On a full flight where do you think they could have moved the body though?

On my airline (and I'm sure on others) we'll move passengers around if possible but on a full flight there's nowhere to move either a body or passengers.

Good grief. Read the article

Why didn't the couple just move themselves if there were spare seats?

Read 👏the 👏article 👏

SheilaFentiman · 26/02/2025 19:54

@crankytoes the woman in the couple did move across the aisle, and it’s not in the least clear (reading the bbc and cnn articles) that the husband was “not allowed” to move. It looks more like a move wasn’t offered (which it probably should have been, agree) and he didn’t ask for one (heaven knows why not).

HoppingPavlova · 26/02/2025 10:29

Also very confused why the guy himself didn’t move if there were spare seats which is what they are saying. It’s odd, if they were unhappy, that they just sat there and looked at spare seats🤷‍♀️

Read 👏 the 👏 article 👏

How do people double down on their inability to read.

The linked article states

The couple claimed that the cabin crew told them they had to remain in their seats next to the body

SheilaFentiman · 26/02/2025 19:56

@crankytoes and the husband (in the interview available via the bbc article) says that they tried to move the dead woman in a kind of trolley chair but that there wasn’t space to do so. Since he was right next to events, and he said that, I believe him that there wasn’t really space (presumably in economy) to manoeuvre her.

I have read the bbc and cnn articles which were linked.

You are very rude. I will not engage further.

Coralsunset · 26/02/2025 18:35

Of course I did but she was totally hysterical, screaming and shouting. Flailing her arms around and it was a horrible situation.

I should probably add that I am ND although I suspect most posters would have preferred to sit away from her and her deceased husband, given a chance!!

Fair dos, it does sound like a very tough situation for all sorts of reasons.

crankytoes · 26/02/2025 20:05

Incredible that you are so keen to point out that you read the articles yet still seem to be doubling down on there but being anything said about the couple not being able to move even though I've copy and pasted it

Beggars belief.

I have my mum's permission to post this, but she was actually ON that flight! She was, in fact, the 'lovely English lady' who told the woman to come and sit next to her (she did not say 'darling, darling...' and has never said anything remotely like that in her life!)

Anyway, according to my mum there were loads of alternative seating options, but when she (mum) suggested the man move to in front of them, his wife/oartner said he was fine! She (the woman) did speculate that they might get upgraded for their onward flight to Venice, but my mum says that absolutely no one was traumatised by the situation - although obviously sad for the lady who died and her family! - and this is a blatant play for compensation...

MhariMe · 26/02/2025 21:27

@Sleepthief I knew it! There's always 3 sides to every story.

Now why am I not surprised?

ChoccaLokka · 26/02/2025 21:43

IUnderstandTheWeird · 26/02/2025 09:45

Where are they supposed to move a dead body to though? It’s not like they have an onboard facility. Should they have propped the body up in the galley and prepped meals whilst stepping over the deceased? I’m not saying I wouldn’t be a bit upset if I was having to sit next to a dead person, but it really can’t be helped when there isn’t anywhere for a body to be moved to, or spare seats for the other passengers. It’s been happening for years.

It happened on a flight I was on many years ago. A passenger died in their seat. They were moved to the galley. They didn't serve breakfast or any further refreshments. When we landed we all had to stay in our seats until the police came aboard to check there were no suspicious circumstances before they removed the body.

LovelyLeitrim · 26/02/2025 21:35

Exactly, and I did read the fucking article to those charming posters who suggested I hadn't, in which it said there were spare seats available

As I suspected the couple are just disingenuously seeking compensation.

Colour me shocked.

<whistles casually>

SheilaFentiman · 27/02/2025 00:47

Seems a smidge weird to complain they haven’t been offered counselling and what not when (a) it only happened a few days ago and (b) they are currently on their dream holiday in Venice and presumably would prefer to access counselling at home than in Italian.,,

SheilaFentiman · 27/02/2025 00:48

And there was I, foolishly putting more stock in the reports from the BBC and CNN than from People magazine.

Well, don’t I feel like a right fanny now…

HoppingPavlova · 27/02/2025 01:43

@crankytoes Read 👏 the 👏 article 👏

I. Did. Still. No. Idea.

He could have moved. He wasn’t trapped, he just needed to climb over her. I’m old and obese. I can do this on a plane if necessary, so he could have done it. Crew sssy stay in the seat? Seriously, if he just went sat somewhere else, realistically they are going to do absolutely zilch. He could have moved if he wanted rather than just gazing at the spare seats.

He didn't even need to climb over her. He and the body were the only occupants of the four seat middle row. She was on one aisle seat. He could have accessed the aisle on the other side. That was made clear in the interview with the couple. Presumably he sat on the other aisle seat to create as much space as possible. He'd have been mad not to.

GottaGetOutofDairy · 27/02/2025 09:31

Yeah, I think it's clear by this point that they are just on the scrounge for comp money.

RockStarMartini · 26/02/2025 13:49

I read something where the man said he though he should talk to someone (ie a counsellor or similar) to see if he was OK - it absolutely sounded like clutching at straws and hoping for a payout, presumably he knew if he was OK or not!

Saw him on tv this morning. He was wearing a hat indoors so i immediately took against him.

what I am interested in is the process they went through that led them to be on the tv etc. how does that happen, do you email a newspaper?

I'm not sure if sitting next to a dead body would bother me you know. I would see it as being by their side so they aren't alone kinda thing.

That’s such a compassionate way to look at it. That’s what’s been lost in all this, they didn’t know this woman from Adam (well Eve) what a way to make it all about them. Poor family having to see that beanie hatted tosser on the news.

SerendipityJane · 27/02/2025 10:00
