Spa Stay Alone?

Chuchi94 · 26/02/2025 19:14

Hey all, new here! I'm really debating whether to book a 1 night spa stay for myself. The package includes a treatment, spa access, dinner and breakfast etc.

I've lost a few friends since having my children (I'm 31), and my hubby isn't really fussed about spas, and I wouldn't want to drag him along to be a downer ha - so is it normal to go by myself?! I keep thinking to be brave and just do it, just the thought of getting any funny stares etc is putting me off! Then I think - a double bed, peaceful sleep and to chill for a whole day would be bliss.

Has anyone done similar? Thanks!

Nobody will notice. I’ve just had a spa weekend by myself in Baden-Baden. It was great!

Btw where is this spa package for individuals?

Lostworlds · 26/02/2025 19:18

I have actually been thinking of doing this myself lately! I think you should go for it!

mindutopia · 26/02/2025 19:20

That sounds lovely. I go away every year on my own and leave Dh home with the dc. It’s lovely to eat a meal in peace. You will not be the only one. That said, Dh and I have also gone for a spa break and he loved it. He thought it was a bit weird for a man, but he’s a big fan of spas now and keeps asking when we should go back. Still, yes, it is totally normal and lovely to go on your own.

I haven't done a stay but I've done a full spa day on my own. It was amazing, I completely pleased myself, read my book and didn't compromise on anything I wanted to do.

Chuchi94 · 26/02/2025 19:42

Thank you all for the responses and support, really reassuring to hear this!

It's Hoar Cross Hall in Staffordshire, the stays are based on 2 people sharing a room but you just change it to 1 person when booking on the website and you book in your treatment time! I've been there before for a day with a friend and we loved it, just thought an overnight stay alone would be really relaxing and a massive treat as it's been a long time!

(Ps this Mumsnet is so supportive and friendly isn't it!)

Ohhh. I’ve been to Hoar Cross with DH. I didn’t know you can go alone,

I have been to their day spa, Eden Hall, which is also good.

Chuchi94 · 26/02/2025 19:48

Ah got you! I might ask them just to double check you can go alone ☺️ ooh yes that Eden Hall looks lovely!

Their day spa, Eden Hall, is local to me and I've been a few times. Lots of quiet corners to relax, and the staff are very welcoming.

Enjoy your weekend!

Cynic17 · 26/02/2025 19:49

I thought the point of a spa was to relax? Much better to be alone to do that, surely? Nobody will care - it will be full of solo people.

Covidwoes · 26/02/2025 19:49

I did this for my birthday last year OP! It was absolute heaven. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Nobiggerthanyourhand · 26/02/2025 19:50

I always go to a spa alone! Including overnight ones. I had two nights at the Glasshouse retreat and felt euphoric by the end!

Chuchi94 · 26/02/2025 19:53

Ah wow thank you all, so good to hear you've done them alone and it was an amazing experience for you all!

There is usually a single person supplement so check for that extra cost.

spartanrunnergirl · 26/02/2025 20:05

I often go away alone, and I love it. You can do completely as you please, no need to compromise or fit in with plans. Go for it, spas have lots of solo people in my experience, all giving themselves a little treat.

JoyDreamer86 · 26/02/2025 20:12

I love going away on my own but the only bit I dont like is eating alone in a restaurant. Breakfast and lunch ok but evening meal I quite often chicken out of. I'll do self catering or room service instead for example. What do people do - do you have sonething to read at the table? Try to sit near a window?

Bubbles1001 · 26/02/2025 20:18

Oh this sounds heavenly! Go for it!

FoolishHips · 26/02/2025 20:23

Hoar Cross Hall will thank you for your advert :)

potoftea · 26/02/2025 20:35

I'm not brave enough to go to the cinema alone, but yet I've done 2 Spa breaks alone!
For a start no one really knows you're alone, because your partner could be in a different area, so except for meal times, it's not obvious.
I did find eating dinner alone a but odd, so had room service the 2nd time I went.

Odiebay · 26/02/2025 20:40

My god. This is my dream. Go! I promise everyone is only bothered about themselves not everyone else. I go to restaurants, cinema, spas etc alone. I have a perfect time!

Blondebrownorred · 26/02/2025 20:57

It wouldn't be for me. What do you do all day without someone to chat to? I understand you can read a book but surely not all day and evening? What about at the dinner table? Do you read at the dinner table or sit there in silence looking around the room?

Ahwig · 26/02/2025 20:59

With breakfast quite often they will bring it to the room ( there's sometimes a charge approx £5) but having breakfast in bed is absolutely fabulous, worth a thought.

mismomary · 26/02/2025 21:12

I have never done a spa night but I totally would if I fancied it. I have taken myself out for dinner (with a book) and stayed in hotels alone. Lovely. No one bats an eyelid.

Bjorkdidit · 26/02/2025 21:23

I wish more people went to spas alone then they wouldn't be so full of screeching hen parties and pairs who talk constantly.

I go to a day spa a couple of times a year but this year I'm planning a spa and walking short break. I'm going to have a couple of nights at the Buxton Crescent that's just been refurbished and each day walk in the Peak District then spend time in the spa.

I'll have a nice breakfast and lunch while out and about. There's a waitrose next to the hotel where I will buy supplies for a hotel room picnic for dinner.

Yes, you could read all day, also snooze, relax, enjoy dinner.

Do you not enjoy your own company and thoughts?

I'd get bored. I couldn't read all day and evening. Definitely don't do napping and I wouldn't enjoy dinner sitting there on my own with nothing to do.
Fair play to those that do though.
