FFS! I just can't....Ever had anything like this happen? I don't know what to title it!

As part of my job I help new companies on startup.

I wrote to a graphic design company, explaining what a company did and asking them to design me a logo-I told them the company name and purpose and gave an example that I quite liked but added 'A little more professional looking, the writing 'gets lost' a little in this one'.

They agreed they'd come up with a few designs and I could choose one which they'd then format and send to me.

Today they've sent their proposed designs back. 6 altogether.

Every.Single.One has the company name and then 'Gets Lost' written underneath it.

In fairness in very prominent letters that certainly stand out.

Brilliant thread, thank you! It's made me chuckle so much. The cakes....just how?!

Paid upfront but for 6 designs. I am not sure if they're going to try charge me for amendment-at least one of the designs is good if they remove the 'gets lost' part-I will be putting in a complaint if they try to charge me!

Paid upfront but for 6 designs.

Ah I missed this. You really should get a refund then.

Anyone else remember the Welsh out of office traffic sign, or am I just old?

When officials asked for the Welsh translation of a road sign, they thought the reply was what they needed.

Unfortunately, the e-mail response to Swansea council said in Welsh: "I am not in the office at the moment. Send any work to be translated"

Came on to say exactly this!

This reminds me of the time a friend and I were abroad for work in a hotel where nobody spoke more than a few words of English.

He kept trying to order a plain hamburger. Thought he'd nailed it by saying very slowly "HAMBURGER. NOTHING ON IT"

Waiter nodded enthusiastically and promptly returned with an empty, dry burger bun with a side of chips 🤣 36 quid!! 😅

OR an an app that gets you lost? I am in the wrong profession (for many reasons it seems)😂

@theJackofHearts I think sat navs did that quite a lot in the early days, trying to send a truck over a cliff in Dorset, as I recall!

Seriously, though, you have all my sympathy, but as a designer myself, you have made my afternoon 😂

Wall13 · 27/02/2025 16:30

I was organising a night out for a swimming club at a local restaurant. One of the parents (happened to be the chief executive of the local council), asked where we were going. Felt rather awkward telling him "Get Stuffed."

Tahcnibor · 27/02/2025 16:43

This thread is gold 🤣

MrsMitford3 · 27/02/2025 16:48

I was staying in a hotel for work and DH (then Boyfriend) made a grand gesture and sent me a box of long stemmed roses to my room.

My name was horribly misspelled and inside was a lovely card-written on it was
"NO MESSAGE"

we still laugh about it

Corgi2023 · 27/02/2025 16:49

I volunteered for a charity once and on our logo the word 'Languages' was supposed to be translated into the different languages (like langues, idiomas) anyway it turned out the Arabic one actually said 'two penises' - nobody had bothered to check it and we had been using it for several years until some ladies found it incredibly amusing at a community group. We all had a good laugh 😂

PuppyMonkey · 27/02/2025 16:51

These are funny but as someone who has to do this type of thing, the “briefs” you get are v often a tad… confusing… when you’re in a hurry and loads of similar demands.

I got an email today for instance which just said “please can I have a business card for my new XXX. Thanks.” I mean, a few ideas about what to put on it would be nice. Eg. The person’s name. The company etc.

Not that I’m suggesting you were confusing in your email OP. Course not. Grin

Also, paying up front? Yikes.

You went with an Indian company trying to get something on the cheap, this is what happens.

By the way it will be logo designs that are already in use with other companies, either stolen/copied or mass sold to loads.

They are good companies to use if you have a strict brief and want to copy an existing design for something, useless if you want anything original or modified, as you've found out.

Everyday racism is not OK.

Did you use Fivr OP😂
I once sent a design for a birthdayinvite to a low rent design and print company and they changed 'you know you want to come' to 'you know you want to CUM'. And delivered me 150 invites to my door with this on.
I feel your pain.

"Missing Missy" reminded me of Brenda Trent's (ai generated) obituary.

Was this really printed somewhere? I cannot stop laughing! Oh, I hope AI writes my obit. Many years from now!

fiorentina · 27/02/2025 17:22

One of my frustrations working in marketing for years was the lack of attention to detail from designers, but even worse when the agencies charged more for an account manager who clearly didn’t review properly before sharing. Obviously mistakes happen, we are human but constant lack of care!

BornSandyDevotional · 27/02/2025 17:25

You obviously chose to brief a something other than a genuine and capable design agency. In your line of work, I'm surprised you don't have at least one trusted supplier for this. Didn't you look at their portfolio? There's precious little more painful on the eye than people pretending they're designers when they aren't. But it isn't hard to discern. Were you looking to just get something done for the client very cheaply?

yourmaw · 27/02/2025 17:27

literally followed instruction to the letter. i think its funny

ginasevern · 27/02/2025 17:36

Yes, OP. Common sense has gone out the window. I think it has a lot to do with the death of the spoken word and social interaction in general. People don't understand nuances anymore. Everything is automated and followed to the letter. The human brain is the greatest computer on earth, packed with information, memories, intuition and instinct but people are using fewer and fewer of these amazing skills.

I started reading this thinking it wasn’t all that funny until I got to the ‘She had no horses, but thought she did.’ Can’t stop laughing now 🤣🤣🤣
