I haven't seen my DS1 in over a year...

(Cos he married a wonderful Aussie and lives there)
And tonight when DH and me were cooking dinner there was a loud knock at the door and they walked in!!!!!!

They were due to arrive a week later for two weeks...so they told us , but are actually here for three and wanted to surprise us, and their sister who had a baby 3 weeks ago.

I am just so bloody happy. To hear their voices and see DD2 and DS2's faces when they saw them (just DD1 to go as she lives further away but she rang me, and DS1 answered the phone Grin).

Erm, am I the only one who thinks it's not exactly a massive surprise to turn up just a week before everyone thought they were going to anyway?!
An actual surprise would be them arriving after saying something like, sorry mum we can't actually afford a trip, maybe see you next year.

Do you have a close loved one who lives the other side of the world? Who you miss dearly? That you count down the days to see them? Believe me, a week early would be a bloody amazing thing

TheChosenTwo · 28/02/2025 22:30

Ahh what a bloody wonderful surprise 🥰
I had a lovely surprise when my dd was home for my birthday after being at uni, wasn’t expecting her and it had only been 3 weeks since I’d seen her and I’d have been seeing her in another 3 weeks anyway but her and her dad had cooked up a plan and he sent her to pick me up from the train station when I got back from work and it was lovely! So I can only imagine your utter joy - have a lovely time together 💐

That wouldn't be a nice surprise, it would just cause unnecessary upset and disappointment whilst thinking they wouldnt see him at all.

NiftyKoala · 28/02/2025 22:33

I am so happy for you it feels like it happened to me! What a wonderful surprise!

Newtrix · 28/02/2025 22:36

This is amazing, what a wonderful suprise. Have a brilliant few weeks with them 😀

deeahgwitch · 28/02/2025 22:37

Delighted for you. Enjoy the time together 💐

LBFseBrom · 28/02/2025 22:37

That is lovely! What a wonderful surprise.

However, what's with all the 'they' and 'them', you already said he was a son? Please don't buy into the zeitgeist, it is so confusing at times.

I hope all is well with him (not 'them',) just wanted to share your joy.

ToffeeSquirrels · 28/02/2025 22:39

How Lovely 🥰

dizzydizzydizzy · 28/02/2025 22:39

That's lovely! I did that to my parents when I lived abroad. We've never forgotten.

HRTQueen · 28/02/2025 22:42

LadyBracknellsHandbagg · 28/02/2025 22:44

Presumably OP is referring to her DS and his wife? If so, 'they' would be entirely correct...

Erm, am I the only one that doesn't like a fun sponge?!

Just say something nice or don't comment.

There are always people in here who could start a punch up in the manger on Christmas Day!

Anrom19 · 28/02/2025 22:59

Well, that post has definitely made me
feel warm and fuzzy (and I really needed that tonight, so thanks for sharing).

How lovely for you all. Have the best 3 weeks!

So good to read about happy familial news!

IfYouLook · 28/02/2025 23:09

Love it! 🥰

Big family of surprisers here. Did it to my sis who lives in NZ. Found out she was going to be in Washington for a work trip - flew over and was waiting for her in the airport when she arrived. 😀

caringcarer · 28/02/2025 23:10

What a lovely surprise and a whole extra week with your boy. You must be so happy. ❤️

It really is. I clicked on this thread expecting the best line to be "because we had a huge row" so the reveal was a lovely surprise.
