Cost of Maccies Etc

RabbitsRock · 25/02/2025 09:00

Used to be a fairly cheap option but not anymore! Trying to get through to DD16 that Maccies is now a treat rather than something to just casually buy ( she asked if we could go & get breakfast earlier). How often do you have Maccies, Burger King, KFC etc? I wouldn’t even say we have it monthly these days. I could start a whole other thread about DD & the value of money!

Once a week I would say

Whiteradiatorwithbellson · 25/02/2025 09:49

I buy it for dcs a few times a year. It's cheaper than going to bills/nandos/wagamamas/pizza express or other takeaways. Also the portion size is more suitable for my dcs (they are under 10).

I last had an actual ‘Maccies’ in 1986.

There are nicer ways of scratching your fast food itch. Fish and chip, for example.

@DiggieToe McDonald's is not good at all. I would eat a Burger King meal if I was absolutely famished and it's late at night and everything is closed, but McDonalds is not real food.

I was once in a queue for Burger King in a train station with a couple stood behind me who from their conversation obviously did not normally eat at this kind of place, they were trying to work out what to order and the lady kept saying "I don't care what burger I have so long as it's flame grilled". I presume she'd seen one of their adverts where the burger was engulfed in apocalypse style fire but I would imagine the actual product she got was possibly an eye opening disappointment!

ssd · 25/02/2025 10:09

I really enjoy a small cheeseburger if I'm in the mood for one, but they are always lukewarm and a bit soggy. It puts me off.
I absolutely used to love a whopper but that was years ago, they are probably half the size now.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 25/02/2025 10:16

Still 😮 at £4 for a happy meal. Think last time I was in Maccys they were £1.99.

The tldr is that they dry out quickly. Still shit in the meat tho!

Oh I posted an image. The burgers are beef and salt and pepper.

Maybe for you. In a shocking turn of events, different people like different things.

Arseynal · 25/02/2025 10:31

We went during eat out to help out (august 2020?) and I couldn’t believe how expensive it was and it was half price. I definitely was under the impression it was a cheap option.

They’re just normal meat. No terrible ingredients.

Beef Patty

Ingredients: 100% Pure Beef.
No additives, fillers, binders, preservatives or flavour enhancers. Just pure forequarter and flank. A little salt and pepper is added to season after cooking.

The absolute wild snobbery around McDonald's is really irritating.

Fish and chips are easily the most expensive fast food for what you get.

Yes the chain pizzas are expensive too, but you can easily stretch those to 2 meals.

Best value is Chinese. £4 for an all-in-one where I am and that's 2 big meals/portions.

That's really interesting, because for us, Chinese is one of the most expensive and F&C the cheapest!

We got a Chinese a couple of weeks ago for a birthday dinner - each meal was coming up on £10 each. Mind you, at least they come with rice - where I grew up, you got the sweet and sour (or whatever) and then had to buy rice separately, same with Indian.

ladykale · 25/02/2025 10:40

@LazyArsedMagician not sure it's snobbery. It's really poor quality "food" - even worse than Burger King or KFC!

Gall10 · 25/02/2025 10:41

Eating in a macca Dee the burger & chips are already cold by the time you get them to a table….god knows what they’re like after they’ve been transported through the city on a bike!
Although I am quite partial to a fillet of fish!

borntoblossom · 25/02/2025 10:43

I don't bother with their hash browns, you can get a 10 pack of the aldi dupe ones for the same price as one, don't in the air fryer they are fab.

I only get McDonald's when they have offers on the app (or wrap of the day) then do the McDonald's food for thoughts survey and get a burger and fries for 2.99 if I get a receipt

Thank you! Absolutely fascinating.

I would have thought a meat product would rot but it’s obvious now I think about it - dried meat keeps forever.

Why is it worse? What’s in the burgers that’s so different from Burger King?

theteachesofleeches · 25/02/2025 11:01

I find it unfathomable tbh. A friend of DDs ordered a McDonalds delivered last week - it was £16! and cold and even the chips looked flaccid and grim. DD had a fried egg sandwich that looked a lot more appealing - hot and fresh at least. £16! It blows my tiny mind.

What's your metric for comparison if you consider BK and KFC better?

Personally I think calling something "food" rather than food, is the very definition of snobbery.

theteachesofleeches · 25/02/2025 11:03

With me it is not snobbery - I loved MCDonalds fries and breakfast sandwiches and hash browns, but the quality seems to have plummeted as the price has skyrocketed and it has to be eaten really hot and fresh to taste good surely? Cold fries and burgers are just grim!

EarlierDistraction · 25/02/2025 11:08

They're not cold if you eat in, we never take them away or get delivery (we can't get delivery here anyway), the whole point is that they are something to eat when you're out and about for us.

OriginalUsername2 · 25/02/2025 11:09

Ah I never want the deals. I want my order! It saddens me how expensive it’s gotten. It always comes with a side of guilt because we spent so much.

Thatsenoughadulting · 25/02/2025 11:13

She's 16. If she wants McDs more often then she can pay for it herself. Maybe she'll learn the value of money better then.
