Cost of Maccies Etc

Used to be a fairly cheap option but not anymore! Trying to get through to DD16 that Maccies is now a treat rather than something to just casually buy ( she asked if we could go & get breakfast earlier). How often do you have Maccies, Burger King, KFC etc? I wouldn’t even say we have it monthly these days. I could start a whole other thread about DD & the value of money!

Just worked out it’s 10 years since I had a MacD’s or Burger King (over 20 for KFC 🤢)!

Nasty stuff, I’d rather go hungry till the next opportunity for decent food presented itself.

Congratulations! Would you like a virtual medal now?, 🏅or should I pop a real one in the post?

Never for breakfast unless travelling. For lunch occasionally at the shopping mall area, there's one by Asda Grin or at service stations, the airport etc

You can buy hash browns that are identical from supermarket frozen aisles, easy to make your own egg McMuffin too.

We get one every few months, always because it's a convenient place to stop wherever we are, we wouldn't go from home and get one to eat at home (we'd just cook at home). We generally prefer to take a packed lunch to eat on trips out, but sometimes there's no convenient place to eat one, so we end up paying for fast food just to have a dry warm place to eat. In the summer we might stop at one just for a McFlurry, I find those cheap compared to an ice cream van. I don't find it too expensive as an occasional treat, but we have got used to higher food prices generally.

Virtual is fine, ta.

I am a cheapskate so just buy the 1.99 wrap times however many people. generally I keep drinks and snacks in the car so with a wrap it’s an instant lunch. Not often maybe once a month. Normally have enough points for a free coffee. You do get some good deals on the app.

Can't remember which country I was in, but a McMeal at the airport would have been about £25 pp. I did not buy. (As in, a chicken burger by itself was GBP equivalent of about £17)

We buy it for teen kids on motorway journeys but otherwise don't use McDs.We've got a wimpy in our local town which I prefer, drinks in proper glasses and food on plates - food better and table service. It's like it was in the 80s.

We bought 2 x fish, one large chips and 2 mushy peas last week at our local chippy which cost £27! Would have been a tenner less just a few years ago. It wasn't even nice so I won't be rushing back.

You are right @RabbitsRock teenagers don't realise how much everything adds up!

That's really interesting, because for us, Chinese is one of the most expensive and F&C the cheapest!

We got a Chinese a couple of weeks ago for a birthday dinner - each meal was coming up on £10 each. Mind you, at least they come with rice - where I grew up, you got the sweet and sour (or whatever) and then had to buy rice separately, same with Indian.

Chinese, depends what you order. You can make it cheap or expensive.

But you can't get a small fish and chips for less than £10 where I live.

DD is looking for a job. She gets £25 a pocket money a week, which I know is a lot, but she’s very good at trying to convince me that it’s not enough & that DH & I should pay for more stuff for her! The food issue is complicated as well as she’s cut right down on her eating so then I get guilt tripped into buying things like Maccies “ because at least I’m eating something”. Coupled with other behaviour, it’s making me think I need to speak to BEAT ( eating disorders charity) but that’s another thread altogether.

Is she able to get a job in McDs or similar then she'll get a free meal per shift at least, plus earn money to buy her own.

Never like MD - horrid, luke warm, not for me.
I suggest for a treat you teach your DD how to cook bacon, and eggs with a side of mushrooms or whatever, serve it up in brioche buns. Much cheaper.

I was away for work recently and on one day in a location where McDonald's or KFC were the only options, I'd stayed in a hotel the night before so no packed lunch possible. I got a £5 meal deal thing that was ok, a cheese burger, 4 nuggets, chips and a coffee, it wasn't great but it was edible and filling and £5 seems like a reasonable amount. I guess it depends what you order
