Do you like going for a walk?

It's one of my favourite things.

I prefer it in the mountains or somewhere beautiful, a lovely spring day is best burning I cantbhave that I still love a walk in a local park or even to the shops! I'll walk in all weathers, but my least favourite is when it's very hot.

It makes me feel happy and relaxed.

For a long time I thought people who didn't do it just hadn't tried it/got into the routine, but is it possible there are healthy/fit people who don't enjoy it?

If so, why not?

Love a walk, especially on a cold, misty morning or when it's raining

Caspianberg · 24/02/2025 14:56

Yes.
Its the main reason we moved somewhere with nice walks from the front door.
I walk every day, either with Ds, alone or with friends or dh. It’s a nice mix on types on walks based on time and who with

Oh how l miss it.
I used to walk everywhere.. loved country and costal walks. Going off beaten tracks.. visiting places of interest especially in The Dales and Lake district.. walking up Malham cove and to waterfalls.
All around Snowdonia.
Lovely parks and Gardens. Even walking from my house into the city .
Just not the same in a wheelchair ( tiny steps with walking aids). Yes I'm lucky I'm always driven places ( the coast this weekend) and we have hire car abroad.. and we drive through beautiful stunning scenery.. but I'd love to get closer and walk off beaten track.
Enjoy it while you can.👌

Of course some fit and healthy people hate it! There’s no one thing that’s universally loved.

Personally I detest it, partly because of disabilities that make it difficult and painful for me to walk for any length but also because I find it utterly tedious. I don’t find it at all enjoyable.

GroggyLegs · 24/02/2025 15:05

Ah @Moier - that's made me quite emotional, as I love to be active and I can't imagine how hard it must be when that's no longer an option, yet you sound like you find the positives 💖.

I love to walk (& jog) in all weathers. I just get lost I'm my own thoughts & enjoy the repetitive movement.

LavenderIsland · 24/02/2025 15:06

I love it so much. Especially woods and mountains. I've been lucky enough to hike in the Black Forest, Redwoods and a bamboo forest. I can't think of a better way to spend my leisure time.

Lentilweaver · 24/02/2025 15:07

We like it so much we got rid of our car! We like both city and rural walks.
It has changed my life.

whatwouldyoudoifisangoutofkey · 24/02/2025 15:09

I'm afraid I hate it. Always have.
I suppose I have bad posture as it makes my back ache.
And I just find it boring .
Used to adore cycling .

BishBashBoshClick · 24/02/2025 15:10

I used to before I became disabled. I'm capable of walking still, but not without a significant amount of lasting pain.

Back in the day, I could march uphill or over rocky terrain for hours. I've seen some beautiful things. I do miss it.

mindutopia · 24/02/2025 15:27

I do a lot of walking. I live just on the edge of high moor and do a lot of hill walking. I’ve also walked part of the Camino de Santiago. In fact, I’m unwell at the moment (cancer) and physically unable to walk any distance beyond my garden really, and I miss it.

Deliberationdivinationdesperation · 24/02/2025 15:30

I find walking mostly boring. Although I suppose it's not so bad if I listen to an audiobook. There's only one nice walk near me and I did it so often in my first maternity leave that I got bored of it, maybe I should put my earphones in and give it another go now I've not done it in ages!

wherearemypastnames · 24/02/2025 15:33

Love walking
Love the way it calms me
The time to think

Cynic17 · 24/02/2025 15:35

No. I can't see the point. I don't mind walking around a city, where there is lots to look at, but in the countryside it just bores me to tears. I never "go for a walk", I just walk if there is a specific reason to get to the end point.

willowstar · 24/02/2025 15:35

Absolutely love it. Walking by is fundamental to who I am now. I recently developed shin splints and am being FORCED to rest/not walk. I am finding it incredibly difficult. I walk for my mental and physical wellbeing. Usually 7-8km a day, fast.

Comedycook · 24/02/2025 15:36

Only if I'm walking with someone else and/or walking somewhere beautiful. I'd happily take a gorgeous beach/river walk by myself and I'd happily walk round my boring suburban area with a friend/relative.

I really dislike walking by myself somewhere boring though.

QueSyrahSyrah · 24/02/2025 15:36

Totally depends. We've had some wonderful walks with friends on a Sunday, no particular direction, just rambling around for hours cross country or on cliff paths. More recently I've been walking along the seafront or a local flat pram friendly trail on maternity leave and I'm bored to tears with both of them. The

catin8oots · 24/02/2025 15:38

I walk my dogs every day. I love them and they love it and it forces me out of the house so it's all good.

If I lived alone I would never go for a walk. Even when I'm out with the dogs I'll see a couple strolling hand in hand and I'll be thinking what the fuck? Where's your dog? Where's your kid? Why are you just walking round a park it's BORING. It's not like they are doing an exciting hike or something

Sourisblanche · 24/02/2025 15:38

Love it. Just about to go out for my 3rd shortish walk of the day. We have just bought a house near some mountains in Europe and I can’t wait to move there for walking. Also love walking round cities.

Sorry for those posters above who are unable to walk like they used to.

familyissues12345 · 24/02/2025 15:41

It's not my favourite thing to do, mainly because I have joint issues so can be quite nervy walking on uneven ground. I'm more than happy though to have a good 3k walk on a treadmill a couple of times a week

CrushingOnRubies · 24/02/2025 15:44

Like walking for a purpose to get somewhere or walking the dog but not aimlessly just to get somewhere fresh air

Love a walk if there's a coffee shop involved

Almostwelsh · 24/02/2025 15:44

No. I don't mind walking to get somewhere specific, but walking for the sake of it reminds me of lockdown. Prison exercise.

BB49 · 24/02/2025 15:45

I don't mind walking but would find long hikes or treks a little boring. But that's only because I prefer to run!

BB49 · 24/02/2025 15:48

I find the calming and mental benefits come from running but not walking for me., so really only walk if with friends or dog walking or to get somewhere specific. But I suppose I am lucky to be able to run.

Have you tried different shoes? I can get shin splints sometimes (I can't walk far enough to aggravate them now so every cloud!) and it really makes a difference how hard my feet are striking the ground. Really cushioned soles on decent hiking boots help a lot.

I'm a fast walker (was??) and I don't think marching steps help it either.

LadyLucyWells · 24/02/2025 15:50

Absolutely one of life’s greatest pleasures.
