Well this has never happened to me before - and I don't like it.

19:30 flight from Lanzarote ponced about for ages on the tarmac then threw us all off at 23:30. No offer of accommodation or any indication of time of replacement flight. At least a cafe is open (poor sod at the till) and we had a bottle of gin. You had this?

We could have gone if the ground crew hadn't gone to another plane that they didn't need to go to. The crew were willing but then went over their hours

whatwouldyoudoifisangoutofkey · 23/02/2025 07:35

@Glittertwins are you and the OP waiting for the same flight to depart?

Timeforatincture · 23/02/2025 07:35

Yes!

Yes

Oh ! Did you travel together ? More interesting if you didn't and this was a random meeting of MNetters. Brought together by a crisis.

Happened twice hilariously on same annual girls trip! If you are with a budget airline you are on your own whatever they may say. You need to make your own arrangements pay for yourself but keep receipts to reclaim costs later. It’s a right pain and feel for those who are traveling with young children or elderly under confident passengers, if you couldn’t use a phone to find accommodation/ rebook the flight you would be stuffed.

I have to say easyJet were excellent a few weeks ago when we had our flight cancelled during the storm. They emailed us, we rebooked for the next day, and our accommodation cost was refunded within a few days.

Glittertwins · 23/02/2025 07:52

No, we didn't travel together

Alondra · 23/02/2025 07:52

You haven't travelled much if this is the worst you can come up with from UK cheap flights to EU destinations.

And?

Are you always this superior?

No. Just giving a reality check.

MelainesLaugh · 23/02/2025 07:55

Hope the two who are waiting for the flight have drowned their sorrows together!

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 23/02/2025 07:58

I'm kind of invested in knowing if the 2 posters have now met irl. Did you see someone posting on mn and just side up to them? Eye up the passengers and guess which one meets the MN demographic? (whatever that is).... Enquiring minds and all that.

Timeforatincture · 23/02/2025 07:59

I haven't spotted @Glittertwins yet. Is there a special signal?

CollaterlieSistersSister · 23/02/2025 08:01

I know the reality of this is bloody awful, but there’s a film in this.

Brought together by BA and MN, @Timeforatincture and @Glittertwins form a lasting relationship. Or go on a murder spree or something. Needs work.

Timeforatincture · 23/02/2025 08:07

Given my state of mind at present murder spree seems more plausible.

The special signal is: Jump up on an airport chair and start yelling and waving your arms, shouting, " @Glittertwins ! Here I am! Come out, come out, wherever you are!" Don't worry, we will start a GoFu@%Me for your bail!

Me too! I really feel for them both too. Not a great way to end their holiday but if they met IRL would make for an interesting story

ChocolateTruffleAssortment · 23/02/2025 08:20

at Least you can play spot the Mumsnetter!

OdeToBarney · 23/02/2025 08:21

We had similar flying BA out of Lanzarote a few years ago. We did eventually take off after a few hours, but we then had to stop on Fuertaventura for fuel (because they'd loaded minimal fuel for the same reason). When they eventually served the food, they refused to serve the starter (mozzarella salad) because it had been hanging around for too long. I was starving and furious 🤣 truly hangry that day! I think we got home about 6 hours later than planned.

Have they given any further updates yet?

It wasn't cheap and we don't usually fly.

I'm at the desk now giving them both barrels on last nights staff attitudes

LollipopViolet · 23/02/2025 08:25

Oh what a nightmare for you both, and a rubbish end to your holidays!

No advice, but your stories have now convinced me to book an extra day off work at the end of my upcoming holiday - we're due to fly home at 12.40 but, just in case...!

Its not the staffs fault surely, they were probably told nothing as well.

Hope you both get home soon

Glittertwins · 23/02/2025 08:27

Check is now 13:40, desks 16-18. New flight time 15:20.
Im getting more food vouchers!

Glittertwins · 23/02/2025 08:28

It was their attitude that sucked which is what the complaint is about.
