" can get in the bin too.

Off for a google….!

I've just seen the EBU is making Malta change the song. It had the Maltese word 'Kant' in it which means singing but they were singing 'serving kant' sounding exactly like 'serving cunt' (and clearly 'serving singing' isn't a thing ).
I was pretty surprised it won the Maltese competition - Malta used to be a lot more conservative!

IHaveDefectedToTeamDog · 05/03/2025 08:53

So its OK for you to insult those whose opinions don’t align with yours, but you complain if someone pokes fun at those in agreement you?
Yep, that’s entirely reasonable. 🧐

😂😂

That was in response to @CurlewKate

BlondiePortz · 05/03/2025 08:57

I don't want to have to remember what words I can and can't use to what audiences so I don't swear it's easier

CurlewKate · 05/03/2025 09:11

@IHaveDefectedToTeamDog "So its OK for you to insult those whose opinions don’t align with yours, but you complain if someone pokes fun at those in agreement you?"

So you're "poking fun" at me by calling me a prissy pearl clutcher. I'm "insulting" you by calling you disingenuous. Interesting distinction!

Lurkingandlearning · 05/03/2025 10:06

It really pisses me off that some women collude with the idea that a word that means vagina is the filthiest thing a person can say.

I can’t think of one slang word for penis, that is more than mildly derisory.

But I do know, when people say cunt in anger they are trying to be as hurtful as possible. I hope if and when I am called one I remember to say, “Aw thanks. Vaginas are great aren’t they, so useful and so much fun.”

But I’ll probably just end up with my usual on the spot wit and say, “you are” 😬

RoastdinnerSunday · 05/03/2025 11:09

I would never use it and find it most offensive. Misogynist men use it to be derogatory to women.
I accept that some men use it with each other as part of banter, which is okay, but I still don't like it.

PiastriThePastry · 05/03/2025 11:30

I use it sometimes but only really around people I know won’t be offended. I lived in New Zealand for a while and it’s used A LOT more than it is here, being called a ‘genuine good cunt’ is quite the compliment, whereas ‘shit cunt’ is quite the opposite 🤣 I think location, occasion and company matters hugely with using stronger swear words!

MiserableMrsMopp · 05/03/2025 11:32

No! I refuse to accept that the rudest word in the English language is my genitalia. The place that new humans come out of. HOW ridiculous.

Accepting that is patriarchy at its finest.

Do you mean you don’t use it or you do? I can’t quite decide how you meant this.

I would use it, but not as an insult. As a term to describe my lady garden.

I do not accept that it's an insult.

Pancakeflipper · 04/03/2025 12:31

I don't use it. It's not allowed in my house. Which is hypercritical as I do swear.

I know I'm in a minority in finding it degrading. I can't explain why, I just do.

You're not alone neither my husband nor I have ever used it and we're potty mouthed
