I didn’t scream😂 But the queue was incredibly long so while waiting I brought up the famous MN thread and I’d forgotten how funny it was. I was almost crying with laughter as I read it. DP was a bit WTF😭

Rome is fabulous btw.

Poor woman. Won’t anyone let that thread die?

It’s a Classic so by definition it’s being preserved for posterity. OP posted on an anonymous forum 7 years ago so I think she’s ok😂

Op does it matter re authentic op, a thread set in beauty about a hilarious episode, unfortunately the burning desire to understand the op of funny threads is what's killed them off there used to be loads more.

I had /have a dreadful on going issue I've posted about so many times sometimes from a dark place and sometimes in a humour way to get light relief. The more humerous threads have attracted troll hunters who then even raised old threads that weren't mine and it got nasty.
Thankfully some few and far between mn did get the funny side and lifted my spirits which after all, is the raising detre of mn??

I have visited the Sistine Chapel. You are meant to keep quiet and no photos. Bloody Japanese tourists yapping away and taking photos.

On same holiday, visited the Uffizi Gallery in Florence and Japanese tourists again ruined it. One was using a laser pointer on at a 16thC painting. I was surprised that he wasn't thrown out for that.

PuttingouttheFirewithGasoline · 21/02/2025 09:53

@Cosyvibes

Because they get jumped on by some weird dementors who have made a stand against fun and laughter.

After about 3 hours traipsing around the building to get to the Sistine chapel, I wanted to bloody scream. Beautiful, but come on. Up and down wooden stairs, through different rooms, it went on and on, and on. I just wanted to escape after a while but there was no route out, just plodding forward with the promise of the chapel at the end 😂

That's how we felt when we visited the Louvre 2 years back. We had decided that seeing the Mona Lisa took priority and anything else would be a bonus. We stood in line to get into the Louvre for an hour. Got lost to it. Saw the enormous queue to get into the room, I'd given up at that point and DH and the DCs stood in line for another hour, then we tried to get out again without any success at all because we were following arrows and were directed all around and through the underground shopping precinct before finding a cafe and collapsing in some distress and exhaustion. I always thought after that we should get tshirts saying #ISurvivedTheLouvre

Anewdawnanewname · 21/02/2025 10:20

lol I’ve never read that thread before, but I’m going to now!
I found the Sistine Chapel underwhelming. We didn’t actually have to queue to get in, and so I just walked through it rather than standing and looking around. I think we’d walked through so many rooms to get to it, that u was bored by the time I got there. It wasn’t until we were in the gift shop and I saw postcards of the Creation and the hands touching, that I realised I’d totally missed seeing that.

Cosyvibes · 21/02/2025 10:36

@PuttingouttheFirewithGasoline true. The fun sponges have taken over.

I was astonished you could meet The Pope. I didn't but the fact you and I could buy a ticket and meet him was startling to me. He is a world leader so you would think access would be limited.

I don't think Jesus sold tickets to access his sermons, etc.
Typical church, make money by fleecing the faithful.

does the ticket include a selfie with the Pope? Asking for a friend...

This is one of the few online spaces women have. Stop infantilising us by telling us you think we are ok.

Misogyny at his finest.

I was more impressed by the long room with all the beautifully painted maps TBH.

I agree it’s like a holy Ikea!
I love Rome, but I’ll never waste another minute in the Sistine chapel. Tbh someone screaming and wailing would have made it much more enjoyable. Especially with an exasperated husband flouncing off like Hugh Laurie in Sense and Sensibility.

OP actually said she thinks 'she's OK' referring to the author of the Michelangelo thread as being ok. No 'reclaiming' of women's spaces, no attempt to 'own' your words, no 'infantilising' that I could see....

Are you always so chippy with random strangers about a clearly lighthearted subject?

This genuinely made me laugh out loud, thanks for cheering up a shitty day 😂
