I haven't seen my DS1 in over a year...

(Cos he married a wonderful Aussie and lives there)
And tonight when DH and me were cooking dinner there was a loud knock at the door and they walked in!!!!!!

They were due to arrive a week later for two weeks...so they told us , but are actually here for three and wanted to surprise us, and their sister who had a baby 3 weeks ago.

I am just so bloody happy. To hear their voices and see DD2 and DS2's faces when they saw them (just DD1 to go as she lives further away but she rang me, and DS1 answered the phone Grin).

Erm, am I the only one who thinks it's not exactly a massive surprise to turn up just a week before everyone thought they were going to anyway?!
An actual surprise would be them arriving after saying something like, sorry mum we can't actually afford a trip, maybe see you next year.

Yes I would say 100% you are the only one.
How mean , insensitive and unnecessary !

Why did you post this? I'm genuinely interested.

I know you won't reply but I had to ask. Perhaps making some friends would help you with your bitterness. Worth a try but do work on your personality first or you have no chance.

Enjoy OP. Make the most of every second.

That has brought tears to my hardened eyes. Beautiful 😍

I bet you're fun on Christmas morning. You miserable sod.

Cakeandcoffee93 · 28/02/2025 23:25

Ahhh how wonderful!

ThreeMagicNumber · 28/02/2025 23:29

After a really shitty 24 hours after a family member passing away, this has really made me feel happy for you and made me smile, thanks for sharing and I hope you all have a lovely extra week together ❤️

Myfluffyblanket · 28/02/2025 23:32

I'm not surprised your flight was awful, @MyFlightWasAwfulThanksForAsking . I bet no-one wanted to sit next to you.

Md85 · 28/02/2025 23:41

Aw that's lovely! Enjoy this special time

Lemonyyy · 28/02/2025 23:42

This is lush, thank you for sharing! Your kids sound lovely and it’s so nice that they are thoughtful and wanted to surprise you.

rivalsbinge · 28/02/2025 23:46

Awwwwhhh amazing my DS is about to start his new life and that involves being away for big chucks of time. I hope he comes home sometimes.

How amazing.

Motnight · 28/02/2025 23:53

Lovely surprise! Thank you for sharing with us, Op

I agree with you. A whole week earlier. Nothing to see here. And the hysteria is weird. And yes I have close family that I don't see that often.

oakleaffy · 01/03/2025 00:00

Wonderful, @Sonolanona ❤️

Some of us love seeing our Families- it's only on Mumsnet where there are bizarre, cold, strange dysfunctional ''No contact'' arrangements.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 01/03/2025 00:03

Oh that's so lovely !

Saw your title and I thought, oh no, another estranged family - but no. A happy post for once.

Enjoy your time with all your family 😊

shellyleppard · 01/03/2025 00:03

What a beautiful surprise..... enjoy ❤️

LBFseBrom · 28/02/2025 22:37

That is lovely! What a wonderful surprise.

However, what's with all the 'they' and 'them', you already said he was a son? Please don't buy into the zeitgeist, it is so confusing at times.

I hope all is well with him (not 'them',) just wanted to share your joy.

Edited

Them = OP's DS and his partner. There are two of them.

Yes I like seeing mine. But it doesn't need for it to be daily or weekly for it to be meaningful or important.

Onetwothreefourfivealive · 01/03/2025 00:10

Such a lovely post, I hope you have a lovely couple of weeks together x

Wow how mean spirited are you. Can you not stand the thought of someone else being happy. Even one extra day with a DC you hadn’t seen for a year is special

You’re the only one being a prat about it tbh

Sonolanona · 01/03/2025 00:38

Ah thanks everyone.. it was just such a wonderful surprise, and yes it's they and them... because they are both here and I love my daughter in law very much ..she lived with us for a couple of years and she's brilliant.

*MyFlightWasAWfulThanksForAsking' I can only guess you don't have adult children, far away who you miss so much that an extra week together, unexpected, means so much. I do and I'm lucky and grateful :)

This has made me smile. What a fabulous surprise. We have family in Australia too and I know how much an extra week will mean. Enjoy every minute.

Ah that's fabulous and has really made me smile.

Ignore the weird ass comments OP!
