How do you listen to music?

I literally just type songs into YouTube or switch on the radio at home. But if I'm on a plane or in the car, it's no good so I don't bother.

I'm literally a dinosaur and would still use a walkman if I had my tapes. I don't know anything about Spotify etc or iTunes if that's still a thing.

How do you listen to music whilst out and about... and how much does it cost?!

Through Amazon music

BogRollBOGOF · 21/02/2025 19:56

Radio, BBC Sounds, phone MP3s, CDs, even, occasionally cassettes.

If I'm in the mood for a complete album, playing a CD wins still. There's a little bit of tactile ceremony to it.

Boope · 21/02/2025 19:58

I'm 66 and I pay for Spotify premium and the whole family use it.
I could probably use Prime music but it's not quite as good.
I've long since got rid of CDs and downloads but I did give DS2 my vinyls

Spotify premium family account, £19.99 a month but 6 of us use it multiple times a day.

Redglitter · 21/02/2025 20:02

If I'm in the car it's the radio
In the house or out in the garden Spotify

sunshineandshowers40 · 21/02/2025 20:03

Amazon music family package. Around £20 a month but 4 out of 5 of us use it daily.

LieutenantJumboJr · 21/02/2025 20:04

Apple Music on my phone

mugglewump · 21/02/2025 20:07

Spotify all the way.

LostGhost · 21/02/2025 20:07

We're Spotify users and use it pretty much constantly. I had over 200k listening minutes last year.

I pay £14.99 for the Duo plan which allows us to download playlists so we can listen offline

LittleRedRidingHoody · 21/02/2025 20:08

Apple Music £10.99 a month for all the music I could ever want on my phone, iPad and laptop. I can download it too for the underground.

I generally have earphones in whilst out and about on my own/travelling, phone connected to the car so listen to what I want in there too. Will connect to a speaker/TV at home if we're in the mood for a dance party. Listen with chunky over ear headphones whilst working. Definitely feel like I get my moneys worth 😂

Ankhmo · 21/02/2025 20:08

Mp3s on my phone with earphones

You can download YouTube as mp3s on some sites. So I have a load of songs.

I used to have a dedicated MP3 player. That might be an option OP.
If you have a pc with a cd player, pop your CDs in, copy them to your MP3 player, done.

SwanOfThoseThings · 21/02/2025 20:08

Radio or CD mostly, occasionally YouTube or vinyl.

Boope · 21/02/2025 21:39

Just realised you might not know how to use Spotify.
Download the app.
I think you can listen free with ads but I pay.
You can make playlists or just listen to an artist.
Literally anything you like.
I make a new playlist every few months including old stuff and new ( I get recommendations from DS2(27). I listen to it on repeat then start a new one.
I always set it to play in random order.

Currently listening to a blues playlist with old and new.
You can also listen to podcasts on there.

Costs me about £18 a month but 4 adults use it. DC clock up 100k hours a year.

CatteryCatss · 21/02/2025 21:45

Through Spotify using my AirPods. My DP and I have a dual account, which works out cheaper than having individual accounts.

CatteryCatss · 21/02/2025 21:51

I forgot to say, it costs us £16.99 per month (for both of us)

Snowmanscarf · 21/02/2025 21:54

Usually Radio 6 at home then my playlists on Spotify when I’m out walking or in the car. We have premium as a family for about £20 a month.

Spotify. If you don't mind adverts, you can listen to it for free. We have a family subscription.

ChristmasPudd1990 · 21/02/2025 22:12

Vinyl, various Google displays at home,YouTube music when listening through my phone on earbuds.

HowardTJMoon · 21/02/2025 22:34

Mostly Spotify Premium, sometimes YouTube.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 21/02/2025 23:19

Spotify
Bbc sounds for radio 1 or a particular music show or playlist

Both mandatory on my phone, couldn't be without them

Listening to the rap show on 1xtra now - at 33 and a mum, I dont think I'm the target audience 🤭

neilyoungismyhero · 21/02/2025 23:32

I listen to Spotify for music and podcasts on my phone or tv or Alexa. Love it. I subscribe so no adverts.

BlackusCattus · 21/02/2025 23:39

Another Spotify Family user - 6 of us use it daily although I get mocked for my annual summary thing.

ICanTellYouMissMe · 21/02/2025 23:41

Spotify for, I'm not kidding, almost every minute I'm awake.
