Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone doing today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa, in my kitchen spot, after feeding the dickheads kittens. Boy kitten's now perched on the microwave, and girl's playing with something in the living room.

We haven't got much planned for today. I have peg people to finish varnishing for work and another set to try and finish, and we were going to have an hour or two making some bracelets to trade/give away at Gracie Abrams Leeds gig.

Other than that, cleaning up the plant the kittens have tipped over, and collecting a parcel, today will be a very moochy & slow day.

Tea will probably be a takeaway, with a glass or two of wine for me. Then I'll get comfy with my book for a couple of hours while dd1 will probably watch another film - she watched The Craft last night - and dd2 will probably carry on with some prep for an exam on Friday.

What about all of you? 🙂

@babbi I was definitely at less than my best this morning! Glad I amused you though 😊.

Just got back from another trip to the second hand craft shop where I picked up yet more yarn (that I really don't need). I also picked up some stuffing - not the paxo kind. I posted recently about my sister being referred to the cancer two week wait list. It has been confirmed that she does have breast cancer and will be going in for surgery next Friday. Luckily it was picked up much earlier than mine, so the surgery is much less extensive. Anyway - I'm going to make her an under arm pillow this afternoon. I've collected together a few things to make her feel more comfortable, loved and cared for, and they will be in the post first thing on Monday. She did the same for me - I didn't use a lot of the things she gave me and I'm not sure if she would like them, but this is just a little package of the kind of things I found most comforting/helpful.

I didn't mean for this to be another essay! I never know when to stop.

Thank you to the well wishers who hoped we feel better soon and all the best to your sister @DilemmaDelilah Flowers

Not much
Dh is away for work and the dcs are away at uni so I have the whole house to myself
Pure bliss

Good afternoon @lucysmam et al, better somewhat late than never I guess.
How exciting @MrsAvocet , I hope yours is DD has a wonderful wedding day .
@Seagullsandsausagerolls that sounds terrifying, I hope yours is recovering well now?
Well I was out on a very muddy dog walk by 7.30 this morning, we slithered through the woods, down into the bottom where the dog decided that was far enough so a mile long crawl back uphill through the mud home 🤷🏼‍♀️We did see a muntjac at very close quarters on the footpath, it was less than 10 feet away- I don’t know who out of the three of us was most startled!
I spent an hour tidying the bedroom and then finished cutting up the 3lb of dehydrated liver for dog treats before cleaning the kitchen.I have done two loads of washing, cooked dinner and I’m trying to summon up the oomph to do some drawing.
The sun’s actually come out but it’s a cold wind; it certainly doesn’t feel like 10° out there, even in the sun.
The frogs have returned to the pond, they’re late this year, it’s usually just before Valentines Day, I hope we don’t get a hard frost as soon as the frogspawn arrives, it’s failed for the past three years.

Dd went to watch Luvcat apparently @lucysmam. I’ve never heard of them but apparently it was amazing.

Natsku · 22/02/2025 15:55

We went to a 'whole town outside day' organised by our town council or whatever. DS got a free cross country skiing lesson, then did some ice skating, then some sledging (though one trip down the very slippery hill was enough for him as he almost crashed and didn't want to go again).
DD refused to go and has been in bed all day, but she was ill all week so I'll let it go.

I just did a bit of tidying up as my brother is coming to visit at the end of next week but I don't have any time during the week for cleaning. In a moment I'll make dinner, then watch a bit of Simpsons with DS and once he's in bed I'll see if DD wants to watch anything together.

OH is in the basement preparing harmonica lessons for my brother when he gets here. I hope my brother realises what he got himself into when he said he wanted to be taught Grin

Woke up this morning but could not find the car keys. Inflated a 1970's orange bouncy Space Hopper and went into our local market town on that instead. Just about to enter the butchers, when a black and white mid-sized dog (wearing a spotted neckerchief) came rushing out carrying a string of sausages in its mouth. The butcher came running out of the shop next, but as fast as he could run while puffing and panting, the dog was gaining more ground and was last seen disappearing across a footpath into some local fields.

I had to get a taxi to take me home, as my Space Hopper sustained a small puncture on the way in, and the boy in the cycle repair shop says they stopped doing bike stuff last Tuesday and now only sell vapes.

Sheknowsaboutme · 22/02/2025 16:42

Such a sunny day! Wend food shopping, bit of tidying up and 90mins in the gym.

wine, pizza and Netflix this evening

weegiemum · 22/02/2025 17:06

Slept till lunchtime , I've had a horrible cough and am still catching up on sleep.

Nice relaxing afternoon, dh has done the laundry, and we watched the Ireland-Wales rugby (happy dh as he's Irish) and now watching the Scotland-England match (I'm Scottish!).

Rather than going to Tesco we did a just eat grocery order for crisps and wine, and don't plan to go anywhere today! All dc are grown up now, dd2 popped home for clothes for work tomorrow, but has gone off to a bridesmaid dress fitting and staying at her boyfriend's tonight, ds is at work as is dd1 (who has her own place).

Dog is sleeping with his head on my knee!

🤣This has made my morning.

Do you work in a nursery @lucysmam I'm a childminder, I love making peg people! Haven't made any for a while though, I'm feeling itchy for a new project...

babbi · 23/02/2025 08:42

@DilemmaDelilah
I am so sorry to hear the news about your sister .
Wishing her the very best in her treatment journey and also to yourself as you support her and care for your own health .
Take care , you sound so lovely and caring , you’re blessed to have each other .

PurpleChrayn · 23/02/2025 09:09

Just having breakfast now - slept late!

A man is coming at 10:30 to look at the loft - hopefully having some government funded insulation put in to make the house more energy efficient.

Then DH is taking the children out for a couple of hours so I can work on novel rewrites (deadline from publisher coming up!)

Then for the rest of the day we will just chill and do chores.

MedusaAndHerFavourites · 23/02/2025 09:29

Good morning!

DD's are out doing sport things, so I've been very self indulgent and have made myself breakfast in bed. Toasted sourdough with butter and honey and two cups of tea (so that I don't have to go back downstairs). Have read the paper.

Will potter about this afternoon. Had said that we'd meet friends for a drink later, but I'm hoping it doesn't happen as I'd rather have a cosy evening with DH.

onetwothreefourfive11 · 23/02/2025 09:30

Morning!

I'm Tim Hortons for breakfast with my toddler

Walked here, he couldn't wait to be outside

garlicyogurt · 23/02/2025 09:33

Going to bed soon as I’ve been up all night, having cheese on toast with Hendersons for breakfast/dinner first though
