I didn’t scream😂 But the queue was incredibly long so while waiting I brought up the famous MN thread and I’d forgotten how funny it was. I was almost crying with laughter as I read it. DP was a bit WTF😭

Rome is fabulous btw.

This comment made me feel old 🤣🤣🤣

Going to re-read, I could do with a laugh! Thanks to PP who linked it.

I wonder if original OP is still around ? 🤣

😭 gonna check it out now, need something to cheer me up after eastenders

Did you not even let out a little wail?

Not even a whimper. As a PP mentions, this obviously means I have no soul🤣

Blarn · 20/02/2025 20:13

I forgot it was screaming at the Michaelangelo, not just the Sistine chapel! Loved that thread!

Davros · 20/02/2025 20:15

@Eastie77Returns it was the same at Pompeii and the Coliseum last time u was at both those places

Covidwoes · 20/02/2025 20:17

Thanks so much for bringing attention to that thread again. Cracking up. 😂😂 Did you not even let out a slight squeak OP? 🤣

Eastie77Returns · 20/02/2025 20:19

We were warned about the Coliseum but didn’t come across a single tout (we booked tickets online weeks ago and just rocked up at our pre booked time).

@Blarn I also forgot the OP screamed at Michaelangelo. Every time I try to envisage how that actually went down I just start laughing 🤣🤣

It annoyed me no end the ridiculously long route you have to take to get to the Sistine Chapel, I didn't want to see any of that other stuff, I know, I know, I'm a heathen Grin

soupyspoon · 20/02/2025 20:23

I was disappointed if Im honest, I thought it looked a bit cartoonish.

piscofrisco · 20/02/2025 20:25

The pontiff is currently in hospital with pneumonia I think so no meeting him today. But still plenty of paintings to snap and fart at!

Pedallleur · 20/02/2025 19:23

I was astonished you could meet The Pope. I didn't but the fact you and I could buy a ticket and meet him was startling to me. He is a world leader so you would think access would be limited.

You will not be meeting Pope Francis this week, as he is ill in hospital.

Cardio101 · 20/02/2025 20:30

Not even a whimper? 😂

I go to Rome Saturday! Any tips?

You have a treat in store 😂. All time classic.

Are you going with children? One thing that has surprised me is that the restaurants here do not have kids menus. It hasn’t been a problem for us, our DC have been raised on Italian food and have been happy with the ‘adult’ offerings. Plus Italy is in general otherwise very accommodating when it comes to children. But something to bear in mind if you have picky eaters.

Street names are not easy to find. A lot are etched into buildings and not very clear or do not appear visible at all!

This is a fabulous city and you will have a great time.

Comfortable shoes needed. Lots of queuing.

And scant toilet facilities.

One of the best places Ive ever been however.

Eastie77Returns · 20/02/2025 20:45

…oh and service in busy restaurants can be variable. We were in a popular pizza restaurant this evening and DP had to ask 4 times for the bill😂

I've read the op

7 YEARS.......why were we not somewhere else - it seems like yesterday - she/he was a fruit!

Mynewnameis · 20/02/2025 20:47

Omg I've never read that thread before and I've been on here forever, well 2010. Ish

NC28 · 20/02/2025 20:49

Haha I just reread that thread.

I feel her silent weeping in the Louvre doesn’t get the attention it deserves.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/02/2025 20:51

I was completely underwhelmed by it. But by the time I'd trekked round the miles of corridors in the Vatican museum, I was so tired I didn't care about anything other than sitting down.

Cosyvibes · 20/02/2025 20:52

Bloody hell 7 years!!

It's sad those sort of threads are no longer a thing on mn anymore. There used to be threads you could hardly breathe laughing at.

Hope you are having a fab time op

My best friend gets tickets to meet the pope for all his friends if they want them. But there is so much to see in Rome, so I don't think I'll bother going to an Audience.

What you can buy a 'meet and greet' with the Pope?

After about 3 hours traipsing around the building to get to the Sistine chapel, I wanted to bloody scream. Beautiful, but come on. Up and down wooden stairs, through different rooms, it went on and on, and on. I just wanted to escape after a while but there was no route out, just plodding forward with the promise of the chapel at the end 😂

Like an ecclesiastical IKEA!
