To give a newborn a house tour

At work today I was talking to a pregnant colleague and she said it will be so strange taking a baby home and what do you actually do with a baby when you get home from hospital and I said with mine I took them on a tour of the house to show themwhere everything is and where they would be sleeping. By this point other colleagues had joined the conversation and thought it was funny and weird that I did this. I assumed most people would do this when they bring their babies home. Am i weird or is this normal 🙈🤣🤣

That's super cute.

I thought most people just took them home looked at them and thought fuck!!!!

I took mine to Tesco for some chocolate. 😂

Cute - they won't see everything anywhere like clearly, but nothing wrong in showing them their home.

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 25/02/2025 20:10

I just gazed at her in the Moses basket whilst shovelling a McDonald's into my mouth at the speed of light 😂

whatnooow · 25/02/2025 20:10

I think that's lovely

6namechange3 · 25/02/2025 20:10

I think that is very cute, babies like being held, heaing their parents voice. They often seem to like the person holding them to be moving so it's a win for the baby.
I showed my dog around our new home when we moved, i think she appreciated the gesture!

raysofhope · 25/02/2025 20:10

I think I was too exhausted and bewildered to consider doing something like this when I got home from the hospital but I think it’s lovely that you did!

WonderingWanda · 25/02/2025 20:10

I think I probably took mine straight to bed with me when I got home.

Pebbles16 · 25/02/2025 20:11

Very cute, Not sure if it's "normal" (what is?), but lovely to give the little one the scope of the home.

My husband gave our son the tour of the house when we brought him home, I thought it was really sweet!

Parker231 · 25/02/2025 20:12

I handed DT’s over to doting grandparents and went to bed!

Weird

Rude

Op ignore the rude poster there. I think it's lovely 😍

I did a tour too! DH and I didn't really know what to do, so we took her on a tour of the house. It was very small and didn't take long, so we followed it by a tour of the village and a trip to the pub.

REDB99 · 25/02/2025 20:13

Newborns can’t see very far or focus on things far away from them so your baby wouldn’t have been able to see your house anyway. They would have felt safe hearing mum’s voice though.

My rescue cat marched me around the house with his tail.in the air as if he wanted me to explain the facilities!

I did wander around the nursery with my son at a few days old describing all the pictures in the nursery in the small hours of the morning.

CouldYouMindThatBaby · 25/02/2025 20:14

My Dad did this to my son, took him on a tour of the estate ie our house and garden. I thought it was adorable.

SueSheeMee · 25/02/2025 20:14

I bought DC2 home and took her straight upstairs for a nappy change and whacked her head on the banister🙈. I'd lived in a flat when I had DC1 and hadn't anticipated her head position in my arms as I negotiated the turn. Never did it again! She's 15 now and doing well at school so hopefully no lasting damage!

Nifler · 25/02/2025 20:15

Haha I think it’s cute Grin

Rhymetimegopo · 25/02/2025 20:16

With dc 1 I was really ill and just collapsed on the sofa with a cup of tea, thinking don't wake up yet. However with dt dc1 was 4 and wanted to show them round so they had a tour of the house with dc1 explaining where they would sleep etc (and which toys he'd share).

Diversion · 25/02/2025 20:16

I think that is a lovely thing to do. DD1 was in SCBU for 2 weeks, we were just glad to get her home, although we did get photos of us holding her at the front door. DS and DD2 I probably intorduced them to their siblings and DD3 I checked the house was tidy as DH had booked a house viewing for about an hour after we arrived home.

Waterboatlass · 25/02/2025 20:17

I think it's lovely OP! being held and talked to isnt weird at all

JustBitetheKnotsOff · 25/02/2025 20:17

Took mine for a tour of Sainsbury's, IIRC. Well, we needed teabags and milk.
