Well this has never happened to me before - and I don't like it.

19:30 flight from Lanzarote ponced about for ages on the tarmac then threw us all off at 23:30. No offer of accommodation or any indication of time of replacement flight. At least a cafe is open (poor sod at the till) and we had a bottle of gin. You had this?

You need to arrange a meet up like in a spy movie.

ClairDeLaLune · 23/02/2025 08:35

Name change fails all over the place OP!

We had this once flying back from Krakow with RyanAir. Cancelled due to fog. Ryanair couldn’t have been more shit. Offered us a flight in 6 days’ time! A replacement flight, hotel, taxis, extra car parking etc cost us about £1,500. We did manage to claim back £600 from our insurance, but nothing from RyanAir. Act of God apparently, which they don’t have to compensate you for.

I think in the past there has been talk of a special MN scarf.
Could be a merchandising opportunity for MM ,
y' know help them "keep the lights on " and invest in systems to prevent spam ,dos attacks, and filters to prevent undesirable images.

Cuppachuchu · 23/02/2025 08:36

Write your MN usernames on a bit of cardboard like the taxi drivers do at arrivals and put your 😎 on like spies!

Nope, not name change fails. Two mumsnetters caught up in the same delay.

whatwouldyoudoifisangoutofkey · 23/02/2025 08:37

I'll be very very sad if it's a name change fail and clever cover up.
I need it to be two separate MNetters.

Haha just realised there’s 2 of you, thought it was a name change fail, sorry! Ah well, solidarity amongst mumsnetters!

Yes you potentially do - the statutory compensation is determined by distance and delay not amount paid.

We got more compensation for a holiday to Ibiza than we paid, apparently this was because it's done on distance 🤷🏻‍♀️

I can assure you we are not the same person!

I feel your pain.
Look into your rights.
I presume they're not delaying you for the fun of it though.

Alondra · 23/02/2025 08:41

Glittertwins · 23/02/2025 08:24

It wasn't cheap and we don't usually fly.

Cheap flights are charters flying constantly between the UK and Europe most desirable destinations. The majority work well, except when they don't.

I have no idea how much you paid but when you booked the flight, you should have received a contract from them. It's highly unlikely you'll get replacement accommodation, costing the airline more money than the flight you paid for.

To be fair, most folk know how 💩 Ryanair are.

You can't change names in a thread.

Yup. I agree. My point was that Ryanair do the bare minmum.

HopingForSomeSunshineSoon · 23/02/2025 08:45

Why are OP and Glitter acting as though the airline has done this on purpose?? Confused

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 23/02/2025 08:45

You can’t do name change fails anymore. Number won’t let you. You have to use the same username throughout a thread.

I still think clandestine meet-up. One of you reading a newspaper the other wearing a red carnation.

You get paid the compensation at a fixed rate, whatever the cost of the holiday. DH and I made money on a trip to Mallorca once!

Glittertwins · 23/02/2025 08:46

We've actually found eachother!!!
And we aren't seeking more money, we all just want to get home with the service contract adhered to.

I'd say frustration probably, and perhaps some naivety. Airlines don't do this on purpose, however some seem better at customer care. If you buy a very cheap flight you can probably expect the bare minimum of care and to even have to push for anything you're legally entitled to.

Glittertwins · 23/02/2025 08:49

The whole flight is extremely pissed off, cold and tired. We have a load of kids with us. Put yourself in our shoes before you criticise

I'm sure it's annoying, but perspective is probably also needed. Hopefully you'll be home soon.
