What's one thing you've seen in other countries that you wish we had here?

In my home country, we have riders on motorbikes whose job it is to transport things from one place to another.
For example, if you left your charger at your mums, you could just request one of those and they would bring it straight to you.
Mind you in that country taxis are a lot cheaper than they are over here, so even if we had something like this here it would probably be too expensive and not worth it.

A visible police service.

Peclet · 22/02/2025 12:05

a warm reliable summer.

Ilovelowry · 22/02/2025 12:05

Used to live in Ireland. The pharmacist held the repeat prescription, so if I needed new inhalers, instead of planning a week in advance of needing my repeat processing, I'd walk into the pharmacist, ask for my inhalers, pay and leave.

A million times easier.

A lemon tree in the garden.

fridaynight1 · 22/02/2025 12:06

A border force.

SharpWriter · 22/02/2025 12:06

In Belgium they have those little green lights that show you where there are spaces in a multi storey car park (and red lights when the spaces are taken). Saves you driving round and round looking for a space. Maybe they have them in the UK but I've never seen them.

The ability to go for a run, or walk around safely at 3 am like I can when I go to the UAE.

Yes absolutely this.

LemonPorkLasagna · 22/02/2025 12:07

I can't remember which country I've seen them in, might have been Spain or Portugal but fruit trees lining the roads.

You get hungry on your commute to work? Just pluck an orange from a tree, or an apple or a pear.

Abra1t · 22/02/2025 12:08

Less litter.

BigDahliaFan · 22/02/2025 12:09

In japan the vending machines on station platforms sell cans of hot tea, chocolate , coffee and soup. Perfect on a cold morning!

This is possible, though I'm unsure if it is the case for all conditions/medication.

RabbitsRock · 22/02/2025 12:10

Abra1t was just about to say the same. Wouldn’t it be lovely to have an amazingly clean country like Switzerland for example?

They have those in Ireland too!

Bum showers
Veg and fruit per weight as standard rather than pack and same for bakery items as standard

dervalle · 22/02/2025 12:11

Communal bins
Good cheap reliable and safe public transport
Discreetly visible police presence even in smaller towns.

LaceWingMother · 22/02/2025 12:12

Clean streets and roadsides. The UK is filthy and it's very depressing.

Fewer fast food places. It's seems the default option is so many situations in this country.

Slower pace of life; more appreciation for the surroundings and living 'in the moment'. Brits are a hassled, moany bunch.

I do consider myself incredibly fortunate to be British and live here compared to many, many places though. This sentiment is not to confused with patriotic nonsense though!

Eight8eight · 22/02/2025 12:12

Solar panels above car parks, like in France and the Netherlands.

We have these in the UK! Heathrow airport and westfield shopping centre are two that come to mind.

I have that here in the UK. Speak to your GP about this. My pharmacist holds a 12 month pre authorisation from my GP. I just go to the pharmacy when I’ve run out of my medication and they give me more. Maybe inhalers are different but it’s worth asking.

braaaiiins · 22/02/2025 12:13

Safe cycling infrastructure and shutters on the outside of windows.

BobbyBiscuits · 22/02/2025 12:14

Nice trains that are comfortable, reasonably priced and run efficiently.

Ah I don't think it would work as my GP is also a dispensing pharmacy so they take a week to process it all.

But if we move surgeries I will bear it in mind!

We still have motorcycle couriers here, don’t we?

madnessitellyou · 22/02/2025 12:17

A central vacuum system. My uncle has one. Plug the hose into the point in the wall and off you go. All the crap collected in a massive cylinder in the basement.

On that, proper storage in houses.

Better weather. Not just endless shades of drizzly grey no matter the month.

No reverse snobbery.

Public transport that is a viable, affordable alternative to the car. I think it might exist in some parts of the UK but where I am (NW suburb, nothing remotely rural about it) it’s 2 hours to get to work on public transport or 20 minutes in the car. A six mile journey. 4 hours a day or 40 minutes a day.
