I think the standard of moderation on MN has declined massively over the last few years. No idea why, although I suspect that it’s to do with several factors, that combine together to create a less-than-satisfactory approach to warning/deleting/banning.
For a start, the current crop of mods (with the exception of the outstanding Dawn) don’t ever seem to engage with the MN ‘community’. I remember - back when it were all fields - that it really did feel like a community. Those days are long since gone. But when the mods were a part of the conversations, they ‘got’ what people were posting about. They were able, therefore, to understand the broader context and nuances of posts.
Now, it seems to me, anything that gets reported gets a fairly cursory inspection. Actually, ‘inspection’ seems to be too complimentary a word. I suspect that there is too small a mod team and too many threads/posts, which won’t help, and which means that the mods don’t really have the time to read and really think about the whole thread, the context in which it’s being written and - therefore - why a poster or posters may be posting as they do.
And, frankly, I don’t think they care any more.
